Newco may face admin and more, but not relegation

No one can touch the bookies when it comes to promoting their business. One week into the winter break a simple statement saying they suspended betting on Newco being relegated drew interest to the Scottish football betting markets at a time when no games are being played.

Even if they suffered an insolvency event, their 15 point penalty (new club/same club debate does not matter as Rangers insolvency event happened more than 5 years ago) would leave them seventh in the table. Lots can go wrong at a club in administration but Newco are safe from relegation and bookies would be happy to price the risk accordingly.

And let’s remember, Coral established that removal from a league by liquidation (not on the cards, but let’s give Dave King time to work his magic) is not relegation.

Benefactors will need to be found for wages and other costs between now and the end of the season. Then there is the small matter of Dave King having to find £11m to offer shareholders. Factor in his reluctance to do so, the consequences of which could be quite fabulous, and you know why an insolvency event at the five year old incorporated entity occupies so many minds.

Either Dave King makes good on his £50m promises or administration and maybe worse (better) is in the post, but not relegation. You can put money on it.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  3. From the beeb:

“Englishman John Herdman has been named head coach of Canada’s national men’s team, after more than six years in charge of the country’s women’s side.

The 42-year-old took charge of the women’s team in September 2011, and led them to the World Cup quarter-finals in 2015, and two Olympic bronze medals.”

*First saw him in action when I volunteered for the Pan An Games over here, he has done an excellent job here, being old school I wisnae intae womens fitba until the WC and PA games were held here, a lot of talent and enthusiasm and nae theatrics either.

Interestingly their progress in the PA games was hampered as a couple of their best players were down at College in the states sitting mid terms, keep an eye on Canada now.

Who would win in a fight between a Sevco loan and a Sevco debt?

It seems that the 3 berz (aka The Concert Party, aka It Ain’t Half Hot Mum) have provided the much needed cash as loans so there is no debt – the loans are to be converted to worthless pieces of papershares. Ergo a Sevco loan and a Sevco debt are the same thing. So according to Hun Media and Swallow Swallow the Deidy Berz are in rude financial health, and with the new retail deal and income from European football next season they will break even.

One enlightened poster even compared the Jamie Murphy shamblesdeal as a M’bappe type arrangement and cited it as very good business!

Another so called Posh wummin in Glasgows west end back in those days, came at me with a paint Brush and a Pot of Emulsion after I had left a couple of tiny wee dirty paw marks on her living room ceiling after fixing her light………………/

As I was reading that you had left “a couple of tiny wee dirty paw marks on her … “, I really wasn’t expecting the next word to be ceiling!

Michael, I am surprised at you young man…did you ever write the scripts for the Carry On films ? LOL.

True story, she said to me before I

came off the step ladders…” while your are up their young man, paint over those finger marks” !

    No way Missus !

my horse selections today are running like COOS…ah well tomorrow is another day.

  12. I should add, that as a good tradesman I always cleaned up after my work, if that snobby Mrs Doubtfire had simply handed me a damp cloth etc to wipe the ceiling….then NO PROBLEM !

I was NOT about to start painting her ceiling…who did she think I was Michael de feckin Angelo ?

  13. anyway its time to GLOSS over the above story…

I’ll get ma coat…..or would that be my 2nd coat ?

I better leave it there methinks before the Mods get a hold of me.

I don’t think that i will be able to get to that game. My seat is in Area 443, Row EE, Seat 32

The seat 33 next to me is often vacant so you may get 2 together in that location which is second back row. If not that seat, there are normally a few close by that are free for non season ticket games if you get in quick. Try that as soon as the public sale comes up.

  16. From John James today

Speculation is rife tonight that Sevco is preparing for administration. The reports are so widespread that the bookies have stopped taking bets on the club being relegated, based on what they are calling “substantial and irregular” betting patterns.

Administration, if it comes, does so with a 15 point deduction which would leave them eight clear of the drop-zone, and consequences which will take years to erase. The reputational damage will be severe. European football will be suspended, and denied to them, for at least a year with all the attendant effects on the so-called “business plan.”

