At the start of the week our man in Poland sent me a link to the Croatian outlet who interviewed Nikica Jelavic. I mentioned the player in an article yesterday and recalled his earlier comments, which I referenced as background information. This ‘news’ was subsequently carried by today’s radio and print outlets in Scotland.
It’s maybe a low blow to bring out the ‘Lazy journalism’ point on the day Scotland’s formerly-largest newspaper shed journalists, although the point is perfectly illustrated, but lazy journalism always found its place in the past. The real problem has little to do with the standard of journalism on offer, it’s about business models in the old media. News doesn’t pay unless you can tax consumers or bundle it with paid-for football channels, which is not a good thing.

Even Ratboy knows the ship is sinking..
From The Drum website
“Twitter is rife with rumours over several big names being sacked from The Daily Record.
Sports editor Jim Traynor is one of the names said to be leaving the Glasgow based newspaper, as well as Bob Caldwell. However, it is currently unclear if Traynor was sacked or resigned.
There has even been rumours from one Tweeter that managing director Tom Hamilton is among the list of those who have lost their jobs.
A Trinity Mirror spokesman said: “We can confirm we have entered into a confidential period of consultation with four senior members of staff from Media Scotland.”

No surprise that Elbows’ appeal for elbowing has been elbowed out.
A big sigh of relief was heard from Arbroth when the news filtered through
Nick Clegg and David Cameron have said they want to do more to stop tax avoidance by big companies.
The deputy PM told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme he hoped there would be progress on an “anti-avoidance” tax rule in the Budget on 21 March.
The prime minister also said a “tougher approach” was needed towards large firms with “fancy corporate lawyers”.
Did you hear that Mr Whyte… :)
G’day Celts whits the craic? Que pasa? Anything ?????
Might be off topic but who so whit :¬)
Anybody else using kik it’s a free instant messenger service (I downloaded from apple / iphone) and you can send pics etc for free. I just had a great 4 way chat between my wife, two sons in Australia (opposite ends of Aus) and myself, it was magic, very happy with it.
Whilst on techno stuff, I gave my wife a kindle fire as a pressie for Christmas, she said it was the best present I’ve ever gave her, she’s using it for mostly reading but, facebook, emails etc as well, its just like an ipad only a lot cheaper.

Gordon_J backing Neil Lennon – Technology has disrupted the music industry just as it has the newspaper industry.
The internet has abolished the scarcity that made physical media valuable. This is a tremendous achievement for mankind. (thumbsup)
Folly Folly
I tend to agree. There is a greater enjoyment to be had freom reading a `paper than a screen but, unfortunately, the terrible anti-Celtic bias in the Scottish media prevents me from buying any `paper even though there are many fine, non-sports articles.
Cheerio for now ,

See what I can find out. The Bhoys are away back offshore after being home for Christmas and New year.

Congratulations to DBBIA on his achieving another milestone in life. Lang may your lum reek.
I don’t want to be pedantic on a day when we should all be enjoying the demise of the likes of Traynor but I have an uncle roughly John Cairney’s age (in fact, I had an aunt who was in his class in St Michael’s). My uncle contends that the title is wrong. It wasn’t a 7d penny gate’; it was a 6d gate. Anybody know the right answer?
I wonder if they got a girl in a gold bikini to do him in with a chain?
ASonOfDan – The prime minister also said a “tougher approach” was needed towards large firms with “fancy corporate lawyers”.
The PM was referring to the Magic Circle law firms in London. Rangers can’t afford fancy corporate lawyers.
They couldn’t even pay their bills on time to low-rent Scottish law firms. (thumbsup)
TET,
A few posters left details last night after your post, that may be helpful for your lad.

Indio, it was a great meal, thanks. Happy New Year to you too. Need to get around to changing the photo.
Sheik Yerbouti, RTC has amply demonstrated the scope for good reporting in Scottish football.
DBBIA, enjoy.
philvisreturns, citizen journalism is not nearly well enough resourced to tackle campaigns that newspapers would previously have been up for. Once the lawyers get involved the whole proposition changes. There is a place for both.
Folly Folly, perhaps, but even the likes of the Guardian, which offers excellent journalistic standards and has an excellent online strategy, is haemorrhaging money.
philvisreturns,
There are similarities, yes – and I guess we could add e-readers and books to the mix.
It’ll be interesting to discover the reasons for the sackings.
Scottish people used to buy more newspapers per head of population than anywhere else in the world.
I think most Celtic supporters can take bad news stories about their team in the press when deserved but when things are so rediculously skewed many threw the towel in.
Cracked Celtic crests, the last after a pre-season friendly defeat ffs.
Thugs and Thieves.
Hearses pictured at the ground, plus MANY other ‘revelations’ during our darkest hours – which ironically and unintentionally did us a massive favour IMO.
Journalists abusing Jo Venglos (one dressed in track suit challenging him to a race) Lubo who? etc.
Comparing the Bunnet to Saddam Hussain
Neil Lennon’s constant vilification – “who is the most hated” “It’s only banter” “Brings it on himself” etc.
There’s many more but you get the drift
I see the huns are 6/1 to draw at Arbroath, desperate for the cash, you never know.

