Scott Bain had little chance with either Newco goal yesterday, but made several flawless interventions in in the game: diving out from his goal to hold a cross in the first half, saving when the hopeless Morelos was clean through on him, grasping a free kick just under his crossbar and punching the ball out of play.
His game will most be remembered for the added time save from Windass before he collected the ball off the post when Morelos showed all the composure of Ibrox strikers before him, like Sebo and van Vossen.
Jozo Simunovic scarcely broke sweat before his 57th minute red card. There could have been an earlier red for a two footed lunge on Tom Rogic, and I don’t believe there was intent behind Jozo’s action, but it was a red card.
‘What happened to Dedryck?’ remains an open question. The Belgian international picked himself up from a bomb scare first season to become an integral part of the Invincibles, but after gifting possession for the opening Newco goal, and being turned by Morelos at the second, he will have been the most relieved man in Glasgow at full time yesterday.
Tom Rogic’s goal was incredible, not only the quality of the 27-yard strike, but the way he created the opening for himself. No one else in the Scottish game could have scored that goal. Some players hide when they are a goal down in a hostile environment, Tom stepped up when we needed it.
Moussa Dembele scored one, got an assist and led the line well. His goal exposed some inept defending. A Scott Bain pass to Scott Brown allowed the captain to launch a long ball with his first touch, Moussa controlled with his head before lobbing the keeper.
This goal came after a period of intense Celtic pressure on the Newco goal, which forced eight corners but didn’t create the breakthrough. When Newco pressed forward they lost concentration.
Like Rogic, Moussa is a player who comes alive on big stage.
With 25% of the game remaining, the scores level and being a man down, Brendan Rodgers swapped a midfielder for a striker. Without a right back on the park, I didn’t expect Forrest to be sacrificed, but it was a ballsy, match winning, play.
Odsonne Eduard didn’t hang around. 100 seconds after taking to the field, he scored what proved to be the winner. Think back for a moment to the occasions Brendan played Odsonne with Moussa and Leigh Griffiths on the bench. It was clear Odsonne was still learning his craft, but without those development opportunities he would not have been yesterday’s match winner.
The final drama was provided by Windass’ shot, Bain’s save and that miss from Morelos. The ball sat perfectly for the striker four yards out, but as we so often see from one footed players, what was an easy tap-in with his left foot, bounced off the outside of his right boot in the wrong direction.
All he needed to do was hold his left foot against the ball to equalise. How do players get to that level so reluctant to use their weaker foot?
Twice coming from behind, then scoring a winner with 10 men, is a memorable way to win any game. At Ibrox, it was delicious. Newco collapsed like a pack of cards, at home, with a man advantage. They continue to find innovative ways to traumatise themselves.

Thom, have’nt looked at Jimmy’s goal recently, but seem to remember him being on the ball out on the right wing then driving across the pitch, before shooting with his left foot, whereas Tom drove forward at an angle attacking the back post. Both great goals to score at ol Ayebroke it has to be said.
Boyata’s early mistake leading to the goal had an impact on his psyche .
On the second goal he is clearly fouled by Morelos the misser who dunts him from behind stopping him blocking the cross.
In the second half he had one silly moment but did well when we went down to ten.Unfortunately centre half is an unforgiving position so it will take a long time for support to trust him.
Young Hendry was very good when he appeared.
Huns one tactic is to play ball behind full backs and force defenses to turn.
This tactic failed when Hendry came on and Ajer switched to centre.Murphy was then forced inside and showed zero.Candeias plays early crosses so being tight on him means he turns and passes backwards.
One thing i have said for a few seasons is we lack a defensive leader. He would be the guy who directs the others .Simply sliding the central defender on the side they played long balls to would have nullified that tactic but no one choose to delegate responsibility.
Our priority in summer should be signing a conductor for the defense or training one of our own guys for the role.

Them’s yards, not metres.
Thanks but my point remains , the Hampden pitch whether it was in yards or metres was bigger than CP? Is that still the case or not do you know?

Someone mentioned earlier that Boyata was just making his return from an injury – is that an excuse? Hes fit to play.
It is worthwhile remembering also that Boyata got injured at Kilmarnock trying to recover possession after another of his own unforced errors!
I am only glad that BR is on the same page with regard to replacing him but lets get an uncompromising, settled CB pairing asap.

