No sugar coating last night’s consequences

465

Exciting day as we await the Champions League Group Stage draw! Ideally, I would like to go to Frankfurt (already have the Tshirt), Seville and Lisbon.   Whoever we get, this level of competition will be a new level for much of the current squad.

There is no point sugar coating what happened last night.  After achieving remarkably in the Europa League last season, Newco again defined my expectations and progressed to the group stage of the Champions League for the first time.  The money that will now flow into Ibrox, on top of last season’s earnings and cash from sales over the summer, should put them on a solid financial footing for the first time.

They are a strong and effective team, underestimate them at your peril.

Having sponsored both teams for 7 years I understand what hospitality options both have and there is very little to chose between them.

Celtic does not underperform in this regard. Corporate Scotland attending football in Scotland to any degrees is a figment of folks imagination. Golf and Rugby Internationals and down to Wimbledon etc maybes but not Scottish football.

Successful small businesses do support their teams in this area. Celtic does as well as them and has more premium options.

It’s their core fans who pay more for standard seats and also shit like club deck seats.

  3. Mad Mitch We will need to get rid of Dermot Desmond and co before we can build a new Stand ,just look at the grey cheap suits them directors wear ,that to me says it all about them ,miserable so and sos

  4. Retaliation in first — big team from a small country and global performance.

Obviously it will cause problems / makes thing difficult.

But it shouldn’t make it impossible.

Egg chasing example — the All Blacks.

    They have found a way.

  5. well said B78.

But yir man your conversing with knows nothing about a whole range of subjects, he just makes it up.

He has not a clue about anything.

Hospitality — I might be behind the curve on this / outsider looking in but my impression was that they had better support / larger corporate fanbase and this brought them in a higher level of hospitality revenue.

Pre-covid — the empty boxes above the free pie seats in the North Stand told me that we were struggling to fill what we have got and that pointed to a poor corporate fanbase or poor marketing.

Your sponsorship — beer / Tennent’s back in the day?

We need to make P/head part of the Golf / M/field circuit if it is not part of it now — I wonder how our situation compares with EPL norms — privately educated movers and shakers not interested in the SPL?

I think TFOD2.1 were making good money out of EuL hospitality last year — hunch rather than audited accounts but they were filling it.

  7. Do we use hospitality to pay for professional services / outside contractors?

£50K bill to TFOD1.0 = £25K in cash / £25K in hospitality back in the day

Do we use similar payment strategies?

When Thomas Cook ran the official Euro travel packages for Celtic, they threw a few CL tickets our way (their airline was our customer). Just normal seats but free. I got to go to the Man U (Naka) and AC Milan 0-0 games.

My company had a box at Pride Park/Derby County as well. Used it for an offsite once . Pretty small.

The boxes at Croke Park in Dublin are excellent – went with my current company once and it was big and the pints were flowing from the floor staff. Unfortunately, Kildare got panelled by Dublin but still a great day

    1929?

You must have missed at least three major restorations clinging to your basic Googling of dates, not to mention it’s listed building status.

Disco lights don’t count, but the basic stand footprint has been built and rebuilt leaving only the original land the way it was in 1929. The front facade, no doubt not to your satisfaction or taste was completely resdesigned and rebuilt the roof has been rebuilt and upgraded twice

Maybe we’re keeping the money for the players we need as per your every other day musings?

Maybe a museum as per your every other day musings?

  10. Last Sunday was a beautiful Sunny day. We arrived at the Celtic way just before ko time. ( Normally we enter via Gallowgate )

What a beautiful surrounding. What potential for a hub of excellence. The Emirates and Parkers. ( lol )

    We must optimise this potential.

The Main Stand was built in 1929 — the plumbing / services back this up.

The Main Stand is not listed in any way apart from its decrepitness.

The Main Stand roof structure dates from poor 1969 design.

The Main Stand frontage — 1988 design vibe — shames brickies who follow the Green and White.

The Main Stand will be rebuilt just a case of when and what will the budget be.

So apart from that — your post was very informative.

  12. Forget the unbridled joy and optimism in the MSM.

    Huns are a limited side.

Where did their goals come from against PSV? Two absolute gifts from the PSV defence and a needless penalty kick.

Meantime PSV we’re pedestrian last night and as in the first leg missed a couple of clear chances.

In just over a week we will be able to measure their real challenge. A decent showing from us will silence the baying mob and emphasize the difference in our styles of play.

  13. Does anyone know what happened to the review that Gordon Strachan was doing.

Gordon Strachan was the bestest manager Celtic ever had

  20. HOT SMOKED on 25TH AUGUST 2022 12:52 PM

The day after the Huns qualify for CL, we announce a new signing !

*On December 6 we tuned into Scotsport expecting to hear them salivating about the Attila’s invading army, as that’s what we then called them “magnificent” 0-0 tie with the holders Borussia Dortmund.

They had went there with a slim 2-1 lead in the first season of away goals counting double in the lavvy cup, the game had been televised live on STV with Alice Cameron commentating on his heroes.

That night though Morton supporter, yes he actually was, Arthur “sports jaiket“ Montford broke the news of Celtic’s sensational signing of the calvinists international striker Willie Wallace, the big mhan had blown then off the front page again and not for the last time, we have just done it with this signing.

Your answer is to the genuine question GG

    CelticPark/Parkhead.

My reply is taken from an older celt jokingly saying in reply to the younger ones,on Saturday when in the emirates, said in a laugh

Parkers, remind me of heading up the town in my younger days, the middle/upper class friends would have names for the same pubs/clubs we would go to

In early 80s.Could it be that the same language used today is indicative of a more aspiriring middle class fan base?lol

Parkers- Charlie Parkers bar restaurant Royal exchange square-

    Henrys- Henry Afrikas in York.

You can tell am passing time to the draw lol
