No deal for Celtic and Roberts as both look elsewhere

884

After edging ever-closer to a deal for weeks, it looks certain Patrick Roberts will not be playing for Celtic next season. You are well-aware Celtic have been desperate to secure his permanent signing from Manchester City, but I have it on good authority that the club and player are now looking elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers has both budget and ambition for the season ahead and Patrick was a big part of those plans, but the manager has now moved attention elsewhere (and I don’t mean to Aberdeen).

Patrick blossomed here, in particular during the second half of last season. He is an entertainer in the great Celtic tradition, but I have confidence in the manager to deliver what is required for the challenges ahead.

We wish Patrick all the best and thank him for a great 18 months.

If ever there was doubt about the value of having a monarchy in U.K. , there can be no doubt now.

As politicians of every party are heckled ( some vilified on CQN ) and called to account , and quite rightly , the Queen becomes the unifying figure for the nation.

Really only a symbol , but thats all that is needed .

She arrives at the scene of the horror , carries out her duties with her grandson and is treated with great respect.

And this at the age of ninety something.

Your opinion, bud. I’m happy with mine.

  5. Hope all the guys who are Barbecuing or Beering, or both, today, have a Grand Old Day and enjoy the company. Would have loved to have joined you, but my Good Lady has other plans for me, unfortunately.

Looking forward to Friday, and the release of the dates for next seasons games so i can start planning. Can’t wait to get back to Paradise.

Awesome result for Scotland against the wallabies. Should have been more Scots in the Lions, it’s like not playing Jimmy Johnstone. Playing the Maori AB’s tonight in Rotorua and I want the Maori’s to win.

As its Oldtims bbq day i thought id tell a wee tale from Lisbon.

    Hope he doesn’t mind!

Oldtim, Kolncelt and myself went for a few beers while many of the others attended mass.

We could have had a beer at a bar/cafe that was next to the Chapel but we took a walk down to the sea front as it would be cooler.

On the way we asked Oldtim about his visit 50 years previous and one query was about what age he was then.

Either 27 or 28 was his reply.

This led to bewildered looks from Kolncelt and myself and we added that surely he must know?

Well……it was a long time ago he said.

But your birthday will be the same time each year?

On establishing when his birthday is we then got to know that he was actually 27 at the time!

Guess you had to be there :)

    Have a great time Oldtim!

  14. Morning all. I would like to pass on thanks to all who contributed to the Goals for Shay comp at the end of the season , especially CRC & Jobo ( former EK weatherman now tourist ) for organising . Thanks to a combination of luck , and amateur defending by Sunderland , my last joker on Chelsea came up trumps .

I’d just like to inform you that every penny from the 1st prize went to a mobility scooter for my wife , It’s now been delivered , assembled and space found in the wee hut out the back to keep it in . Hopefully this scooter helps in her fight against the neurological illness that’s attacked her movement and cognitive skills for the past 3 years . So , many thanks again to everyone who contributed and took part .

For those religiously minded , can you say a prayer for my father in law . Wee Archie”s life can now be counted in hours and maybe days left . He’s swam against the tide being a Celtic fan , he grew up in a family that indulged in a culture based on 2 colours not associated with being a Tim .He faithfully followed the hoops for years , often alone , and not a jot was given about what others thought .

He loved watching last season on TV despite going through lashings of Kleenex , as he bubbled like a wean every time we sang the walk on .

Sorry for the long post , but heartfelt condolences to everyone caught up in the Grenfell disaster this week . Having lived in a tower block in London’s east end years ago , it doesn’t bear thinking about , what they went through .

To anyone going to Oldtims barby or the mini hoot ,or both ,have a ball and enjoy . When does the season start ? HH

What a post. Lovely. Powerful. Wee Archie epitomises the struggles of many Celtic fans of that era. My own father and father in law included. Both now departed and missed last season. They would have bubbled too. Glad Archie was able to witness it.

Re 1958-59 team: Whilst agreeing with most of TT’s recollections, mine are slightly different.I always ‘feared’ Ralph Brand getting on the ball as he did the ‘business’ and Millar the ‘work’

Millar,Brand and Wilson IIRC were our nemeses in those days! Don’t do Google so could be well wrong
