No let-up in HMRC football pursuits

617

News that Harry Redknapp and Milan Mandaric, former manager and owner of Portsmouth FC respectively, will face trial in January over allegations they attempted to defraud HM Revenue and Customs will cast a long shadow within the football business in what is shaping up to be a landmark year for the game’s relationship with tax authorities.

Unlike Rangers on-going HMRC case, which is a mere tribunal that will decide if a liability demand is valid, Radknapp and Mandaric face criminal charges.  Redknapp is one of England’s most popular sporting figures but no more so than former jockey, Lester Piggott, who received a three year jail sentence for tax evasion in 1987.

High profile wins, at Crown Court or a First Tier Tribunal, are likely to bring in more undeclared tax than a bus load of cartoon characters in bowler hats.

  1. Masons, referees, blindfolds, bad decisions.

Yes, maybe here is a link!

    What am I saying AAHHHH!

  2. They say that anti-pesticides are becoming less useful as the vermin become immune to their effect.

The increased infestation on this site would suggest that our anti-pesticide witticisms are proving ineffective as they are flying over the heads of the uneducated.

Anybody know how to dumb down?

P.S. I reckon truth’s last attempt at a joke, on the previous thread, was him proving he did not know the ordinal that comes after third.

  3. Bobby – yes I am always weary of those knees.

But truth be told its something I have been thinking about for a while – I’m 44 and its a big step – but what the hell you only live once. I could move to England (not short of job offers) – but needs to be something more radical for me.

Lots of discussions with family ahead – but mind is made up.

I have met Salmond on two separate occassions – once at a conference – he was charming publicly. Once where I helped host his visit to our workplace. We were in dispute with Unions at the time (these days I am a member of the management team) – he was a disgrace, a bully and didnt know how to deal with anyone directly. He blamed his staff for the visit – god knows how they put up with him.

Alex Salmond – first dictator of an independent Scotland – has a certain ring to it dont you think?

from earlier thread, your post reminded me of going to Liverpool v Newcastle about 10 years ago with a friend who is a liverpool fan.I bought a celtic/liverpool scarf and got abuse from behind, unpleasant personal crap and anti celtic stuff. I chortled to myself when Shearer equalised and then a Danish fan asked the goons behind me to take a photo of him, they couldn’t even find the button ! I gave a nice little grin.

I note your comments and realise that this is a decision that is a long time coming and not taken likely.

Whatever and wherever you decide for yourself and your family– God speed and best wishes in all things.

No journalists name and they never named the match commander. I would expect more info from the invisible man. Still remain unconvinced.

They say they are trying to locate the offenders but have never contacted the club ????

I am normally pleasant and welcoming to thee, I can’t help thinking though that you don’t follow a football club and have a political interest in blogging on cqn (nothing wrong with that to be honest), out of curiosity, who played in defence behind Laudrup ?

I understand how you feel as it’s a dangerous time for catholics/Irish in the best wee bigoted country in the world.

Have been in New York for 20 years and love the fact that my kids could wear any sporting jersey they chose without me have to be paranoid about some hun attacking them.

Lived in London before that for ten and that was ok except for a little brush with a hun at a party who asked me what school i went to.My retort of not the same one as you ya OB had people wondering why i suddenly reacted that way.He knew and left.

America is not perfect but i feel a lot safer here than i ever do when returning to Britain and the ned culture that pervades.

  12. I heard ther polis launched a daybreak raid on one of the GB’s hooses yesterday morning- huckling the poor soul for a weekend lie in and a Monday morning court appearance- possible the arrest they need to back up the songs complaint. When you think of the times we have heard the mini orcs, ironically chanting Paedo at us as well as the banned hello hello ditty, the sheep singing about our Glasgow slums and apparent diet of rats, and the rest of the SPL huns telling us that NL is a self abuser, and not one polis has been offended by any of that- what are real motives behind this?

What 4 “Celts in riot” headlines? I don’t look at the Sun but if the guy has previous, evidence it, so we can expose him for falsehood and bias.