If I could impose, can you send me gallagher’s e-mail addy, he ok’ed it last night.
Much appreciated.

Lhads, looking for some help.Made a mess of work travel arrangements and
I’m now going to be in Pattaya,Thailand the weekend of the Utd Game on the 14th.
I’ve tried CelticBars and found nada.
Anyone recommend anywhere to see the game?
Would prefer to watch it with fellow Tims than on the laptop.
Cheers.

“Whilst I would agree that the business model is key, for me, the standard of journalism remains a significant part of the problem.”
A fair point, but I would say that there are far better newspapers than the Daily Record closing and far better journalists than Jim Traynor losing their jobs all over the world as a result of philvis’ “disruption”. I regard the demise of the general purpose printed newspaper as a step in the right direction for both readers and writers, but even if you don’t, there’s no going back now.

I saw them, thanks.
Did you enjoy your dreams about Baba, cos that’s all they will be :<(((
James Traynor’s epitaph
Succulent lamb
Thanks, Jim.
Gordon J- I’m buying a fair amount of music still – some of it new , and a lot [courtesy of the likes of ole South of Tunis] fairly old.
Ideally I’d buy it on vinyl [which I think still has a future] but I get it on CD, which is nearing the end of it’s usefulness, I think.
Best I’ve bought recently is ‘Traveller’ by Anoushka Shankar [ Indian classic music meets flamenco] and a great Ace triple CD on Fame Records in Muscle Shoals, which I got from Santa.
ParkheadcumSalford – 6d sounds more likely, doesn’t it? Half a shilling, easier to collect.
7d seems an awkward figure, and we all know it’s not like Celtic to be awkward!
[For CQN youngsters 6d is 2 1/2 pence]
DBBIA
Happy Birthday,I’m sure your enjoying it listening to some good tunes.

Not sure that’s true Paul.
If anything, in the light of super injunctions and whatnot, the new media has recently been a lot more effective in disseminating information than the old media has been.
Ultimately, the market will give shape to the public’s priorities re: media. We’ll probably end up with just a small number of national titles, either run as loss-making vanity projects like The Guardian or the Times, or as freesheets like the Metro or London Evening Standard.
I expect Rupert Murdoch’s paywall will fail as a mass-market business model, although it may work for specialist publications. (thumbsup)

Afff a sixpence is betaahh then aff a farthing…….
On a flying visit to glasgow for reasons I wont bore you with and, with the success of the new media, as you know ,our proclaimed paranoia turns out to be minimisation of the scale of the problem. This has made me angry about the place of my birth, well scotland, actually!
Last night, I had a fish supper from Marios pizzas (actually a chippy) in Whiteinch. The finest fried haddock in Glasgow according to owner Steffano who asked for a priest to bless the shop when he took it over. The priest obliged and, for his efforts, he is rewarded every wednesday with a dish of his choice. Steffanno is a real character and, allegedly, a st mirren supporter (I’m sure he winked at me when he said that).
Just had for lunch, an aberdeen agnus scotch pie courtesy of my dad’s extraordinary cooking skills (he placed it carefully in a hot oven for about 10 mins). Drippingly unhealthy but nostalgically yummy!
This quick visit has reminded me of what a wonderful city Glasgow can be, especially, the heart attack food!
HH
PS Dont tell the wife what I’ve been eating or it’ll be back to low fat spread for me!

Paul Baxendale Walker will be delighted.
Gordon_J backing Neil Lennon – There are similarities, yes – and I guess we could add e-readers and books to the mix.
Yup.
Back in the olden days, when David Weir was young, there were probably quite a few monks annoyed at the upstart printing press usurping their role as keepers of knowledge too. (thumbsup)
Good afternoon to the Celtic Family from a bright sunny Central Scotland. Well I must admit not being a fan of Traynor However,I would never laugh at anyone who losses there job.Having unfortunatel lost a couple of jobs throughout my life I know how devastating it can be.I am not sure Bangura going on loan is a good thing I feel he has not had a real chance of a run in the team so its hard for him to show his worth also it looks like we are going to be outpriced for the Martimo striker as its rumoured a German club have offered over 5 million and if true I dont see us competing for his signature at that price. So we will have to wait and see who Lennie turns to now.H.H.
Not only am I listening to some good choons the ole weather has magically transformed the humble Nith into a passable imitation of the mighty Mississippi.
I’ve just seen Memphis Minnie walkin’ past in a pair of thigh waders.
The Honest Mistake loves being first – Paul Baxendale Walker will be delighted.
How comes? (thumbsup)
