No excuses, please, Brendan

480

As a rule, I don’t like managers complaining about the pitch, the weather (Barbara is blowing in Hamilton right now), the ball or anything else prior to a game. Experience suggests if you give players an excuse to underperform, they’ll grab it with both hands.

The pitch at the Superseal (save us) Stadium Hamilton is more than adequate for a football match, let’s get on with it.

After a run of solid results Accies came off the rails in the last two games, losing narrowly to the top two: 1-0 away to Celtic then 1-2 to Newco in Hamilton. These are not the games which are important for Hamilton but losing twice by a single goal will sting. Barricades will be reinforced for Celtic tomorrow.

Brendan Rodgers has managed his squad subliminally well this month, resting players throughout but still putting a team on the field to win all, apart from the 1-1 away in the Champions League. He’ll know that anything less than 100% tomorrow brings the real risk of dropped points, so I’m far from sure he’ll be in the mood to rest anyone.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we saw images of Kieran Tierney back training. When he went through his operation we were told it would be January before we’d see him back, but he’s a fit lad, I wonder if he’ll be ready for 20 minutes on the magnificently smooth Lanarkshire surface.

  1. I’m sure the players have been told more than once to ignore what is written in the papers or aired on TV. Brendan will have let them know that he uses the media for his own ends. Whatever he wants the players to hear or know, they will be told face to face on the training ground or in the change room. I would think him and Martin O’Neill are very similar in that respect.

Tony I consistently said during the referendum campaign that the SNP had to deliver 4 things

    1. A Scottish Republic (no ties to the British Monarchy)

    2. Our own currency (no financial influence from London or Brussels)

    3. A fiscal policy not dependent upon North Sea Oil

    4. The truth about the tax increases required to provide a sustainable socialist budget

The couldn’t provide detail on any of them; until someone is honest enough to put that type of manifesto forward Scotland will never succeed as an independent nation!

I don’t see the problem with the currency either, it’s not rocket science, the euro. Simple.

I don’t agree with that Tony; we shouldn’t be tied to the Euro as it prevents us from determining our own fiscal policies. I also don’t see why we would vote for independence from the “wee union” (Great Britain) to join the “big union” (Europe). Let’s have a shot at running our own country the way we want it!

  11. HUNDERBIRDS ARE GONE on 23RD DECEMBER 2016 11:45 AM

Can I convey my deepest sympathies to all of those recently bereaved. It is a difficult time of the year to face such grief. Remember the gift of knowing, and sharing the life, of the people you loved.

I wrote a few months ago about my shock of learning a very close friend was starting a battle with cancer. I was best man at Dougie’s wedding 25 years ago. His wife is Irish, and the wedding was held in Mullingar, and the honeymoon (which I joined the couple on) was in Dingle. That week is one of my happiest memories i have in my life.

Sad to say that happiness has been matched by my shock to hear the news that Dougie’s chemo has been unsuccessful, the cancer has spread, and his depressing prognosis is that he has 6 months at best to live, and possibly only 3.

Could I ask that any CQNers who have a strong faith could perhaps add my great friend to their prayers. His wife, his teenage daughter and son do not deserve this news, especially at such a time. Dougie is only 53 years old.

Best wishes to everyone over Christmas, and I hope everyone has a positive new year.

    ….

Sad news….my thoughts are with Dougie and his family..
