Newco may face admin and more, but not relegation

No one can touch the bookies when it comes to promoting their business. One week into the winter break a simple statement saying they suspended betting on Newco being relegated drew interest to the Scottish football betting markets at a time when no games are being played.

Even if they suffered an insolvency event, their 15 point penalty (new club/same club debate does not matter as Rangers insolvency event happened more than 5 years ago) would leave them seventh in the table. Lots can go wrong at a club in administration but Newco are safe from relegation and bookies would be happy to price the risk accordingly.

And let’s remember, Coral established that removal from a league by liquidation (not on the cards, but let’s give Dave King time to work his magic) is not relegation.

Benefactors will need to be found for wages and other costs between now and the end of the season. Then there is the small matter of Dave King having to find £11m to offer shareholders. Factor in his reluctance to do so, the consequences of which could be quite fabulous, and you know why an insolvency event at the five year old incorporated entity occupies so many minds.

Either Dave King makes good on his £50m promises or administration and maybe worse (better) is in the post, but not relegation. You can put money on it.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Unfortunately I have a SNP MSP who did not even have the courtesy to contact me when I e-mailed her about an issue I had with a public service ,she got an office worker to contact me, so I wont bother but I have contacted others who are opposed to this act. Good luck

  2. Folks we have had a slight glitch because of the large number of emails being sent which is great news. Hopefully, it’ll be sorted soon.

We’re not expecting many replies from SNP MSPs mate. It’s always worth trying though so thank you.

There was an issue last night. Purely because of the volume of emails the host company blocked any more being sent. We think that this is the same issue this evening.

Ps If you don’t live in Scotland and wish to let the Scottish Government know how you feel about the Act then you can cut and paste the email from the Celtic Trust site and sent it to the First Minister at

Does the Celtic Trust support the singing of songs ,at Celtic away matches in particular, which mention the IRA?

  10. Looking for a bit of advice….. Hoping to take my 5 year old grandson to his first game, the Brechin cup tie. Guessing all parts of the ground will be available. Own favourite would be the Celtic end, round about where the floodlight pylon was near the jungle. His Mum was trying to convince me to go to the family section in the Lisbon Lions Stand. Anyone had experience of this? Other suggestions welcome.

CRC – Thank you very much for the photo from Pink Street. Love it. Apologies for not replying sooner. Bit crazy down here just now, but all’s well.

I have a wee question for you.

Why have I heard nothing from the trust about the corruption and the ongoing cheating re the referees and the sfa ?

  21. HT

I have Bookmarked that link and watched some of it. What an amazingly stupid Act !

    Cheerio for now,

  22. CORKCELT on 9TH JANUARY 2018 8:54 PM

I watched the video of todays training and also looked at the photos i could not see Nir.

  23. TET

If you’re referring to the corruption of the SFA then that particular battle was taken up by the Resolution 12 guys. In regards to this they’re far more knowledge than us on what the current situation is.

In relation to referees etc then there are times when questions have been asked but if you’re expecting statements from the Trust on it you’ll be disappointed my friend. We’re no Sevco! :-)

  24. Whit would sort oot the OBAFA first,………

Was just wondering what the trust actually do, not casting anything, just curious.

The corruption has been ongoing for as long as I can remember so the Res 12 bhoys are new to the scene, to expect them to take control is….well you decide.

Not expecting statement after statement but FFS, I honestly can’t remember that last time I heard anything from the trust re the cheats with the whistles, can you enlighten me as to when it was ?

I joined the trust and with respect, I imagined they would have been a wee bit more proactive in dealing with the real issues concerning our game, IE the corruption and the cheating, I understand that these issues may not be at the head of many folks list, but they sure are at the top of mine and I would suspect many others, as I said not casting anything, just looking for an answer or two.

I fully understand the trust are spending a lot of their time trying to get rid of the obscene act, but if the game carries on the way it’s going, the cheats getting their own way time after time, there won’t be a game for anyone to support, times change, people change, folks with brains will not spend their time and money supporting a lost cause, how many times do we have to witness the corruption to say enough is enough, we may well have an emotional stake, I doubt many of the next generation of weans will have the same stake as we do, just thinking out loud.

Nothing personal, please don’t think it is.

  27. Sevco, are going down the road with E X Player’s, coaching in Murray Park, another 2 joined today Kevin Thompson, Gregory Vignal, don’t know much about him,so as for them going into administration,I don’t think so,They are getting cash from someone, but who, With ex chairman, Johnson, and somebody called Scott, recently appointed to the board, are they laundering money into Sevco,my money is on McColl, the silent one,I think it’s about time he was scrutinized, big government contracts ,for building Ferries,so it wouldn’t surprise me if some of that money found its way to IBrokes
