After edging ever-closer to a deal for weeks, it looks certain Patrick Roberts will not be playing for Celtic next season. You are well-aware Celtic have been desperate to secure his permanent signing from Manchester City, but I have it on good authority that the club and player are now looking elsewhere.
Brendan Rodgers has both budget and ambition for the season ahead and Patrick was a big part of those plans, but the manager has now moved attention elsewhere (and I don’t mean to Aberdeen).
Patrick blossomed here, in particular during the second half of last season. He is an entertainer in the great Celtic tradition, but I have confidence in the manager to deliver what is required for the challenges ahead.
We wish Patrick all the best and thank him for a great 18 months.

Lisbon was magic but clouded somewhat by amnesia. Trying to link blog names on CQN to actual names when you are stoned out your napper is a tough job. Haha
Met one guy fae Canada, maybe TAL??
Was magical with the best company you could imagine.

I am so pleased for him
Also this week BBC Scotland had a wonderful programme about him in honour of his 75th birthday.
3 paintings were commissioned.
First was by Jack Vetriano who painted him in a pose taken from a programme he did when he was young and touring Scotland. He was in a trench coat with a powerful swirling sea behind him.
2nd was by a modern artist Rachel McLean (I think) who dressed him up like a 17th century Scottish nobleman. The costume was multi-coloured (garish actually ) and all of the accoutrements were related to his career. She imposed a background of a modern Glasgow fish and chip shop but, in contrast, painted him with a most solemn expression. How anyone could ever conceive such an amazing image is way beyond my straight laced imagination.
3rd was by his old friend John Byrne who had produced the covers of his early albums. He painted him as he is today.
The paintings will hang in The Peoples Palace and the images have been put on large murals on gable ends in Glasgow.
Bbc is much maligned but thus programme will remain in my memory for ever.

Even wee Betty Windsor put that cowardly reptilian witch May to shame today. May and the Tory’s are up to their necks in guilt for this disaster. May they burn in hell.

Tontine Tim.
Celtic 0 Wolves 2. I too went to that.2-0 flattered Celtic.
*No kidding and this was not a full strength Wolves side either. Big highlight of the game was the turning on of the lights, one bank at a time, tae the roar of the fans. They were the biggest and best in Europe which Hampden later modelled theirs on. Meanwhile over in Govan they would have been better with davy lamps.
I was also at the turning on of the Boagheid lights in which Charlie Tully gave a virtuoso display tae the salivating Connemara Diaspora in the town.
Ian Lochhead ?Mmm -not a good player.I remember him playing in the 4-0 semi loss to St Mirren.A deserved thrashing.58-59 was a dreadful season.
*Ian Lochhead was just another lost soul in those days, he must have had a bit of talent as the Big Mhan signed him.
The SC Semi of that season saw the winding down of Bobby Evans great career, he was tormented by Celtic supporters Gerry Baker and Tommy Bryceland, St Mirren also had an inside left called Tommy Gemmell, who hailed from that Celtic hotbed of Tarbolton ))).
We as youngsters were delighted when the MSM said we had signed Tommy Gemmell only tae burst our bubble saying it was not THE TG but a youngster fae Coltness, were laughing on the other side of their faces 5 ½ year later when they realised we did have THE TG.
My main memory of that game was the main stand bouncing up and down tae the constant chant of “when the saints go marching in”.
10 months later the Celtic end was also bouncing up and down tae the strains of “when the saints go marching out” as Smiler’s nap hand sent the holders crashing out after a 2nd replay.
Alas that fervour soon dissipated when 2 months later we suffered another humiliation at Hampden 1-4 in a similar SC Semi although this time it was a replay, the huns had never beat us in a cup replay until that night, once again Bobby was tormented, this time by jimmy millar who must have been as old as him.

Opening of lights by Wolves. Believe that Wolves’ keeper was a Valeman called Findlayson.
*Yip big Malcolm, he came fae Bonhill, his granny lived on the next street tae mine doon the Vale. They wurnae short of a bob or two as it was a nice house on quite a bit of land.
He was one of those goalies like oul Ronnie who did well down south, 2 League winners and 1 FA Cup winner’s medals, and yet didnae get capped. Ronnie had 2 FA Cup winners’ medals and yet only got his 1st of 5 caps after coming tae us.
Incidentally, Malcolm actually played 3 games for our reserves before joining Millwall.

I made the Hydro event which was just wonderful but not Lisbon.
I went in a green jacket with a CQN Jock Stein teashirt underneath. Only time in my life that I was stopped and complemented for my apparel.
There were some great tv programmes on various channels which did the Lions proud on that week which I enjoyed and treasured so it was good here too.

Trigger’s Broom Official…
The Billy Connolly programme was very moving.
I’m 4 years younger so in a sense grew up with Billy Connolly. I’ve seen him live and he is a comic genius.
Watched him swagger away from Love St the year we won the title from Hearts. I was waiting to collect my lad and unaware Dundee had scored late so the Big Yins swagger got me thinking “Have we?”
Best bit for me is when they showed the pics on gable ends. The colorful one ended up on a Gallowgate tenement at 151 where I was born.
It felt right Billy being so close to my close.

Thank you for your excellent contributions to this site and the Celtic cause.
Tontine/South of Tunis.
I was at the Wolves match and all the St Mirren games. Two draws before Mochan scored 5 at CP.
Yup the Bakers and Millar had Evans on toast as his best days were on the wane.
Memories ye canny whack them.

I first saw Billy in `67 or `68 backing Matt Mc Ginn at Jimmy Logan`s ” Meet at the Met ” ( ropole ) .
A Folk night. Hosted by Larry Marshall .
He sang ” See the baggy minnies scatteeeeerrrr. Doon at Saltcoats fur the ferr. ”
A revelation . Unique . Iconoclastic . Fearless.
My mate and I grabbed every opportunity to see him after that including his stint with Gerry Rafferty in the Humblebums.
Followed his career since then. Saw him in Linwood scout hall late `73 in a crowd of 7 .
Later that year he was packing them out at the Kings.
He transformed Scottish humour and entertainment. The Irish connection from Ballyconneely .
How many of today`s British comedians have been mentored by watching Billy ?
I could go on all day.
Great chatting.

Here’s the question

What’s your view on Pope Francis appointing Professor Biggar, an abortion supporter, to the Pontifical Academy for Life?
Beware of false prophets, who are wolves in sheeps’ clothing.
Inv GG,
I have lost the plot since wee Fearne was taken from David so young. That hurt me so much…. I still have the card on my desk in front of me… I didn’t know what to write on the card… I said that to Dave @ the time.
I know I’m digressing and I really apologise for that.
I worked nightshift Scotstoun shipyard and I normally go Alderman Road (I think) bad memory…… For some Strange Reason I decided to go along Dumbarton Road. I go for about 2 or 3 hundred yards and then I see what looks like the spitting image of Co (Corinne)… I drive to the lights… It was Co… Co walks in a certain way.
Anyway, It turns out that wee Co had no money and had to walk to work….. FFS she was willing to Walk to work.
Corinne has no right to be here, she went through a lot more operations as a baby than I did.
Corinne is Core pro Life.
It is just as well I am not in the pro Life group. I’d be jailed defending against the nasty Bullies.
