Newco goes into full regressive mode

782

Football clubs find it difficult to maintain a positive brand image that not only helps its commercial imperative, but binds fans ever-closer and attracts new supporters.  There is always some idiot doing something idiotic that neither the club, nor the support as a whole, would even remotely tolerate.

As a consequence, fans across the country sigh at news reports when someone punches a horse, throws a bottle or generally behaves in a manner that defies the struggles their genetic make-up went through to be here today.  Darwin suggested it should not be this way, but here we are.

When a club’s name is associated with some random act of idiocy, a well-known script is followed.  Suspend the culprit and hope it is glossed-over by many, if not, publicly state disapproval while giving the obligatory “tiny minority” sop to the rest of the support, to let them know you have their back, whether it is a tiny minority or not, or even a minority.

Employee-transgressors are almost universally and immediately sacked.  The chef who got drunk and wrote someone on social media that would never be said sober, has supreme-d his last chicken at the club restaurant.

This is harsh, but them’s the rules.  Clubs want to attract everyone in the family, hospitality business and commercial partner spheres.  Negative publicity, however tenuous, has to be curated through the ‘What would Walt (Disney) Do?’ prism.

So when a club diverges from this path, you’re left wondering why?  Why would a club appoint a DUP councillor and Orangeman, inevitably with all of the baggage that world brings, as their public relations manager?

Today’s revelation in the Daily Record, that Newco’s new PR man, David Graham, referring to Celtic Park as “the piggery”, a few days after his “No surrender” video emerged, will surprise no one.  Do not blame a duck for quaking, material like this is inevitably going to seep out.

But why do Newco want to be represented like this?  Why challenge the modern sports business orthodoxy of appealing to families, high-value corporate spend and big ticket commercial deals?  There is a constituency that will always stay loyal to those with values they share, irrespective of football success or general competency in any other area.

They are circling the wagons ahead of a ‘business interruption event’, either that, or they are the stupidest of stupid people who ever made it through 250k years of largely progressive genetic selection.  No one sailing home on HMS Beagle could predict such a regressive wonder as this lot.

Wash your hands, isolate the vulnerable. If you are vulnerable and need food, shop at quiet times and do not touch your face until you wash your hands at home.  Most of us will get through this, but all of us need to act for those who might not.

I see Trump is giving away another $1 trillion handout to his paymasters, that’ll be $2.5 trillion in two weeks, that’s $2.5 trillion they told the Americans they don’t have to invest in infrastructure and health system.

You can be sure the latest handout will make as much difference to the population as the last one did, zero benefit.

  3. From the BDA:

“We believe that current guidance should be more explicit given the continuing spread of the virus and uncertainty around asymptomatic transmission and the associated risks. Given this uncertainty, the BDA recommends that no aerosol generating procedures are undertaken on any patient without appropriately fitting FFP3 masks, other required protection equipment and protocols.

Further, given the uncertainty and reflecting the practical consequences of the current official advice, we recommend that practices cease routine dentistry and operate an advice and emergency service only. Consistent with Government advice to limit social contact, face to face contact should be kept to a minimum but telephone advice should remain available during normal hours. This service will be important for patients, particularly until fully fledged emergency provision is in place. Each practice should make its own risk assessment of what is safe and what can be delivered by way of an ongoing emergency only service.”

FFP3 face masks are in short supply and most companies refusing to supply the dental profession because of the need of those treating COVID-19 patients. In essence if you have toothache you may have to accept an extraction as most other palliative treatment would require the use of a drill and the production of aerosol.

Seriously Sunday dinner is the highlight of the week. But unlike the Regans we don’t have family squabbles over the dinner table. Too busy eating and drinking.

There’s no need for teachers. There will be no teaching done. I expect it will be head, deputy head, dinner staff, Janie and the support staff for the pupils who need them.

Essential workers children are only to go to school if there is absolutely no alternative.

    Gene,

You’ve got to laugh, giving the money to the people responsible for every crash and expecting anything different, definition of madness springs to mind, they really have taken over the asylum.

My auldman told me of a wee joke his dad had with him that it’s like the inmates of an asylum had rolled up some paper and had a kick about with the orderlies watching. The orderlies decided they wanted to play and the inmates have been watching them play ever since.

Initial tranche was indeed distributed via solid and reliable media outlets. The 2016 dumps, albeit it showing favoritism for Hillary Clinton over my man Bernie, do not stand up to the same scrutiny. Just as the Trump tapes looked like doing harm to him, boom, more Wiki dumps harming his opposition.

Again, we can move on. Neither of us is going to convince the other but it seems to me Russia and Wikileaks had similar aims for a while and for that I trust not Assange.

You’re right that no teaching will take place but down here teachers are being used as childminders.

YNWA is an anthem of the Club we All love. They have indeed played it too much, possibly not enough if we are distancing Celtic to Global, and not just very local, intentionally or not.

Not enforceable by the polis as it stands.

    …………..

According to the first Minister and the Polis they CAN….and the Scottish Govt are bringing in rules in relation to this.

As it stamds the Polis can do what they like…if they TELL You to close your Pub ….would you refuse ? Good luck with that.

  21. Big Jimmy

I agree with you buddy, it isn’t law yet, as you said.

Sad that common sense has to be enforced by legislation which is coming.

    COVID-19 PANDEMIC

With regret we have to announce that we will be closing from tomorrow until further notice. With STILL no government announcement to order the closure of bars and restaurants, we have taken it on ourselves to make what we feel is the right decision for the safety of our staff and customers.

We have no idea as yet how long we will be closed for but we’re hoping it will be short term or until such time as this terrible virus has passed. Stay safe everyone and we will see you all soon.

With the market tanked, people showing and the public seeing how incompetent the orange buffoon is maybe we will not get 4 more years come November. Clutching at straws I know as up until this I thought he was a shoe in again.
