PAUL LAMBERT has activated a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season.
The former Celtic skipper will leave the Lancashire club after Blackburn’s match against Reading on Saturday week.
Today Lambert confirmed the departure that CQN has been predicting for the last few weeks. Lambert said, “I would like to place on record my thanks to the owners, and especially the players, staff and fans for the tremendous backing and support I have received since I arrived.”
“It’s a brilliant club, with great people, and I wish it every success in the future. For now, I remain fully focused and determined to try to win the final two games of the season, starting this Saturday against Rotherham.”
After a spell at Livingston. Lambert’s managerial career really took off when he was appointed Norwich City manager. His success at Carrow Road attracted the attention of Aston Villa where he succeeded in keeping them in the Premier League, but was plagued with problems in dealing with Villa’s owners.
Villa fans speak very highly of Paul Lambert from his time at the club.
Lambert signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Ewood Park in November last year, but after having his fingered burnt at Villa Park, he inserted the clause which has allowed him to walk. In recent weeks Lambert, as CQN reported, failed to reach the club’s owners to discuss the plan for next season. While Rovers begin their search for a new manager, Lambert will no doubt see some money placed on him becoming the next manager of Celtic.
