Newco goes into full regressive mode

782

Football clubs find it difficult to maintain a positive brand image that not only helps its commercial imperative, but binds fans ever-closer and attracts new supporters.  There is always some idiot doing something idiotic that neither the club, nor the support as a whole, would even remotely tolerate.

As a consequence, fans across the country sigh at news reports when someone punches a horse, throws a bottle or generally behaves in a manner that defies the struggles their genetic make-up went through to be here today.  Darwin suggested it should not be this way, but here we are.

When a club’s name is associated with some random act of idiocy, a well-known script is followed.  Suspend the culprit and hope it is glossed-over by many, if not, publicly state disapproval while giving the obligatory “tiny minority” sop to the rest of the support, to let them know you have their back, whether it is a tiny minority or not, or even a minority.

Employee-transgressors are almost universally and immediately sacked.  The chef who got drunk and wrote someone on social media that would never be said sober, has supreme-d his last chicken at the club restaurant.

This is harsh, but them’s the rules.  Clubs want to attract everyone in the family, hospitality business and commercial partner spheres.  Negative publicity, however tenuous, has to be curated through the ‘What would Walt (Disney) Do?’ prism.

So when a club diverges from this path, you’re left wondering why?  Why would a club appoint a DUP councillor and Orangeman, inevitably with all of the baggage that world brings, as their public relations manager?

Today’s revelation in the Daily Record, that Newco’s new PR man, David Graham, referring to Celtic Park as “the piggery”, a few days after his “No surrender” video emerged, will surprise no one.  Do not blame a duck for quaking, material like this is inevitably going to seep out.

But why do Newco want to be represented like this?  Why challenge the modern sports business orthodoxy of appealing to families, high-value corporate spend and big ticket commercial deals?  There is a constituency that will always stay loyal to those with values they share, irrespective of football success or general competency in any other area.

They are circling the wagons ahead of a ‘business interruption event’, either that, or they are the stupidest of stupid people who ever made it through 250k years of largely progressive genetic selection.  No one sailing home on HMS Beagle could predict such a regressive wonder as this lot.

Wash your hands, isolate the vulnerable. If you are vulnerable and need food, shop at quiet times and do not touch your face until you wash your hands at home.  Most of us will get through this, but all of us need to act for those who might not.

  1. Good evening from the isolation zone.

I stood at the door today looking out at the sunshine.

Spent an inordinate time on the phone to the grocery delivery company.

Ordered originally promised last Sunday still not filled.

Their application and processes are poor and unable to absorb the current volumes.

Anyway the purpose of this post is to bring your attention to the following article.

It’s long and well reasoned. It is worth reading or even scanning for highlights.

It will provide reasons to support your point of view. No matter what you think.

    Read it.

  5. According to a BBC model from a link posted earlier

In Scotland, Celtic’s 13-point advantage over Rangers means they have a 98.87% chance of winning the Premiership, although the latter will cling to that 1.13% until the bitter end.

    BITTER, how appropriate.

Big Jimmy-I honestly hope you’re in good health.

You’re verbal gymnastics when people on here want to help you has me thinking 😉

    Stay safe and healthy 💚

    …………………….

Cheers mate, in all honesty my health is not good at the moment ( More on that shortly in another Post).

Ive self isolated for the last few days, and as I dont drink in the hoose, Im not tempted to buy a carry out for beer etc.

Ive just seen the story of a Pub in Greenock called “Cheers”, and yesterday the Polis were called to this Pub as it had remained open, and was full of punters.

For any Publican to do that and stay open…you are simply inviting trouble IMHO.

The pub will either be quiet with folk not going out…or once word gets around that your pub is still open, it will be packed….and no doubt for several reasons there will be punch ups…INMO ?

I hope you and yours are all healthy and well.

  8. Good morning all from a beautiful sunny but cold Garngad

I think if we go into lockdown we have a chance of finishing the season this year but if we do not, I cannot see any football being played this year.

    LOKDOWN LOCKDOWN LOCKDOWN

That’s only my opinion of course.

There has a president been set with Brora Rankers I hope our custodians point that out.

  9. HELP !

Does anyone know of any Organisation that will look after someones Pet Cat, should that person be back in hospital ?

