Next year’s Jackie McNamara, Rovers, Kieran

538

Of course, it happened in our ’67 anniversary season. Celtic were drawn away to Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup, as the Rovers dumped Queen of the South out of the competition last night. The tiny Lanarkshire club (arguably the smallest in Scotland) don’t have an illustrious history, but Jock Stein played more games for them than any other team. In Coatbridge, that counts.

I’m sure it makes sense for Kieran Tierney to have a shoulder operation while he’s out with an ankle injury but it’s very unwelcome news that the player needed the work. Despite upbeat reports I’m sceptical the op will not further delay his return. For a start, any notions of getting upper body work done are no longer valid.

Uniquely in European football, Celtic’s season is skewed to the start, not to when the prizes are given out at the end, which have become a meritocratic formality. With no European football after Christmas this season, the remainder of the campaign will be about getting ready for July and August, when the really important stuff takes place.

Kieran will miss three Champions League group stage games in total, last Sunday’s cup final and some atmospheric games to come; this will be the source of some regret to the teenager. In compensation he can look forward to picking up a league winner’s medal at the end of the season, and hopefully being in top condition for the qualifiers.

To be fair to Robbie Neilson, even when he was a success at Hearts he wasn’t overwhelmingly appreciated. This season it looks like the party’s over, so I understand why he would take a job at MK Dons which, on the face of it, looks like a dangerous step.

Dons are two points above relegation (to the fourth tier), without a league win in two months. The club has serious structural issues which any new manager would find difficult to compensate for with little more than a few fresh tactical notions. But at least Neilson can’t be blamed for relegation, should it happen.

He’s next year’s Jackie McNamara.

I think it is clearly stating that they are an entire new entity. STV clearly state that there was a break in continuity and that the new club did not have 3 years membership of the national association until 2015.

I know you are more au fait with the technicalities of this so if you think I’m wrong I’d be interested to have you clarify it for me.

    @Auldheid @Barcabhoy1 transfered

“When X went into liquidation their assets AND MEMBERSHIP to play football were TRANSFERRED to a new company”

    TRUE?

Stand down. It was the use of Memberships and transferred (including SFA) that I thought misleading in giving impression of continuity.

The SFA Membership was transferred but as far as UEFA are concerned that transfer does not make RFC = TRFC/RIFC.

To UEFA the TRFC/RIFC are a NEW club in club/company form.

  4. Good evening friends,

Whilst hoping, for once, that Hearts give their manager a nice leaving present, tonight my 40 shillings are invested in a similar manner as last Saturday – so looking for at least 3 goals, 12 corners and 6 cards at just under 6/1.

    Embdy bothered about updates? ‘-)

    jobo …..

got my scouts at tynecastle tonight …. they are going to report back on whether there has been a let down with Hearts, and whether Ross County might be worth a punt on the weekend.

It’s strange to think that some clubs/companies think that European competition will somehow be a saviour.

In reality, it’s tough in late summer to qualify for the Champions League or Uefa Cup when your drawn to play teams from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, you name it…

Celtic and other top teams from Scotland have often fallen at the early hurdles of these competitions. I’m pretty sure in some cases participating and being eliminated early has actually cost the clubs money.

Why is should be projected as the be all and end all of any club/company’s ambitions is beyond me.

  7. Off at a slight tangent…..

Slapped of forehead this morning to discover Aberdeen had not won a league match at Ibrox since 1991!

Not sure if im now encouraged or discouraged about the outcome this weekend….

  8. Just heard a story from someone with a business background that Sevco have sold Murray Park and are leasing it back. Absolutely no idea of its veracity or not. Has anyone heard anything similar.

I don’t know anyone who would want to buy it. I don’t think anyone can build houses on it because it’s on the water plain of Milngavie. When the Fairways housing estate across the road from it was built, the house owners who lived nearest Auchenhowie Road (and thus Murray Park) had to be decanted from their houses while remedial work had to be carried out to prevent damage from flooding and dampness.

  9. The Rangers* have won 7 league games this season. 2 against bottom club Partick, 1 against 11th placed Kilmarnock, 1 against 10th placed Inverness, 2 against 7th placed Dundee and 1 against a top 6 side, Motherwell; who are 6th. 3 of the wins have come in injury time, including their last 2 games.

    Hearts are overpriced!

Just saying although, tes, I might be subconsciously obsessed!

dafty delusional 2nd rangers zombie monkey hun on clyde – when we win our next 3 games and get 9 point , blah blah blah.

the russ abbott gurn faced respect person hasnt won 3 league games in a row since february.

    they might get 3 points.

but i think hearts will pump them tonight.

    someone has to.

  11. ” To UEFA the TRFC/RIFC are a NEW club in club/company form.”

    Great line

    Correct

The membership issue is SFA owned

  12. Huns will win this comfortably – Hearts have gone already

I could be wrong of course :-)

Was in prior to Gladbach game in October. Different from most establishments in the Gallowgate , still full of Tims , mostly wanting food with their beverages;-)))

  14. VFR800

I was focusing on the xfer of Memberships point but you are correct and have articulated a point that needs wider understanding in the CQN Magazine.

To UEFA TRFC /RIFC have not been members of the SFA for more than 4 years.

    2012 not 1872.

  15. Today games in Russia

Ural 1 – 0 FC Rostov in Yekaterinburg, temperature -9C

    Rubin Kazan 1 – 0 Arsenal Tula in Kazan,temperature -15C

    Zenit St. Petersburg 2 – 0 FC Ufa in St.Petersburg,temperature -8C

CSKA Moscow 2 – 0 Gazovik Orenburg in Moscow temperature -12C

Imagine you are supporter of these clubs,or better away supporter. Stadiums with stands, no walls around.

    Tomorrow another four games.

  16. I thought there was senior football on NT sport tonight? There appears to be two non league teams instead. Hard to tell but it’s pretty brutal.

Also, is it necessary to have the ball on the park? It appears superfluous to both teams plans.

  17. Hearts losing by the most important distance in sport – 6 inches – between your ears – panic stricken in the rangers area – scared in their own

    I hope I’m wrong

  18. sixtaeseven - 65 trophies in my LT on

Rangers are crap … unfortunately Hearts – are just as bad if not worse

  19. It’s football but not as we know it. Each player is only allowed to connect with the ball once then they must give it to the opposition.

  20. Tricoloured Ribbon on

This match at Tynecastle would get fitba stopped.Absolutely awful match. Both teams are rank.

  21. On the euro licence for sevco debate .

Davidopoulos post @ 4.39 stated that a “going concern warning” in the accounts is a breach of the FFP criteria .

Which has been the case for the last couple of years.

    Significant ?

The final ball from both teams at Tynecastle is crap.

  22. The standard of football is so poor that it’s extremely watchable! Everyone’s 2nd touch is a tackle.

  23. sixtaeseven - 65 trophies in my LT on

To DoDoo or Not DoDoo – that is the question.

Not football as we know it … ha ha
