Newco preaching financial risk blind to Celtic benchmark

510

You would be forgiven for believing you lived in a parallel universe if you read Newco Rangers director, Paul Murray, today, who told us, “the benchmark in Scotland is Celtic”.  “First and foremost, we don’t want to put the club into financial risk”, he told reporters.

Yes, I know, it’s supposed to be the company, or maybe the holding company, that’s put at financial risk, not the club, the club can sail on regardless of financial realities. With an impressive sense of entitlement, but we’ll not press Murray to square that circle.

Let’s instead remind him of the roles of a non-executive director.  PricewaterhouseCoopers define the roles of a non-exec as:

Constructively challenging and contributing to the development of strategy

Monitoring the performance of management

Satisfying themselves that financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust

Succession planning and determining appropriate levels of remuneration for executive directors.

Paul Murray, you will remember, was a non-executive director of oldco Rangers, and that club was well and truly put into financial risk, costing hundreds of creditors money, ending in liquidation.

Businesses have non-executives to offer help but also to be the eyes and ears of ordinary shareholders, creditors, customers, staff and any other stakeholders.  It’s their job to sit at board meetings and ask the questions of the executive management, ensuring the company is able to meet all obligations.

They should be banging fists on the table demanding risks are brought under control.  If they are unable to impose control on management, they should resign.

It was Paul Murray’s role to ensure that financial controls and systems of risk management were robust at oldco.  He was paid to constructively challenge strategy, and to ensure management performed their duties.

In this respect, Murray was magnificent.

22 years ago we went through a rebirth.  The old board, unable to take the club forward, limped off the scene.  Imagine for a second that a few years later Fergus and his fellow directors were swept aside by the old board (who remember saw the writing on the wall and appropriate took steps).

It’s unthinkable.  The benchmark in Scotland is indeed Celtic, where those susceptible to vanity spending on football bling at the cost of financial security will never be the eyes and ears of the club’s fans and shareholders.

These people are perfect in every way.

Re…..Res : 12….I wish yerself and the rest of yer rebel band all the luck and, safety in the world for what can truly be described as, ‘heroic’ efforts on behalf of the cheated innocents.

Still…..I’ve spoke to you before about this and, opined that Celtic supporters most, immediate and dangerous foes will be found in the Celtic hierarchy. I may get booted off the blog for this but….maybe sumdy from the Celtic hierarchy ‘dropped’ ye in it to the establishment hounds ?

Sack the board -Assemble a new one filled with, rebellious Celtic supporters and then,…..take the Res : 12 fight to whatever court will be dealing with it.

Instead of the ‘club’ blowing tens of £ millions on p#shy strikers were, PL and JP get a ‘cut’ form the deals – or the deals widny be happening – use that shameful drain on resources for the Legal Eagles who will ‘ensure’ that, Celtic FC will in the future, be nobodies punchbags.

If the res 12 guys are being threatened by the lunatic fringe from govan then IMO

It should now be the boards MISSION to stand up for these guys and publicly persue this resalution to its rightful and honest conclusion (whatever that may be )

Auldheid and the rest of the guys have stood up and let everyone know they will not be sitting at the back of the bus any longer time for the club and all clubs in Scottish football to stand shoulder to shoulder with them .

I’d agree with you that the board should make their position clear on this, and show a united front.

I also think that it is likely to be a police matter, which might prevent them doing much.

    Good morning

I hope that the board are doing all they can if they believe that there has been wrongdoing but if they have asked the Res 12 guys to put their issues to Uefa then they should be asking police Scotland to safeguard the right of their shareholders to ask perfectly reasonable questions without the threat of intimidation .

I hope they do and promptly

No, for me the new bad thing about usage of the site is the way the page now freezes for 10 seconds after it has downloaded all its adverts, which itself takes a while.

Thats to add to the fact that if you just carry on and start reading the comments while its doing its advert stuff, it takes you back to the top of the page when its finished which is a pain, even if you are half way down

    Celtic vs West Brom

P.S. There is a discussion thread about the youth coaching set up and I found this testimony to Ronny Deila’s input from a poster called Seamus O’Laden. I thought it deserved some exposure considering how much ill-informed comment we see and hear from people who imagine scenarios rather than witness them. As I said, this is from The Huddleboard:-

” There’s a Huddler whose wee fella joined up recently who played alongside my youngest, and although he was always an absolute stand out consistency was his only weakness, but he is a 9/10 minimum every week now at Celtic.

Must be down to Deila, because for a long time it seemed to me like the coaches were going through motions, and the kids were developing, but not at the rate they are now.

My son was a year older than wee Dembele and Angelini but they were in his team. I’ve known them both since they were very young, and one since he was about four. Incredible how they’re developing. Both as players and as kids.

By the way, quick edit here because Ronny Deila has taken part in training sessions with the U9’s all the way up to the first team. He knows most of the young lads, very young lads, by name and that’s something to be admired.

Is he here for the long haul? I don’t know, but whatever he is doing with the youth coaches, by f*** it’s working. “

    Hail Hail fella, brilliant post.

A compelling list and, as you point out there are many more – Freddy for example – still, a charge-sheet that should have seen the compilers of this waste of Celtic supporters money, shown the door for gross incompetence.

That of course, is ‘if’ it is incompetence ?

    Maybe it’s convenience ?

I don’t have the exact figures at hand but, surely this pile of wastage of resources could easily amount to one CL-money-pot ?

I would also assume that, there are, a lot of foreign agents involved in these deals ?

Therefore, that increases the chances that the compiled list is not in any way an indication of, PLC incompetence but, more of an indication that there’s an – Arthur Daley type – of, racket going on inside Celtic PLC ?

I mean, the Celtic PLC folk were described by the late Rangers director Hugh Adams as, financial heavy weights.

So, the PLC operatives are anything but, financially incompetent and, especially over such a long period of time.

So, again….I would conclude that, deceit….on a grand scale has took or, indeed is taking place inside Celtic PLC.

Which allows one to then speculate that, if they can be so deceitful financially….what else are they being, deceitful about ?

The Jungle Jury has returned with they’re vedict…..

    GUILTY!!!!

    SACK THE PLC BOARD!!!!

    THEY’RE – MORE – ANTI-CELTIC THAN, THE HUN ESTABLISHMENT!!!

Disappointed to hear Auldheid’s been picking up some attention, but as I wrote earlier in the week, if Res 12 succeeds, or indeed, if it looks like succeeding, things will become distinctly unpleasant for a while. That’s the way ‘they’ operate I’m afraid.

If anything crosses the line into incitement or threat, get in touch with the Cops. The Focus Unit gets a lot of stick, but they know who the usual suspects are, and a chap at the door tends to put the lid on things.

Problem arises when it becomes orchestrated, professionalised. It happens. No strokes are considered too dirty when it comes to protecting the hive, particularly when the hive is paying the PR invoices.

Keep an eye on it, and make the call when your instinct tells you. There’s a variation of the stiitch in time rule at work in these things.