The SFA will find itself under monumental pressure to explain why the club was allowed to get in this mess.

People are going to say that this is all just speculation. Sevco fans on Twitter are blaming us, “Lawwell’s little lapdogs” and such like. Dear God, are these people totally stone stupid or what? How difficult is it to understand the basic facts of financial reality? Clubs spending more than they earn cannot sustain themselves. A club kept alive by director loans dies when the directors stop giving them those. Everything at Ibrox is up in the air.

A club with fans this stupid does not deserve to survive.

They are mired in scandal, and financial peril. Where do their fans think this ends? Where do they think the swirl of rumours and info is coming from? I can tell them; at least some of the stuff that appears on here has origins inside Ibrox. Phil and Johnjames have excellent sources at the club. Wars are being waged inside the walls and people on every side of those wars is leaking all over the place. In case their fans haven’t twigged, the media never writes those stories … it’s only natural so much of the info out there ends up on sites like this one.

But beyond inside info, beyond being plugged into the rumour factory, we can do the basic math that apparently they and the national newspapers can’t.

We can count. We know how the world works. If your credit card runs out of money, if your bank accounts are empty, if no-one will lend you money or give you charity then you’re in trouble and this club has been surviving on fumes since King and his people took over with their nonsensical promises.

Tomorrow I’m going to tell you why the administration rumours are more than rumours; for the dim-witted in their support I’ll take a look at the myriad problems over there and the ways they are coming to a head but for now note that the club’s reputation is being smashed to smithereens by these stories coming on the heels of the Jamie Murphy fiasco and the only word out of Ibrox’s rapid response media operation is to post pictures of the team in Florida.

I expected a flat-out denial within a half hour of those stories appearing. It may well be that there’s one up before I even finish posting but severe damage has already been done and they’ve been extremely slow to counter the rumours. They are not remotely well run far less an organisation which conducts itself with professionalism and decorum.

Remember what I’ve written here before; clubs do not need to have significant debts before administration is the only option they have. Administration happens when clubs can no longer pay the bills as they come due. Without director loans Sevco would have passed that point 18 months ago or before. If they are finally there I will not be remotely surprised.

It is not just possible, it is certain. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

  17. Jimbob @ 14.02 hrs.

It’s not just so easy to build another safe standing area at the other end. The majority of the seats there are long standing ( pardon the pun ) ST holders.

They would have to be consulted and agree to relocation prior to any decision. Do you not think. ?

Anyway is there not nominally a wait for any ST? Why should the standing area be any different?

  18. Rangers star Kenny Miller won’t face trial for his part in a post Old Firm restaurant rammy.

The Ibrox striker struck a deal with prosecutors and accepted a Direct Measure for his role in a fight at Da Luciano’s in Bothwell last year.

The former Scotland ace had been arrested in connection with a brawl hours after Rangers lost 5-1 to Celtic in September 2016.

Rangers star Kenny Miller’s pal cleared of extortion and knife rap after Old Firm bust up

Miller, 38, was reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident that saw wife Laura, 29, claim she was left with scarring and footprints on her face after being attacked.

The couple both gave evidence at the trial of their friend Billy Steele who walked free from court after being cleared of extortion and violence threats linked to the fracas.

They were both in court supporting him as the verdicts were read out.

  19. If Sevco has a fiver for every time I’ve read on here that they are going into administration/liquidation/can’t pay their bills/wages etc they could buy Messi. I would love it to happen but I won’t get my hopes up yet.

  20. Wouldn’t it be funny if they went into Admin 2 on Valentines day again! Nae flowers for Mrs Sevco, AGAIN!

  21. Presumably the only advantage of Administration would be to offload some onerous Player contracts.

Maybe some more clued in Financial Wizards might highlight other reasons they might go down the Admin route again.

Also remembered his Mum had a bad spell this time last year. Tried texting DD, but no reply. Hope all is well and apologies if I’m just being alarmist. Also wouldn’t want him to miss out on jelly and ice cream if things come to pass down Govan way.
