Interim accounts for the 6 months to 31 December 2017 were issued by Newco over the Easter break. Income was up £3.1m, due to the new merchandise deal negotiated (paid for) with SportsDirect, higher ticketing and hospitality revenue, although no mention was made in the notes of the progress the club made with its first foray into European football.
Costs were up correspondingly, by £3.5m, leading to a loss of £926k for the period. The previous year, a corresponding loss of £238k led to a season-end loss of £6.663m. We can expect something similar for this season, leaving directors to find an operating loss in the region of £7m.
The good news is that “penniless” Dave King has convinced a Trust to provide the £11m required for him to make an offer for shares his concert party do not already own. The offer of 20p/share is likely to be accepted by some who have tired of the episode, including those who were ousted by King and colleagues in 2015.
It is likely all the money is in place to cover this season’s deficit and the share offer but the big question remains, how to breakeven? Competing with Celtic is not even a question.
If expenditure remains at current levels, reaching the Europa League group stage would bring in enough money to remove the spectre of running out of cash, but that is a huge challenge. Newco would need to overcome four higher seeds to get there (something I doubt has ever been achieved).
They could increase the football budget, but that would expose them to higher-still potential losses, with associated risks. Or they could downsize. Stick with Murty, get rid of the Portuguese vanity projects and develop a team from the ground up.
Downsizing also comes with risks. Vanity projects sell tickets and merchandise. A first team full of teenage graduates from Murray Park would be a hard act to ‘follow’.
In short, I don’t see financial viability in this club, never mind competing with Celtic.

Poison : Was JC correct to be cautious rather than jump to establishment conclusions?
HH.
if you were a stray dug, and you wondered into celtic park led by the smell of the pies …………
and you think , look at awe that grass, am goin for a run.
but then you see a giant hound , nearly 7 feet tall, walking on its hind legs while wearing clothes,
would you hang around ?
You can’t blame all Celtic Supporters, from not going to all of the games, firstly the weather, and there nerds to be a better transport system,to and fro from Parkhead, why a railway station wasn’t built at the Forge Shopping Centre is beyond me,also there is a railway line right under London Rd,which as I remember, was for the Argyle line, that goes under Glasgow Central Station, also that bit of Spare Ground at the corner of Springfield Rd and London Rd,next to the Emirates, Celtic should buy that piece of land ,make it a Car Park,it’s been bare for years, and who owns it,
FAVOURITE UNCLE
Let the wife read it…
i need to start checking what i actually post.

Liverpool supporters were very impressed with the standing area going by this article.
Cheeky beggar, I’m younger than you.
At least I look younger than you:-)
Hoopy, Happy Birthday Doc ???????
I often wonder what became of my Donegal shawl……only the second Celtic scarf I ever owned. The first one was knitted by my Granny, simple Green and white bands and the wool irritated my skin so much ,I would come back from the game with my neck red raw!
The Donegal shawl was such a smooth material compared to my Granny’s knitted scarf, it was like heaven to wear.
I still wish I had both of them though….for purely sentimental reasons.
Doc
Hope you have had/are having a great day…….happy birthday to ya!!!!

Very impressive linkage there.
The Donegal Stole Shawl will be worn tomorrow night in Paradise “by the grace of Ghod” © My Maw
– even though my new Son in Law bought me a Celtic scarf at the St Pauli game in Hamburg on Saturday.
Hail Hail
DOC
Best wishes!
Hope you are having a good one!
Morvcik,s summation above is too black and white, and quite frankly in my opinion, shite.
Care to explain why my opinion is shite ?
The point I am trying to make is that tomorrow night, possibly 20,000 people won’t attend the game.
The weather, transport, cost, work etc will all be given as a good reason for missing the game.
And if these people own a ST, then it’s up to them if they want to support Celtic tomorrow night.
If we were playing Sevco tomorrow night, the vast majority of these people would turn up, singing Faithful Through & Through, Never Walk Alone etc.
No excuses for weather, cost, work etc.
Celtic Park would have 60,000 tomorrow if it was Sevco.
Bournesouprecipe.
Linkage was easy…the writing was impressive…
Like most tims of a certain age that was my first scarf..
I seen a few on show on Saturday..
Hail Hail
MORAVCIK
I won’t be there tomorrow due to the weather and I guarantee the council will be cutting the hedge alongside the M80, so midnight before I see my hoose.
C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
St stubs
Is the stray dog a boy dog or a girl dog?
Reason I’m asking is I see a few of the Raptors around town, and they’re all about 7 feet tall, and the women seem to love them.
When I was last over, VFR Handed over his book to me sight unseen. In December for the last champions league game. I believe he doesn’t like his seat being empty. The man has a big heart…and a big beard!

