Newco goes into full regressive mode

782

Football clubs find it difficult to maintain a positive brand image that not only helps its commercial imperative, but binds fans ever-closer and attracts new supporters.  There is always some idiot doing something idiotic that neither the club, nor the support as a whole, would even remotely tolerate.

As a consequence, fans across the country sigh at news reports when someone punches a horse, throws a bottle or generally behaves in a manner that defies the struggles their genetic make-up went through to be here today.  Darwin suggested it should not be this way, but here we are.

When a club’s name is associated with some random act of idiocy, a well-known script is followed.  Suspend the culprit and hope it is glossed-over by many, if not, publicly state disapproval while giving the obligatory “tiny minority” sop to the rest of the support, to let them know you have their back, whether it is a tiny minority or not, or even a minority.

Employee-transgressors are almost universally and immediately sacked.  The chef who got drunk and wrote someone on social media that would never be said sober, has supreme-d his last chicken at the club restaurant.

This is harsh, but them’s the rules.  Clubs want to attract everyone in the family, hospitality business and commercial partner spheres.  Negative publicity, however tenuous, has to be curated through the ‘What would Walt (Disney) Do?’ prism.

So when a club diverges from this path, you’re left wondering why?  Why would a club appoint a DUP councillor and Orangeman, inevitably with all of the baggage that world brings, as their public relations manager?

Today’s revelation in the Daily Record, that Newco’s new PR man, David Graham, referring to Celtic Park as “the piggery”, a few days after his “No surrender” video emerged, will surprise no one.  Do not blame a duck for quaking, material like this is inevitably going to seep out.

But why do Newco want to be represented like this?  Why challenge the modern sports business orthodoxy of appealing to families, high-value corporate spend and big ticket commercial deals?  There is a constituency that will always stay loyal to those with values they share, irrespective of football success or general competency in any other area.

They are circling the wagons ahead of a ‘business interruption event’, either that, or they are the stupidest of stupid people who ever made it through 250k years of largely progressive genetic selection.  No one sailing home on HMS Beagle could predict such a regressive wonder as this lot.

Wash your hands, isolate the vulnerable. If you are vulnerable and need food, shop at quiet times and do not touch your face until you wash your hands at home.  Most of us will get through this, but all of us need to act for those who might not.

That’s fair but doesn’t mean the concerns are not valid.

Also, was it not Obama who released Manning on his departure?

  2. An Tearmann, we have become a nation in Thatcher’s image; greedy selfish bastards who reject the concept of society that we’re all interdependent, we NEED each other. Chickens coming home to roost, big time.

I know of another local authority area where something similar was proposed last week to complete work for submission to the SQA but the plans were quickly scrapped on the advice of the health authority.

Teachers and pupils should refuse to go.

    Ger57,

I doubt we could blame the local authorities, they can only go on the advice provided by the national intelligence and CDC, one run by Pompeo and the other run by Pence, a shitstorm waiting to happen and both too busy blaming communism and looking for countries to hang the blame on rather than do their job protecting their population.

I see a strategic parallel with Res12 here, regarding who and what the executive deem worthy of protection.

Thanks Tontine but that’s not the time i’m referring to because I was still at school then. But I remember firing abuse at the yuill and dodds scab lorrie drivers who were bringing the coal up from Hunterston I think. We also waited at the pelican crossing for them coming down the road then pressing the button so they had to stop while me and my mates limped across the road.

He criminalized whistle blowers as traitors, rather than direct the investigations at the subject matter, allowing pretty much all future organised institutional crime immunity from prosecution, that is what I was suggesting is the greatest attack on their constitution.

Wow, you have been completely indoctrinated by the US media on Assange I see, spouting the party line, that outburst of US propaganda shows the power of the media in the US and demonstrates exactly why they hold their audience in such contempt.

I would try to advise you to do a little research away from the US MSM but it looks like it would be a waste of time unfortunately, what you would find is that not a single charge leveled against Assange is true. But then why should you believe any independent researchers, they’ve probably been labelled communist infiltrators.

Indeed. Which is why it is important to make sure that Johnson and Cummings aren’t allowed to start rewriting history. They are/will be directly responsible for needless deaths. They like soundbites so much how about starting a few? Killer Cummings and Butcher Boris?

Do we lockdown? Are we prepared for the enforcement powers that will be necessary.?

I totally agree with Lisa Nandy that we should now have a coalition round the COBRA table.

What would be acceptable to enforce lockdown in the North of Ireland ?

This decision may be necessary but the longterm consequences of both are frightening.

Of course everyone on Byers road have no Idea of what’s going on and haven’t seen any announcements about self isolating. It can’t be that bad because the government haven’t got troops on the street.

The Scottish Government and the SQA should be making it clear that that should not be happening.

And the individuals responsible for the decision should be named and prohibited from seeking access to the NHS until the pandemic is over.

It’s not only the people who might be infected through attending the schools, it’s the message it sends to the public at large.

  24. Here in Spain we are one week into a two-week lockdown . . . And we’ve been told today it is being extended for another 15 days. So at least one full month of house isolation.

That means no going out for a jog or a cycle. No meeting up at friends houses. No popping out to go for a walk in the park or the beach. No going off to see your aunts, uncles, cousins or grandchildren.

At least 50% of us are going to get it, many may already have it. You are potentially a ticking timebomb for everyone you meet.

Why wait for the govt to tell you what to do? People need to be responsible for their own safety. We all know the best way to avoid getting sick is to stay at home as much as possible. So why wait for the govt to tell you? Just do it.

  25. CANAMALAR

Not a Pompeo guy, sorry. Actually a Bernie man and have been for quite some time. My opinion of Assange is not based on the US MSM.

The idea that Assange is some great modern day Lenny Bruce is frankly preposterous. I like and admire the idea of a Wikileaks but he timed the release of information to harm democratic processes and keeps some interesting company.

Not looking to argue brother. We can differ on Assange.

As I said, waste of time but would love to know two things

    Where you get your info?

Who are his friends you talk about?

He timed the release to ensure the fact checking and corroborative evidence supported the information was not false, he also gave the MSM a say when it was released, remember when it was released all of the information was published by establishment media outlets like the Guardian, NYT & Washington Post.

After they had made their money one and all turned on him and gave you your opinion.

  30. Greenpinata – the law allows for people to take dogs out to the toilet but only within close proximity of their house/apt.

Here in Denia they fined someone out with their dogs who was 800 metres from home.

They also fine you if you are driving somewhere with a passenger in the car. They fined a couple of youngsters yesterday who were out in the car to find a quiet place for sex.

    It’s draconian. Very few exceptions.

I don’t think the UK will handle it well at all. Too many people will be looking for ways to beat the system rather than conforming to it.
