NO SHOW KYOGO

KYOGO FURUHASHI was a no show for Rennes again as he remained an unused substitute in his new side’s 4-0 win over struggling Montpellier yesterday.

The former Celtic fans’ favourite has struggled for game time at the French club and didn’t get off the bench during the previous Ligue 1 outing, a 2-0 loss at Lille.

Kyogo, who quit the Hoops on January 27 after three and a half years and 85 goals, made his debut in a 1-0 win over Strasbourg, but was hooked in the 66th minute after struggling to make an instant impact.

THE LAST HURRAH…Kyogo Furuhashi celebrates his second strike in Celtic’s 4-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall on January 11, his final goal for the Hoops.

Adding to the Japanese striker’s woes, the manager who bought him, Jorge Sampaoli, was sacked three days after the player’s arrival and replaced by Habib Beye.

Thirty-year-old Kyogo has played a mere 83 minutes of first-team football since leaving Parkhead and he is highly unlikely to feature in Rennes’ next match – a home match against league leaders Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday afternoon.

The French giants are heading for another title, are unbeaten after 24 games and are 13 points ahead of nearest challengers Marseille.

Kyogo’s new side are now eleventh in the 18-team top-flight division, 10 points above the drop zone.

At the time of his signing, Kyogo told the local media: “I hope to make a rapid contribution to the team’s performances.”

Sadly, for the little frontman, it hasn’t quite gone according to plan.