Sorry … stivs, not stubs, or stirs .. or whatever the bloody computer is calling you today. Apologies!
:)
“but then you see a giant hound , nearly 7 feet tall, walking on its hind legs while wearing clothes,”
Is that not Hoopy?
Woof Woof.
Good to hear BR in about the media at last
Decided to listen to SSB tonight, for the first time in a while. Dalziel and Duffy dear dear. What has happened to the big Maryhill Tim I once knew. Just turned over to Radio Scotland and the first voice I hear is EBT Dodds. Radio off, Radiohead on.
Likewise I switched off R Clyde after 15 mins. Why on earth Gordon Dalzeil is a pundit beats me. Have a look at his CV. He is a nobody. For him to have opinions on Brendan Rodgers or Scott Brown is laughable.
JTT53
Dalziel I can understand. Jim Duffy scunnered me more. He basically said that Brendan Rodgers talks nonsense.
Don’t usually bother with other games but I would like to see victories for Hibs, Thistle and Aberdeen tonight.
Also Sevilla and Juve to keep the ties alive.
Eurochamps67
Good to hear Billy Dodds getting put in his place by all and sundry on R Scotland. Esp Michael Stewart (My hero)
EC67
Agree with your 5 team choices tonight. Emotionally and a coupla shillings financially.

Would it, Aye?…
LOL, do mastermind have a specialist subject round for stating the f##### obvious? :))
DD
‘John Grieg’s a barrel, John Greig’s a barrel of s####, S####, S#####!’
Unification song of our big red double-decker school bus in the 1970s.
On the way to and from primary school – an hour-long trip winding round the estates with numerous pickups swelling the forces – the top deck was divided front and rear between Celtic and local team, Ayr. Taunting chants would inevitably climax with running battles in the middle as forces from either side charged down the aisle or clambered over the seats.
Occasionally some nutters form our side would become part-time Ayr fans to balance the numbers out and ensure maximum engagement and adrenalin rush avoiding the truly mad-metal. At the close of hostilities, however there was always the John Grieg song to be sung heartily by one and all, particularly if there was a moany bus driver who we suspected of being a Hun.
Magic days.
I know what you mean DD, it sounds even worse coming from Jim Duffy. I hope he has a sleepless night.
Come on Hibs and Aberdeen tonight. put Them in their place.
Sandman
I love Ayrshire. Ayrshire folk are totally mental. You just confirmed it. Haha
Happy Days indeed. We fought the VD in Scotstoun Showgrounds. Where the Warriors play now.
VD= Victoria Drive School. Saint Tams warriors had the brain and brawn in these battles.
Aye Surrender was VD school motto.

I have a lot of respect for Michael Stewart.
I also have a lot of time for EBT Stephen Thompson the Buddie fanatic. Not in the Chic Young Saint Mirren kiddy on fashion. :)
DELANEYS DUNKY, you trying to say chic is not a st mirren fan ,shame on you.lol.
The BBC shows Brendan Rodgers saying that certain sections of the Media fail to reflect just how good Broonie really is. The Corporation then shows clips highlighting the` mischievous` side of Scott.
Was that intended to show that Brendan is correct in what he is saying? ( No answers required.)
