Newco new start but big question remains

347

A bit surprised that Dave King’s gunboat diplomacy saw an agreement with Sports Direct, which will see the retailer’s interest in Newco end next year.

There is little prospect of Newco making much additional income from this over the next 12 months, as this period is where Sports Direct will receive all compensation for curtailing the period of the deal. But a year out, should they still be around, they will be able to negotiate improved terms, presumably with a different kit supplier.

You can ignore the grandiose bluster from some in the media, this will not in any meaningful way narrow the financial gap between Newco and Celtic, the more important question is why Mike Ashley chose to take an early exit. Maybe taking a limited dividend over the next 12 months is a better bet than hoping for a long-term return from a five-year-old business. Ashley’s people will have run various scenarios.

The important medium-term objective for Newco will be to reduce the dependency on shareholder loans to keep the lights on. They are not a millions miles away from this, and with a premium kit deal it should be possible from season 2018-19, but the central question you and I have pondered occasionally over the last five years remains:

Is a ‘Rangers’ football club commercially viable earning £50m less than Celtic and trailing hopelessly in their wake? I really hate the ‘know your place’ sentiment, but we’ll not have an answer to that question until self-awareness dawns, and there is a realisation that second placed cannon fodder is the best they can hope for.

Aberdeen have lost players (sorry about that) and are likely to be weaker next season. Hearts Cathro experiment looks unlikely to make any sort of challenge, so the Best of the Rest opportunity is wide open. Dream time, for those at Ibrox.

No sure how long I’ll be staying.

Not sure what’s so difficult about the King claim or why SD would say nothing.

Craig Whyte did not commit fraud to buy the club or assets but Charles Green did, so the current shareholders own none of the assets which is why it’s a pointless exercise suing as it’s unlikely to return anything but another liquidation and no even any assets to sell to make up the shortfall. So best strategy, tell King if he wants to stay in charge then pay up, it would be pointless putting them out the game, in all likely hood they’d simply remorph and change the brand and the gullibillies would still claim the same club with old brand dumped along with SD holding loads of unsellable strips. This is the only option available to SD. A year is a long time especially for the gullibillies I mean they forgot their club was liquidated within weeks.

  6. Could the “lying” king possibly be trying to muddy the waters regarding “sporting advantage” with regards to his comments on our financial position. Is he trying to get the idea that we have some kind of unfair advantage over Sevco through our nefarious practices of paying bills and taxes etc. Does he want to plant this idea before the Supreme Court rules and forestall any call for title stripping when EBT’s are finally shown to be illegal.

Or am I crediting him with more intelligence than he actually has?

Present were O’Friel (the inaugurator) the Bishop of Derry(successor to Colmcille), O’Cleary (the scribe) sub chiefs, clergy and a host of others.

25 in all were inaugurated starting with Eigneachan, 1200 ad and ending with Niall Garbh in 1603.

I really fancied this to win last week but it finished well down the field

However the money could be significant as it is a well handicapped horse

    Australia a very poor team.

No link between defence and midfield, as a result, every clearance goes to a Cameroon player.

Rogic is wasted there as the build up is far too slow and he is being man marked.

Am I the only one thinking that the

“new deal ” with the zoomers and mash is to sell the stupidest fans in the world last yrs stock to prevent the newco having to splash out to SDirect for all the unsold stock????

Its a win win for all, zoomers dont have to fork out, SD sell to the zoomers fans , sponsers get to see vomit stained adverts on the company logo all across our bigot strewn land, only losers will be the rest of the plant having to see them in the gruesome tops .

Is the Mike Ashley that has just been swept aside by the genius that is Dave King in the most historic day in Sevco’s five year existence the same Mike Ashley that didn’t even register on a scale of 1-100……?????

It would be fun if Sports Direct owned the leases-or the property outright-for the Rangers Retail outlets.

    Especially the Ibrox Megastore.

I reckon Ashley would board them up and write losses off against tax rather than sell to RRL.

  18. Paul67

The possible difference between last season and the next depending on how good Pedro’s signings are (but lets assume better than the rest, but not as good as Celtic) is that the ILLUSION of competition will last longer.

The game is all an illusion anyway, its not subject only to what goes on field but to what goes off field as well and no one seems too perturbed about that until the illusion of competition into early April say starts to make refereeing decisions more questionable than if the reality is the league is already won.

Perhaps extending the illusion is not a bad thing in excitement terms as long as we take more points off them than they take off us, but if not or even, what goes on off field really will matter.

I see the Offshore Game have asked more questions of the SFA

    http://www.theoffshoregame.net/corrupt-or-incompetent-sfa/

and Regan stands so exposed this has to be another Dougie, Dougie moment in terms of what he has told Celtic.

Doncaster is up to his neck in it too as both had to know enough about the wee tax case to make sure it was air brushed from the LNS Commission. Another strange one was the SFA Judicial Panel in April 2012 charged Whyte with non payment of VAT and PAYE tax but did not include non payment of the wee tax case. That would have raised its profile and put attention on it before commissioning LNS.

    They bloody knew OK.

I’ve seen it reported DK is putting all his eggs in the Pedro basket which makes winning games for them much more important than any other club IN SURVIVAL TERMS as it was in 2010/2011

If season 2017/18 turns out like 2010/2011 when Honest Mistakes were rife in such a scenario, then we will all rue any complacency when we had a chance to sort out the offield assistance they enjoy.

I’m afraid that if Celtic don’t step up to the plate off the park and make the point to the SFA that Celtic and so the SFA are answerable to shareholders and will entertain no more skulduggery, we all might find things a lot tighter than we think.

  19. GuyFawkesaforeverhero on

Celtic should certainly arrange the 2nd leg match against Linfield, if they overcome the San Marino team, for Tuesday 18th July. Expose the part-timers to the max.

3rd round draw will be known before even our first game is played.

San Marino has the least coastline of any non land-locked country in the world. Bosnia is next with its 12km Neum corridor, next to Dubrovnik which was spoken about here earlier in the week. Hope the Celts have to find their way to San Marino next month.
