Nir Biton, preparations for the ArenA

1993

There will have been tired limbs at Lennonxtown when the players resumed full training yesterday after their exertions on Tuesday night but they will still be desperate to take to the field at Firhill on Sunday.  This game is a necessary preparation ahead of the Amsterdam AreanA in 12 days.

We have an advantage for Amsterdam…..

Ajax are nip and tuck with a handful of clubs near the top of the Dutch league.  They have three home games in the league and cup before facing Celtic and the pressure is on to win each of them.  Ajax don’t have the ability to allow players extended recuperation time to ensure they are in pristine condition for Champions League duty, Celtic do.

I would rest everyone we don’t have good cover for.  This is also a game for Nir Biton to start.  The player needs to get back in the saddle as quickly as possible after Tuesday, he is also unlikely to see Champions League group stage action again this season.

After his international and other duties, Charlie Mulgrew would benefit from a rest.  We don’t have sufficient cover for James Forrest and Beram Kayal, so send them away for the weekend.

Use every advantage possible.

… yet Lord Wallace said I was the only one with a concern that Masonic oaths and judicial oaths may conflict when a Freemason judge tries one of his brethren who he is sworn to prefer and aid when in trouble. When people are in court they are usually in trouble.

Possibly we might be without Samaras on Sunday as Barcelona representatives presently at at Celtic Park trying to thrash out a loan deal to allow him to appear in El Classico at the weekend

Our shredder in work has now been renamed “The Ibrox stapler”.

  5. Did we not try giving people a rest and playing Biton & Rogic against Morton….that didn’t work out to well !!!!

  6. For the weekend Derby, I would play players who are fully fit and rest players who are not. Our fully fit players can benefit from more game time in some cases and continued improvement/confidence growth in others. Our squad players —Rogic, Fisher etc– should still be good enough to win against any team in the SPFL.

Pukki covered more ground, 12286m to be precise, than other player on the park in that match. Whatever you saw in his play, it was not lack of effort

    ==============================================

Doing that amount of running without really creating any threat is wasted energy, however as always people have different opinions,my opinion is he is not,at this time, showing as the solution to our forward problems.

Pukki was far from a passenger but, like Anthony Stokes (our 2nd best for distance covered) he had the thankless task of chasing down and harrying the pass retention tactics of the Ajax back 4.

Without their joint efforts, Charlie and Beram would have had less time and more space to cover. He sacrificed his game for the greater good and should get plaudits for that instead of being dismissed as a jogger.

The only thing that differentiated Tony Stokes game performance from Pukki’s was that Tony won a penalty and we do not expect Tony to work as hard so we give him plaudits when our misconceptions are overturned. Pukki does not seem to receive such consideration.

I am reserving judgement before I see whether Pukki can be a decent scoring attacking midfielder for Celtic, just like Tony Stokes is already. We still need a potent striker to supplement these guys in the future.

Where was Vic Wanyama in the October of his first season with us?

You are absolutely right about the work that Stokes and Pukki put in. The amount of pressing they did was tremendous. I thought they would tire in the second half but they kept it up.

Is it not terrible that we are only listed as number 3 in the list of best supported clubs in the world.

If Mr. Desmond invested a bit more of his money and Peter Lawell stopped stealing our money and Neil Lennon shouted and sang a bit more, we could easily break through this glass ceiling to overtake the Dortmund and Boca fans.

£5m would buy 10 small private jets to bring voluble and musical fans from Ireland, the USA and Australia to our home fixtures. Even if we bought just 9 such jets, we could use the money saved to provide free booze to lubricate their throats and help raise the decibels. Obviously, they’d have to buy their own booze for the return journey as we are not made of money.

Can I stand for president on this ticket?

    ============================================

Typical board apologist. Why not push the boat out and get one BIG HUGE jet. 10 small jets, half of them won`t make it and spend most of the time warming the hangar. Say they burn 20 gallons of fuel per hour, look at the value of having one BIG HUGE proven jet, although it burns a lot more it will guarantee getting there. (Apart from Torre Andre Dreamliner) And with Peter and Desmond pilot & co pilot. How much would it cost for 10 wee pilots? Aye, you`ll get tae places like Dingwall and Perth without refuelling, (well Perth anyway) but a BIG HUGE MARQUEE jet could get to Dingwall and BACK, with still enough fuel to take Desmond on to Barbados. It`s your narrow mindedness that the board exploit. Unless we get into the EPL. Then we can buy Appollo 67

With you 100% on the Pukki `debate`. Seems to me that your oponents just change the rules when you used your stats to show that he put in a lot of effort. Also seems to me that View and excathedra are assessing Pukki on what they think he should be rather than what he is ie an industrious support player.

Good to see that you took my advice from yesterday. I like this more helpful, considerate gent :-)

  13. Well done, Paul – I always advocate resting everyone around vital CL games; last year there were hysterical fits on here when we failed to beat Killie, Arbroath, and Dundee United but managed to turn Barca and Spartak.

Which bit of glory did the moaners prefer? Rest ’em all – we can easily make up the points to win the SPL: David Brent FACT.

Pukki bashers – shame on you. Give the bhoy a chance to shine before you crucify him; and try watching the GAME of football and not just the highlights playing in your narrow minds – he did what his job designation stated on Tuesday: close down, close down, close down, pick up scraps and try and make something of it. No glamorous swashbuckling role.

Or perhaps now that Sammi has shoved the shameful vitriol back in the faces of the Green Huns, frustration, intolerance and ignorance requires a new player in the Hoops to boo?

“Doing that amount of running without really creating any threat is wasted energy,”

Not at all. Some people’s jobs on a football pitch involves countering threats and is not at all creative. In the modern game, forward players must press ball playing defenders and defensive mids. Both Pukki and Stokes did this. The only creative think that Anto did was to win a penalty; that is all that distinguishes them.

If the stats are true then I’m very surprised. I’m not writing him off in the slightest as I think he’ll turn into a really good player for us but I watched him all game, there were good moments and he was good on the ball under difficult circumstances. He may well have done a lot of running but if he did it may be because his starting positions were wrong as he wasn’t close enough to play. Stokes looked a lot more involved in both defence and attack and I’d imagine his km is lower… it’s about having the positional awareness as well.

If one of the little jets is out of action, we still have the other nine. If the Jumbo is out of commission, who is going to lead the singing then?

  19. Earlier this year, Mr King settled a long-running dispute with the South African Revenue Service and agreed to pay it £44.75m after admitting he owed income tax and had contravened tax legislation by failing to provide correct information about incomes earned over a number of years.

The payment agreement was reached as an alternative to an 82-year jail term for 41 terms of breaching the tax legislation, while the revenue service also agreed to drop prosecutions over fraud charges in relation to his business dealings.

I may be in a minority (I usually am)but I’ve never had such a misconception. I don’t think I’ve ever considered critisising him for lack of work rate.

  21. the arrivals hall at Glasgow airport must be rich in the atmosphere of impending salvation. As Jingle Jangle , Chico , and assorted acolytes get all tenty trousered with the imminent arrival of the lates billionaire to save their heroes.

Look out for fronds laid all along Paisley Rd West and streets lined with mothers holding up babies to get a glimpse of the private limo ( proprietors Dinsdale Cabs) as it splutters to halt outside the condemned building. This will keep me amused until the real Glasgow derby takes place on Sunday.

There is the small matter of El Classico as well tomorrow, but the real stuff is on Sunday.
