News doesn’t pay anymore

801

At the start of the week our man in Poland sent me a link to the Croatian outlet who interviewed Nikica Jelavic.  I mentioned the player in an article yesterday and recalled his earlier comments, which I referenced as background information.    This ‘news’ was subsequently carried by today’s radio and print outlets in Scotland.

It’s maybe a low blow to bring out the ‘Lazy journalism’ point on the day Scotland’s formerly-largest newspaper shed journalists, although the point is perfectly illustrated, but lazy journalism always found its place in the past.  The real problem has little to do with the standard of journalism on offer, it’s about business models in the old media.  News doesn’t pay unless you can tax consumers or bundle it with paid-for football channels, which is not a good thing.

Just to make you aware in case you may be interested, there is a band playing in Blantyre Knights of St. Columba Club on Sunday 15 January, from 2pm onwards. Erin’s Rogues will be performing in the main hall, and are fronted by a local Blantyre Bhoy. Entry is £3 at the door, should any of you be in the area on the day. Last time they were in attendance, a great day was had by all.

Cheap drink and a singsong – fantastic way to spend your Sunday afternoons… :-)

    All over this land

    I’d sing out danger

    I’d sing out a warning

I’d sing out love between my brothers and my sisters

    All over this land

    Well I’ve got a hammer

    And I’ve got a bell

And I’ve got a song to sing

    All over this land

    It’s the bell of freedom

It’s the song about love between my brothers and my sisters

I am quarter of the way into the John Cairney Book “The Seven Penny Gate” on my new Kindle from Santa, it’s absolutely gripping stuff, highly recommended for us Tims.

On another note, I hear that the DR have called in the builders to remove part of the roof so they can air lift Jabba from the building. It’s either that or widen the doorways.

    Thumbsup!

Not sure I concur with your view that ‘The real problem has little to do with the standard of journalism on offer, it’s about business models in the old media.’

Whilst I would agree that the business model is key, for me, the standard of journalism remains a significant part of the problem.

A business model which – instead of trying to offer ‘news’ – offers well-written critical analysis and trustworthy, considered opinion may still attract a readership; although perhaps not in the printed press.
