Newco new start but big question remains

347

A bit surprised that Dave King’s gunboat diplomacy saw an agreement with Sports Direct, which will see the retailer’s interest in Newco end next year.

There is little prospect of Newco making much additional income from this over the next 12 months, as this period is where Sports Direct will receive all compensation for curtailing the period of the deal. But a year out, should they still be around, they will be able to negotiate improved terms, presumably with a different kit supplier.

You can ignore the grandiose bluster from some in the media, this will not in any meaningful way narrow the financial gap between Newco and Celtic, the more important question is why Mike Ashley chose to take an early exit. Maybe taking a limited dividend over the next 12 months is a better bet than hoping for a long-term return from a five-year-old business. Ashley’s people will have run various scenarios.

The important medium-term objective for Newco will be to reduce the dependency on shareholder loans to keep the lights on. They are not a millions miles away from this, and with a premium kit deal it should be possible from season 2018-19, but the central question you and I have pondered occasionally over the last five years remains:

Is a ‘Rangers’ football club commercially viable earning £50m less than Celtic and trailing hopelessly in their wake? I really hate the ‘know your place’ sentiment, but we’ll not have an answer to that question until self-awareness dawns, and there is a realisation that second placed cannon fodder is the best they can hope for.

Aberdeen have lost players (sorry about that) and are likely to be weaker next season. Hearts Cathro experiment looks unlikely to make any sort of challenge, so the Best of the Rest opportunity is wide open. Dream time, for those at Ibrox.

Get involved with the Foundation

There’s a great opportunity to get involved with the Celtic Foundation coming up in October with the Great Scottish Run. Each year the number of Celtic fans who get the trainers on and sign up for this event grows.

It is a magnoficen magnificent thing to do, great for you, and you get to do your part for the Foundation.

Thanks to all who gave me advice on Gairloch.

    Dan.

I will take your advice about the food for the polecats. I would be delighted to see one. The Wildcats would be a dream.

Anyway I’m away tomorrow afternoon so have no intention from tomorrow of posting or lurking for over a week.

“Newco new start but big question remains”……………. P67

    Why isn’t the ‘big question’…

“Why have Celtic Plc said (virtually) nothing about this ongoing scandal?”

For a ‘club’ who were about to go bust, a stadium that should be refurbished. Glibby who is now ‘Fit and Proper… with Johnson (the Accomplice) now back at the ‘crime scene’.

Mike Ashley has reached some form of a settlement in a kit deal, which was supposed to cripple them for years.

Back in the SPL, Back in Europe.

The Magic Hat gone and still seeking compo?

Whytey an innocent man, etc etc etc.

    Debt gone.

New team being assembled (To sell SBs?).

Club 1872, where did that money go?

From being on the brink we are now told that they are ‘from season 2018-19’…(should be able to keep the lights on without financial assistance from directors).

Some change in our analysis. So many predictions of their collapse all seem to just disintegrate.

Well, I suppose we have our financial strength to ‘make them know their place.’ (entitlement?)

Leicester were 5000/1 on winning the EPL with some bookies at the start of season 2015/16.

So our commercial advantages don’t guarantee anything. Especially in a league where it has been shown that the authorities aided and abetted Oldco. Where there are concerns about the officials on and off the pitch and where a new club (54 Titles) seem to call all the shots.

Maybe a pertinent question might be (politely)

When did a CQN leader last question the Plc and PL in particular?

(Let’s wait for the Supreme Court then and hope they go belly up at the hands of their own egos????)

    TAL,

Sorry to read of your loss. I’ve said a prayer for you all.

What do rules matter, the SFA are only interested in the incarnation that plays at Ibrox, the challenge to their license that was anticipated from Gorgie has not happened, I wonder why that is considering Celtic were in the press having visited Tynecastle and graffiti was drawn on a toilet door, now what is more relevant to Hearts and their financial well being. Milne at Aberdeen has stated that Scottish football has to move on, he did not say if this was an agreement reached between clubs, it would not surprise me if it was, the status of Sevco according to Regan is a matter of opinion, in Doncasters opinion they are the same club, Traverso at UEFA says new club however the media appear to have a different letter from the one received by Res 12 leaders.

Banana republic does not get close to describing football administration here and it will get worse, my thoughts are well known to PL and I am not wasting my time writing again to him, at least he replied however it gave me no confidence Celtic plc will do anything, pretty much in line with Milne’s move on.

I don’t want to be right, I so, so much want to be wrong, I want the club to do the right thing, I want all the clubs to do the right thing and make the sfa impose the rules, the rules that would be imposed if it were any other club, am no asking for favours, just the rules to be implamented across the board, but as I said I’ll no be holding my breath.

    You have it spot on.

The PLC suits dont have the inclination to challenge the corruption.

They make too much money out of the bigotry.

Pity they dont have any courage.

It’s all the suits that are at fault and not just ours, though they are the ones whom I had hoped that would have more integrity than the rest of the huns, but alas no, money takes priority over integrity.

UEFA as worse, the huns have a licence at odds with uefa’s FFP rules, they don’t have audited accounts, nor are they allowed to survive by getting loans from investors or directors, yet the hun openly tell the world this is how they are getting by.

What efin chance do we have.

Withdraw funds and you will soon see changes, but as the suits know winning on the pitch clouds the cheating no matter what and no matter how bad it gets, watch the honest mistake ramp up this season, the huns can’t afford to fail.

That is what I can’t get the head around, money is obviously the overriding factor in this, but losing what could amount to 100s of £ millions seems to be not a problem, unless they see that it is money they can do without, as they did do without it and rocking the boat will cost them in the long run, who knows.

But what I do know is that it’s not a viable way to run a business, allowing your main competitor to shaft you time and time again will bite you on the arse at some point and regrets will be plentiful, of that I am certain.
