No rest period for Emilio will be welcomed

673

I know I’m not the only one with a pavlovian dislike of hearing Celtic players mentioned in international match reports in June.  Preseason training is only four weeks away, quickly followed by the Champions League qualifying round, so these weeks should be for rest and recuperation.  The one exception to the rule, this summer, is Emilio Izaguirre, who is set to play two World Cup qualifiers for Honduras over the next two weeks.

Emilio missed most of last season through injury and then sat out much of the remaining part of the campaign due to the impressive form of Charlie Mulgrew.  He is the one player in the squad who benefit from competitive football to restore his edge, and confidence.

Ah Now yer talking. If Celtic were to play Real Madrid in Limerick or Ennis I’d fly FROM Philly to Shannon and bring along a bunch of old age pensioners!

A bit harsh, Celtic improved well in the first season when they kicked into gear, Beram Kayal really drove Celtic on and I am sure AT and JM were instrumental in us becoming a better unit all over the pitch.

There is now an opportunity to improve further and I am sure Neil will make another excellent selection.

I wasn’t trying to be smart with you chacho. That is why i said,i “hoped” the Madrid game was after the qualifiers.

First qualifying game is 29th July? Then if we get past that hurdle, there is another round,so you were right,it is an unwelcome distraction in the grand scheme of things.

They are a young team though, and a very talented team at that. They should,as i expect,be both able to qualify for the group stages, and take part in the game against Real.

I am sure that Lenny and Jose can come to some sort of agreement, that they won’t kick our players too much.

  7. petec – Agreed that it was slightly harsh but I still feel that it was the manager who called all the shots and inspired the players. I just felt that when Neil had a spate with an official it always looked like AT & Big J left him to it. If they had more of an influence then I would have expected them to have been more shoulder to shoulder than they have been to date.

I would call THIS at THIS time considering these polemic times whatever it is as a MAJOR DISTRACTION. An old saying escapes me just now..something about Clyde boats and bananas.

  9. Gutted about Thommo – one of my all time Celtic favourites and completed a great threesome with Lennon & Mjallby.

He wore Paul McStay’s No. 8 jersey with distinction and had a great Celtic spirit and heart.

    All the best Alan.

Major distraction nothing. This really isn’t anything to get the knickers in a knot about. A drama over nothing, if you ask me.

For Thommo, a professional and personal tragedy, although it sounds like it was not without some blame. For Neil, a hard decision to have taken but one which will stand him good in times to come. A good manager must learn to wield the knife. Failure must not be tolerated. A stronger Neil – and a stronger Celtic – will emerge.

There is no distraction here. Celtic will have acted with complete probity, Lennon with ruthlessness. And onward we will go.

The eyes are very much on the prize. This has been done to AVOID distractions when it counts. Everyone keep calm.

Perhaps before publishing stuff you should get an education.

Learning how to spell would be a start:

“Without so much as backlash or descent,

Results on the pitch weren’t great loses to Killie,Dundee Utd and Hearts,”

Descent means travelling in a downwards direction. I suspect the word ‘dissent’ is possibly what you meant.

    ‘Loses’ should be ‘losses’.

And a few grammar lessons wouldn’t go amiss.

Memory implants might help too. As I recall, there was quite a bit of ‘dissent’ regarding the wage cuts.

When you consider how heroic all the RFCia staff could have been simply by not taking their wages in EBTs. They might even have avoided pushing RFCia on the slippery ‘descent’ to liquidation.

So we allow problems – perhaps serious problems – to happen within our own walls, because of Rangers timetable?

I think not. We have acted entirely properly here.

  17. One of my colleagues at work has a terrible problem with atrocious spelling.

Every email he issues just makes him appear truly thick.

Whilst we can all make typos, choosing the wrong word really undermines your own intelligence.

Blogs are full of typos and even deliberate short-cut spelling. But there isn’t much point in copyright when no-one would ever want to copy the crap you wrote in the first place.

That’s good mate,im not on twitter or facebooked or myspace or anything like that, only CQN. – too old for that carry on i am.

Heard the interview on the radio though,im a Westie myself – really good listen it was – the wee one saying the never to be forgotten line “sugarpuffs” had me in stitches!

Best of luck to yous both, yiz are a credit.

  19. Wee match report –

Rangers went ahead after 15 minutes, when Joos Valgaeren tripped Novo in the box.

The Spaniard, able to start after having a red card received last weekend downgraded to a yellow, slotted the spot-kick into the corner of the net.

Rangers substitute Bob Malcolm, dropped to allow Alex Rae to return to midfield, was led up the tunnel by police for what appeared to be viewed as an obscene gesture in celebration.

Dado Prso scored Rangers’ second goal

Celtic dominated possession and Stanislav Varga headed a couple of feet wide from a corner.

But the reigning champions fell further behind after 36 minutes, Prso heading home from 12 yards following a free-kick from Ricksen.

Thompson was sent off after squaring up to Lovenkrands, who over-reacted to the contact and was subsequently booked, the Rangers forward having fouled Jackie McNamara.

Camara, already on a yellow card, was lucky not to follow after lashing out at Vignal and was replaced with Stephen Pearson at half-time.

Celtic goalkeeper Magnus Hedman prevented a third goal, twice turning close-range efforts from Prso for a corner.

Sutton was sent off for a second bookable offence after twice deliberately handling the ball in one movement within the Rangers penalty box in the 56th minute.

Nine-man Celtic still managed to threaten, Stilian Petrov firing straight at Stefan Klos from 14 yards.

    ———————

Just looking at the names of the tax dodgers who played in that game annoys me. The downgrading of Novo’s red card is significant given his reputation just so he could face the bhoys. Oh and it happened last season with `Elbows’ who went on to crock Kayal.

    History repeating itself?

  26. I know my logic isn’t great but Mr Green, isn’t there a clause in your purchase of RFCia shares which states something like, if we don’t get everything our way the shares revert back to CW.

As such, how can you claim Mr CW is no longer involved with the club?

Do you mean Mr CW is potentially no longer involved with the club.

I suppose with the same stunning force of logic, if you jettison all the players and staff who are/were on EBTs, RFCia shouldn’t be held accountable for that either.
