No harm to all the saltire flag wavers out there who discover an interest in the game once every couple of years, but I’ve no sympathy for any Celtic fan emotionally involved in the Euros.
It would be great to see Scotland win and do well, but reality should have bitten long before a ball was kicked. If you are Scottish, international tournaments are best enjoyed as a neutral. Watch the greatest players in the game do their stuff without having to worry about results.
The most important news from last night is that Callum McGregor starts his summer rest today, the same week most Scottish Premiership players begin preseason training. Callum’s limbs will have a short recuperation period before ‘the man who plays the most minutes’ goes into battle one more time. Did I really want Callum training and playing for another week? Did you?
Any Celtic fan who wanted our captain’s close season further curtailed should take a hard look at themselves. While we are at it, the sooner the USA and Canada are emptied from the Copa America the better, allowing Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston even a brief rest before it competitive action starts in five weeks. The USA are likely to progress to the quarters, which take place two weeks from now. Despite not only training with, not playing for, the USA, Carter-Vickers will not have ideal preparation for the new campaign.

Morning all.
SFTB
Happy anniversary.
GENE
Happy birthday.

Thanks for your good wishes – might celebrate when the family comes round this evening.
A defeat for engerland tonight would be a nice present.
The other day Paul67 posted about Stadiums, maintenance, improving the spectator experience, and even talked of a stadium fit for the middle of the 21st century. Bit vague but stadium design is not Paul’s forte.
More on that another time, suffice to say it would have been better had Fergus rebuilt the old/main stand first moving it southward toward the London road. Wouldn’t have got a 60,000 all seater so fast though.
But, moves are afoot, which thanks to the efforts of Saint Stivs et al we are now acutely aware. But not in a good way. Segregation is the key word here, and no expense spared to achieve it, but for one club only. No names no packdrill at this point. New gates, new 2.4m high fences, and new exit (entry?) staircases linking the East Stand and Dalriada Road, maybe ready for the new season, aye ready after that. If I am right the Celtic Board are pulling out all the stops to “get the atmosphere back”. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back….

CELTIC MAC, obviously people have different ideas of what constitutes ‘atmosphere’.
The most enjoyable games at Paradise against the tribute act for me have been the recent ones where there have been none of their ‘fans’ present. It meant that I had an easy and enjoyable walk up to the stadium, and also an equally easy and enjoyable exit, was unharrased by police stopping me going my usual way to keep me away from the hordes, and when inside the stadium I did not have to view or vitness their normal bile for most of the match.
I for one think that the atmosphere recently was much, much better – stuff the Hun pound, we don’t need it.

Slightly baffled by reports on the Bernardo situation . With his loan deal we would normally be paying part or all of his wages , so surely we must have been aware of what those wages were ?
It’s either media mischief or something stinks .
And as an addendum, did we not have more seats sold recently as there is no need for security ‘barriers’ of empty seats? So, more seats occupied, more money made, no bile-ridden atmosphere. Win, win for me.

new article posted.
GLEN, here is James Forest’s take on that; seems sensible to me.
