No one offered Celtic job yet

1032

Roy Keane is due at a press conference in Dublin this afternoon and he is sure to be asked about Daily Mail reports this afternoon that he is set to be appointed Celtic manager as early as tomorrow.

It’s pretty clear Celtic have spoken to Keane but NO ONE HAS THE JOB YET, the Club are still speaking to a number of candidates.

We’re going to remain hostages to news reports for a while. The sooner things are sorted the better.

If you missed it earlier………

Lisbon Lion John Hughes is joining Brogan Rogan, Auldheid and Angela Haggerty for a CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June. The event is ticket only, so let me know if you would like to attend, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Only Chinese-born parliamentarian in UK to quit politics over racist abuse

The UK’s only Chinese-born parliamentarian will not seek re-election to the Northern Ireland assembly due to continual racist abuse directed at her by loyalists, she confirmed on Thursday.

Anna Lo told the Guardian she had had enough and would not run again for the centrist Alliance party in the next Stormont assembly elections.

The Hong-Kong-born immigrant, who has lived in Northern Ireland for four decades, said she was also considering leaving the province for good because of enduring sectarianism and now rising racism.

  5. Anyone wondering if there’s an element of expectation management going on with all these suggestions, new bookies’ favourites, hot tips etc?

Apart from the obvious, what do the following footballers have in common:

    Eric Cantona

    Ryan Giggs

    Alfredo di Stefano

    George Weah

    George Best (the clincher)

We are feeding our own expectation management into these rumours. It is unlikely to be a co-ordinated plot.

To what end would it serve to get Celtic fans into fevered speculation? We don’t need any outside influence to feed this. Just check CQN after Mowbray got sacked or after MON and WGS walked.

Why has Roy Keane been spoken to about the Celtic job?

What has he done as a manager to warrant being sounded out?

He hasn`t been a club manager for 3 and a half years.

Yes he got promotion from the Championship with Sunderland. But that was over 7 years ago now and getting a team promoted from the Championship is no guarantee of success at Celtic – as Tony Mowbray proves – or indeed anywhere else in the future.

In fact managers who get promotion from the Championship hardly ever go on to bigger and better things. For every Martinez or Rodgers there is a Warnock, an Adkins, a Mackay, a Holloway, a Hughton, a Mowbray or a McCarthy. All of whom are either back in the Championship or out of work.

If we are speaking to Roy Keane and the selection process is purely about managerial ability and achievements then we must be speaking to at least another 800 managers.

Otherwise it smacks of someone being appointed on reasons other than merit.

…good call and actually better than the answer.

Let’s leave it at that then shall we.

If there is any one man I DONT want to get the job – its Roy Keane.

    I cant stand the man.

What on earth reads on his CV that would make us want him as a manager!?

Motivational skills – you must be joking.

Patience and tolerance for those at a lesser standard than his own beyond world class ego skills – you must be joking.

Aptitude for coaching average players and making them better – see above for reasons you must be joking.

Track record for acquiring value from the transfer market – Craig Gordon indicates this is another joke.

Previous 2 managerial clubs he has fallen out with everyone at the club – boardroom and players.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont do this Celtic – it hurt to see him a Celtic jersey playing for us, I just about got over or around it because he was good.

dont allow this cretin to take control of my beloved Celtic.

Sometimes someone is just the right fit for a particular club.

We’ll see what Mr. Lennon goes on to do in his career.

My bet is he won’t reach the heights he did at Celtic.

If it is to be Keano we can only hope it is meant to be – he, like Lennon, will be able to call on the advice of some very experienced people in the game.

The fact he took on the No.2 role to O’Neill proves he is willing to listen.

“That we greet a mediocre appointment with relief, purely because it’s not one of the more divisive candidates.”

But we would do that anyway so there would be no need to orchestrate it.

If you remember the post-WGS list (Mowbray, Coyle, Martinez and McGhee) the criticism was that our Board had not offered enough to attract anyone other than 4 mediocre applicants (that is how they were all described, then). They actually did not trail big names, they paraded the so-called mediocrity. No-one rated Martinez then and he would have been 4th choice amongst the support or equal 3rd with Mark McGhee at best.

It is not the Board who trail fantasy transfer targets whether they be players or managers; it is us- the Celtic fans who do so. And we ought to take responsibility for it.

  21. Re the Celtic – Real Madrid game (my second ever football match), one of my proudest possessions is a couple of menu cards from the post match dinner, signed by both teams.

And Real got to keep the “Blue and White Trophy”. Maybe we should challenge then for it.
