After edging ever-closer to a deal for weeks, it looks certain Patrick Roberts will not be playing for Celtic next season. You are well-aware Celtic have been desperate to secure his permanent signing from Manchester City, but I have it on good authority that the club and player are now looking elsewhere.
Brendan Rodgers has both budget and ambition for the season ahead and Patrick was a big part of those plans, but the manager has now moved attention elsewhere (and I don’t mean to Aberdeen).
Patrick blossomed here, in particular during the second half of last season. He is an entertainer in the great Celtic tradition, but I have confidence in the manager to deliver what is required for the challenges ahead.
We wish Patrick all the best and thank him for a great 18 months.

Glad to see you posting but would it not be more prudent to wait & see who else might go and who we get in before passing judgement on either the Manager or the Board.
I’m sure even you will agree we did OK last year, getting Paddy permanently was always a long shot & while it is disappointing to have that door more or less closed on us, I have no doubt but we will get a couple of quality players in.
So let’s all be a little patient & stop jumping the gun.

Disappointing news about Paddy.
How close were we to signing him?
Lots of Celtic friendly sites hinted, very strongly, that we were very close.
Brian Quinn states it was not happening.
The question in my head is, were we really close to signing him or was it fake news?

Bottom line is we need to move on from the Roberts will we or wont we saga, it annoying and overshadowing much of the summer. I would like to hear Brendan confirm the deal is dead and move forward with a high quality replacement. Paddy was good and very likeable, but is far from irreplaceable. Evidently we have cash to spend so let’s see what happens.

They have pursued the player and reached an agreement with his parent club.
