No to Newco Day

342

Despite of the most intense lobbying and doomsday predicting from chief executive, Neil Doncaster, SPL clubs have “overwhelmingly” voted ‘No to Newco’, finally rejecting the bid by one of Charles Green’s Sevco companies to form a team and gain access to the SPL.

This is the conclusion of what only last month looked like an unlikely grass-roots campaign which left several reluctant clubs with little choice but to accept the wishes of their supporters.

Neil Doncaster’s position is compromised after his ‘there is little difference between a CVA and liquidation’ campaign, as he contorted to win support for new rules which would make it easier for him to meet revenue targets.

The right conclusion has been reached.  Well done to all.

Excellent news, well done to all involved in the campaign from the start to make sure the fans of scottish football clubs had a say and were listened to.

    Paul67 AND OTHERS thank you

I know there is still talk of SPL2 or newco in SFA1 but that is tomorrows battle.

For now at least there is some integrity in the game and the bully boy tactics of ‘some’ have not worked

  10. Prepare yourselves for the following guys :

They will not be voted into SFL1.

They will not play in SFL3.

They will consume some other club.

On the plus side Sevco Frankensteins will have no claim, however tenuous, to being Rangers.

Great day, never thought I would see the likes.

Let’s hope the SFL clubs say next week, you didn’t want them, so why should we take them into Div1 they can apply for Div3 if they want.

Perhaps he deserves it,perhaps not,Thats a debate for another day

However he said something in an interview a few years back that always intrigued me.

He was asked why the Celtic board werent spending more money (on the team to compete with Rangers) and he answered “Its always easy to spend OTHER PEOPLES money”

Look where spending other peoples money has landed Rangers

‘Airdrie United were formed in 2002, following the bankruptcy of Airdrieonians.

Airdrieonians had finished runners-up in the Scottish First Division in the 2001–02 season but went out of business with debts approaching £3 million. The collapse of “The Diamonds”, as they were known due to their distinctive kits,[4] created a vacancy in the Scottish Football League (in the Scottish Third Division). Accountant and Airdrieonians fan Jim Ballantyne attempted, with the help of others, to gain entry with a club called “Airdrie United” who were essentially to be a reincarnation of Airdrieonians. Their application however was rejected as the then English Northern Premier League side Gretna were preferred by league members over the new Airdrie United.

Airdrie United then went on to complete a buy-out of the ailing Second Division side Clydebank and with SFL approval the club was relocated to Airdrie, the strips were transformed to resemble that of Airdrieonians, and the name was changed to Airdrie United. While this means that the club is therefore officially a continuation of Clydebank it is almost universally accepted as a reincarnation of Airdrieonians, with Clydebank having been reformed by supporters groups and entering into the West Region Junior League.’
