No one will ‘do a Regi’

200

Heading away from home in Europe, to a team who looked pretty decent at Celtic Park, when we’ve already qualified and have left players at home to train, or avoid suspension, would under many circumstances be a toxic portent for Celtic.

We seldom travel well in group stage competition, nor when there is little at stake, but if we’ve learned anything about Ronny Deila it’s that he will let those who do play know what is expected of them.

Stefan Scepovic or Leigh Griffiths have a point to prove?  A field in Zagreb will be available to them.  Whoever plays, you can guarantee no one will ‘do a Regi’.  Kids can ask their mum or dad about that one.

No suspensions, no injuries, please, Celtic.

  1. Tonight’s game has been referred to as a dead rubber which of course as far as qualification is concerned it is. However as regards accumulating co-efficient points it is certainly not.

Those 2 points that Celtic will pick up for a win tonight could be the difference in coming seasons between Celtic being seeded in the qualifying rounds or not seeded. That could result in Celtic going thru to the group stages and getting a £20 m windfall or dropping down into the Europa Cup and getting maybe £5m.

Sevco when and if they ever qualify for Europe will never be seeded and as a result are highly unlikely ever to reach the group stages of either European competition. At least not in our lifetime!

Tonight’s game is certainly not a dead rubber.

Celtic’s 5th Round William Hill Scottish Cup tie against Dundee at Dens Park will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2015 with a 12.30pm KO

  3. On second thoughts, maybe its a good thing their game is getting televised. After we hump them the week before, they will get around 10,000 gate,if lucky.Raith have to get their share of any monies,so half the TV money will do a lot more for them than it will the hun.The money they will receive wont even scratch their problems cashwise.

Its a long time until February if you are a hun.

It’s extra money for thems RR and the SFA, mind you I’m not sure if it’s pooled with the rest of the clubs, my thinking is if it was they would have picked two better games, then again in saying that as some one just posted it is the return of the last years Ramsdends cup final, ticket touts will be rubbing there hands, hottest ticket in town.

The Roll of Honour was compiled this year over a weekend around a month ago and we simply put on everyone who posted. Sorry you missed out!

Next year we will go back to doing the dreaded list – I didn’t do that this year for fear of hogging the blog with it. I was getting enough stick from the Zombies re the Sunday Herald ad without getting CQNers on my case too!

Charlie Miller? A bitter wee HUN, who at the drop of a hat would give you any sectarian song from there hymn sheet, if he can get away with it, .

He tried it in my pub in Canada, and the rest is history.

    re 3-2 game at Pittodrie.

Cracking game of football, sticks in the mind even today, think it was a Sunday evening kick-off.

Forgive the memory but as I recollect it, Willie Young was the ref, we missed 2 penalties (Burley and Donnelly) and converted a 3rd (Larsson). We should have been awarded another 1 or 2 penalties by the way. I think there were a couple of red cards too.

Dons DJ played “Money Money Money” by Abba and “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt at half time (the squad were “working to rule” during the bonus dispute, so no media interviews).

At the time I though Regi’s o.g. was more Gould’s fault as he came running out of his area when there was no need to.

Gould cost us a few times doing that, vs. Zurich at home was another occasion I think, following which Tam Boyd was ordered off for saving the resultant shot with his hand. Zurich player skied the penalty at the Celtic end though, spooked by the noise we made. Their goal came when Gould watched as a mis-hit cross (from the captain, Fischer?) sailed over his head and into the net.

And Prosinecki’s performance at CP for Zagreb remains one of the best displays of football I’ve ever seen. Seemed to control the game by standing just behind the centre circle and spraying passes around, barely moving more than 10 yards.

Instead of playing hardball , by starving them of air time, once again BBC Scotland funnels our license fee directly into their account.

  16. Jackie McNamara admits it will be tough for Dundee United and Aberdeen to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

But the Tannadice manager, whose charges entertain the Dons on Saturday, remains hopeful that a team can run Ronny Deila’s side close.

“Everybody wants to see a potential challenge to Celtic, which is a big ask with the finances and all the resources,” McNamara says. “But both teams would love to do that.”

Celtic will stretch clear whilst these teams beat each other. A nice 10 point lead going into February will allow us to concentrate on the cups and Europe.