My friends in Celtic,
It was good to see the team celebrate with the fans at the end. The bond is there.
More importantly, did our fans encouragement help our players achieve the victory we all sooooooooo desired. Without their backing the hostile atmosphere would have been sooooooooo much worse.
I think the answer is yes and subsequently we should praise the fans who paid the pricy sum of £49, not denigrate them.

Hebcelt. happy birthday.ktf.
Has anyone handed in a “title race” which apparently went missing in Glasgow yesterday ?
If any one finds it, could they please return it to where it was last seen.
2011.
;-)
Celtic Mac,
Yes, Jimmy gathered the ball from a throw in and kept going across the field.
Full Back, Davy Provan tracked him all the way over, as his manager had told him, if Jinky moves infield, not to tackle him, because he always turns out to the wing.
On this occasion,he didn’t.
I thought Tom’s goal mirrored some aspects of his, apart from the throw in.
Fit to play ?
Match sharpness ?
Who gives a stuff we won :-)
THOMTHETHIM FOR OSCAR OK. yes i was there, if memory serves me, the pitch was badly cut up that day.hh.

Most posts reflect the happiness which abounds after a very good result. That happiness seems to be taking a poor second place to anger in your mind.
I didn`t see the game so I don`t know how Boyata played but, even if he was terrible for every minute of the game,I think I would ignore it for the time being and celebrate with my fellow Tims on CQN and elsewhere.

Boyata had a couple of stand out errors but 2-3 away from home will do me every time, Brendan could have subbed him if he was that bad, he didn’t, so I will go with Brendan’s opinion
Every time I re-watch Moussa’s goal I cannot but laugh at the really weird way in which Alves chases (?) after him – it is comedy gold.
I think we have ebt mccann to thank for Bain – fell out with him at dund.

GERRYFAETHEBRIG, gerry anytime we beat them i enjoy, woke up this morning with an almighty hangover but it was worth it.hh.

Pretty much all the stadiums for international matches have the FIFA “recommended” pitch size of 105 x 68 metres. There’s a maximum and minimum either side of the recommended dmensions. UEFA use the same standard, and it’s also applied in the SPFL. It’s generally only older venues that have smaller surfaces now, where there is a space constraint – Tynecastle, for example. The pitches at both Celtic Park and Hampden have been changed to suit the recommendation in the last 10 years or so, with Celtic Park shorter than previously, and Hampden narrower.
I had a chuckle when the BT co-commentator of the night during the Celtic-Man City tie said City would be much more at home playing on the wider pitch at the Etihad – it’s precisely the same size as Celtic Park, as most of the the top stadiums are now.
Happy birthday Hebcelt.
Hope it is even better than yesterday.
Watch Brendan calmly tell Broonie what he wanted when Simo was sent off. Cool as a cucumber. Broonie didn’t need told twice. The relationship between manager and captain is impressive. The cool heads in the heat of battle even more so.
In the other dugout the caretaker manager giving the fans the ‘make some noise’ gesture and shouting ‘come on’ to his team.
Two little but significant moments in the game.
Happy birthday Hebcelt
One of life good ghuys!

Between reading P67’s thoughts on how Morelos missed that sitter …. and RobertTressell’s post at 5:20, I dont know how you guys pick up these little details ….
I am either going to have to stop watching games on my very small ipad screen ….
or I’m actually going to have to learn something about this game!
:)

I have it on good authority that Brendan said to Broonie be careful as Collum was their best player and trying hard to influence result.
Broonie supposedly replied nae bother boss we will just score then play game out to it’s natural conclusion .
Brogan ~ TnT
I got the pitch size info, which is meters not yards from the official club sites.
Brogan, I have no idea about Killie, but for years I have heard that the hampden pitch is huge when in fact it’s the same as the other two mentioned, yet nobody questions it and just accepts that it is.
I also recall reading years ago the both Celtic and the huns wanted their pitch the same as hampden as when they got to a final they would be Ok with the pitch size.

mncelt – what are the blue things thrown at rogic when he scored the screamer? don’t look like cups of pop
From the slippery tongue of BFDJ.
Johnstone told Sky Sports: “I think he is still favourite to get the job no matter what happens between now and the end of the season.
“If you said to me that Rangers would be competing with Celtic in the last third of the season and in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, I think I would have bit your hand off for that.”
Guess his idea of competing is different to most.