Ideally, I may need someone to visit my home and feed my cat, and clean the litter tray every two days at least…Once a day would be ideal. I can pay expenses etc.

My Blood Count has become low again as a Males should be around 120….mine is down to 106 and I am dizzy etc every day.

In December 2019 my Blood Count was only “52”….and I was rushed again to hospital at that time….I am very worried about my cat ( Rocky Bhoy), as my mate who fed him every day is not available due to Corona and his Pub being closed, as he lives some distance away.

    Thanks.

Wasn’t able to read that article as it’s been pulled for spreading misinformation. I take it was essentially saying we have nothing to worry about and the coronavirus is all a big hoax like Trump was saying not long ago? Or something along those lines?

Whether you believe it or not it sounds like you’re doing the right things. Sorry to hear about your problems with the grocery company.

  11. Amidst all of this, and as it gets inexorably worse – how fortunate are we to have

I’m grateful that Paul 67 has kept this place going.

Had a little look online for some reactions to that article. Written by a far right nutjob and utterly destroyed by actual scientists (the writer isn’t one and the article is full of easily identifiable inaccuracies). Glad I didn’t read it as it would have just made me angry.

  13. If a FISH goes into “Self Isolation”….does that make it a Single Fish ?

    ……

Ive looked Online and there are some Students etc who will visit someones home to feed your Cat etc…its starts at £8 a Visit.

I may need to hire one of those lovely female Students IF I end up back in hospital ?

Totally agree, and many of us have expressed our appreciation to Paul 67 over the last few days / weeks.

Never has the requirement for responsible social media been so great.

Hopefully with many of us having more time on our hands it will be an opportunity for past posters and lurkers to participate once again.( Where are you DD, the foxes are well and hope you are too )

Although diversity of topic is one of this blogs strengths, I do miss football and all things Celtic.

It was interesting listening to an idea been mooted about playing football behind closed doors. Testing all concerned, playing in a controlled environment and playing games televised every day. A morale booster they reckoned. Is this feasible? Travel concerns, isolation etc. ?

Was previously totally against games being played behind closed doors, however if and its a big I would now go for it.

    HH to all.

  15. Big Jimmy,

Stay safe and well big fella.

As many on here have said, just shout out if you need anything. At the moment : No problem just jumping into the car with pet food and hooman food and dropping it off where it suits.

PS : If you have any daughters, now is the time to marry them off. A father’s dream, only five guests. 😁

    Who would televise the games?

I don’t have sky/bt and know a lot of people who have cancelled subs because no football/ golf being played.

  17. PHILBHOY on 22ND MARCH 2020 8:43 AM

It’s funny, they never discussed that detail. Personally if it’s rolled out as a morale booster then it would need to be the non pay for view channels.

I also don’t think that any internet based viewing would be sensible for a variety of reasons.

One interesting point was made, that in the EPL the phrase ” Null and Void” would no longer be used.

    Well done Brora league champions.

  18. In England as I understand it. The private hospitals have effectively been brought into the NHS by utilising them at cost price.

The Scottish health service it totally within the control of the Scottish government and has been for many years. It’s up to them to arrange a similar arrangement. Nicola Sturgeon was the longest serving health secretary ever before becoming first minister. She is well aware of what needs to be done to do this.

  19. Good morning, friends and Happy Mpthers Day to any mothers reading this. A gorgeous looking morning here in ole EK – clear skied, bright sunshine, birds singing and very little other noise. Not warm but very pleasant.

    …………

Cheers mate for your very kind offer, but IF I need to go back into hospital in the forthcoming days/weeks, I really need someone to visit my home, using my Keys obviously and feed my cat and clean out his litter tray.

Once a day would be ideal, but I know thats asking a lot, so even if it was every Two Days…I would need to settle for that ?

Due to my being dizzy right now etc, I am VERY Worried that if I get another Blood Test very soon, they will put me back in hospital and I can not go if I dont have someone to feed my cat.

I struggled down one flight of stairs this morning to put rubbish out, all due to me losing blood and out of breath etc.

My mat who fed my cat during my Two spells in hospital last year, owns my local pub 20 yards away, so he was always able to pop in and feed my Bhoy each day using my keys obviously. But obviously his Pub is now closed and he lives some distance away so I cant really ask him to help me again.
