No excuses, please, Brendan

480

As a rule, I don’t like managers complaining about the pitch, the weather (Barbara is blowing in Hamilton right now), the ball or anything else prior to a game. Experience suggests if you give players an excuse to underperform, they’ll grab it with both hands.

The pitch at the Superseal (save us) Stadium Hamilton is more than adequate for a football match, let’s get on with it.

After a run of solid results Accies came off the rails in the last two games, losing narrowly to the top two: 1-0 away to Celtic then 1-2 to Newco in Hamilton. These are not the games which are important for Hamilton but losing twice by a single goal will sting. Barricades will be reinforced for Celtic tomorrow.

Brendan Rodgers has managed his squad subliminally well this month, resting players throughout but still putting a team on the field to win all, apart from the 1-1 away in the Champions League. He’ll know that anything less than 100% tomorrow brings the real risk of dropped points, so I’m far from sure he’ll be in the mood to rest anyone.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we saw images of Kieran Tierney back training. When he went through his operation we were told it would be January before we’d see him back, but he’s a fit lad, I wonder if he’ll be ready for 20 minutes on the magnificently smooth Lanarkshire surface.

  1. Ming,

It was a stick on. Not surprised. Integrity died a long time ago.

    And not just in football.

  6. Is there a fear of observing the integrity of the game inside the Cellic PLC boardroom after Lawwell took abuse from the SMSM about his and, Celtic’s observing of the integrity of the game when, back in 2008, PL said that Celtic objected to an extension to the season(even though there was one) as, the huns had a fixture pile up, because Cellic were ready to head for a tournament in Japan which turned out to….not be the case.

So, with the same-club / Res:12 issues….have Cellic took a back seat because they found out to be telling porkie pies back in 2008 ?

Ah mean, why did Lawwell not just come out and tell everybody that the huns had a fixture pile-up because of all the SC replays that they needed and, that they asked to get the game vs Gretna cancelled ?

Telling little white lies to avoid offending the Orcs is out of the same book as….

    “We’re a stand alone club!”….

“Every penny that we take in will be reinvested into the team!”….

    “Ronny was our top target!”….

    “Rory Bremner!” p#sh…..etc……

    DD…..

“Rangers FC are a wonderful club with, wonderful fans and a wonderful history and, they should be in the same league as Celtic FC!”…..

    Fergus McCann….

“Putting Rangers FC out of the same league as, Celtic FC is the worst decision ever!”….

    Rudderless….

Hamilton seems to be busy today and “Gloss” isn’t even opened yet :-)

By the way love the fact your Da is after an OAP season ticket, get him on here to sort out the unhappy Tic fans :-)

  9. Kev, I self-deleted a post directed towards yourself that I had written when I re-read it and realised it was so uncharitable.

I’m really, really sorry that you cannot find some joy in our club, especially at this time of the year. I genuinely wish you and yours all the best in this season, though I assume that that wish is forlorn.

    Hail hail.

  10. So in Europe’s top Friday Night tie I had planned on investing my 30 shillings on Aberdeen – but not at 4/6. So, whilst I still hope that Aberdeen (and Hearts) do win I will instead be hoping for 4 or more goals, 4 or more cards and 12 or more corners, the treble coming in (or more than likely not) at 10/1.

In the other games I fancy Hearts, St Johnstone and Ross County.

Loving this Friday Night Football. Honestly!

  11. Gerryfaethebrig-Gloss, more a park lane man my self:-))).my dad told me mater of fact that he’s coming with me nxt season,to be honest Gerry a was pretty chuffed when he told me ;-))))

  12. No one in Scotland other than some Celtic supporters care about bringing the SFA and Rangers to account for their duplicity. Shrug shoulders, lessons learned, won’t happen again.

I never went to one game with my dad (he passed in 1995) I love reading others stories, there was no reason apart from I was the youngest of 5 (total mistake) so my dad had stopped going to games, by the time I was on the scene and I think mainly as he forgot to come home, this was my mother words, but I listened to his tales and as I got older by all accounts as a youngster I also forgot to come home :-)

Showing my age with Gloss, but frequented there then the Palace……only when I had a visa to leave the Brig

  14. Good Evening.

In case of interest… two new short pieces have issued from Clumpany Towers.

One is about the Record being caught out in apparently wrongly claiming that Warbo flew to Spain to try and sign a player. It is an utterly bizarre episode…

    https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2016/12/23/warbos-top-secret-flight-to-spain/

And the other is about how Sevco fans really did get ‘Glad All Over’ to No.1 in the charts…

  15. I work with a bhoy who told me KT would be getting his shoulder sorted at the same time as ankle, also maybe Man City bound eventually

  16. As its traditional to give out rewards at this time of the year may I put forward a nomination for “most improved playing surface” to Motherwell. unrecognizable from a couple of seasons ago.

    As Aberdeen take the lead…..

  17. Gerry, your tale resonates with me. I too never attended a match with my dad, though I was brought up, and imbued with, tales of exploits past. He was the man who ‘gifted’ me the love of Celtic that I have to this day.

Then, in the ’66/’67 season I eventually managed to persuade him that this Celtic was THE business. Eventually he agreed that I get him a ticket and he duly turned up to see the Vojvodina game. As Big Billy planted his napper on the ball for the late winner the biggest guy in the crowd, immediately behind my dad, picked him up by the hair in his ecstasy. On the way home in the car he agreed that that Celtic team were something special, but that he would never be back. And he wasn’t, though he enjoyed Lisboa as much as any Tim on earth!

  18. Hi Guys Thanks to lennybhoy for alerting me to your condolences but rest assured myself & family are all in good health & long may it continue:) Condolences to all on the blog who have lost loved ones recently MAH

  19. Read that Jack Butland England is well on way to recovery from injury sustained playing for England.

He was picked ahead of Fraser Forster that night.

    Why???

Forster never really gets the credit he deserves in England considering his goals against stats.

Is it because he is not the flashiest goalkeeper?

He uses his size well and has good positioning so makes less spectacular saves.

I always think back to the Shilton and Clemence era where everyone raved about Shilton more.

Shilton who was more athletic often made spectacular diving saves but Clemence didn’t as much due to his positioning being superior.

I always felt Clemence was better.

England have always loved the flashy young keeper, Hart was the anointed one when FF was coming through so had no chance.

Butland was then anointed when the the Hart project failed, however Butland has already been replaced by Jordan Pickford
