Nomme Kaljur biggest game of the week is tonight

449

In a little over five hours, Nomme Kalju are in domestic league action, their 20th game of the season.  2018’s champions are level in the battle for third place with tonight’s opponents, Paide, so this will be a competitive encounter.  All things considered, the forthcoming games against Celtic are less important than finishing third and qualifying for Europe next season.

They are five points off second and 10 from the top of the table.  It has been a disappointing campaign for the two-time Estonian champions, the most significant positive being this week’s Champions League qualification win in Macedonia over Shkendija.

Like Kilmarnock, who went down to the other CQN last night, Shkendija are preseason, and having won away, should comfortably have taken care of business in the second leg, but weakness in the other kind of legs is likely to have been their downfall.  Both teams were clearly drained from their first competitive action of the season, leading to bizarre results.

Nomme probably have the lowest economic footprint of any club Celtic have faced in European football (Lincoln Red Imps may just edge them).  Wednesday’s game at Celtic Park will certainly contribute more to the economy than their entire 2018 exploits.  This tie is a fairy tale for Nomme Kalju, who will transform their 2019 economic footprint with TV rights for the home game, and a gift to Celtic, who had the far tougher task of overcoming Rosenborg at the same stage a year ago.

The European draw gods were unkind last season, let’s hope they continue to pitch softly to us for another few rounds.

  1. St J forward misses a one on one with the keeper – Wright is so annoyed he goes to kick the drinks bottles and misses.😅

He makes contact on the second attempt – which his forward didn’t get

In Engerland Wright would have been booked

  2. Any player thinking of joining us who is watching the St J game would not be impressed by the standard of play

  3. Shane has hit a few poor shots last couple of holes. If Fleetwood starts making putts it could get ropey.

  4. Must be pissing off the Orange Bassas seeing all the tri-colours flying at Portrush.

  5. What is the Stars on

Dont know much about the etiquette of these Golf championships but do they fly the flag of the winner over the clubhouse? A tricolour flying over Royal Portrush might not go down well 😜😜

  6. Good luck to big Lowry.

    Deserving champion.

But have not enjoyed the final round of the golf today.

Turned it off as Sky’s coverage is pretty dire as was the challenge of the leaders including Tommy Fleetwood.

I am also sick of hearing how GREAT the course is when it looks nothing amazing or better than any of the Scottish links.

  7. Though I enjoy golf socially at a modest leveL, I’m not a great watcher of the game on TV but really enjoying this one with Shane now looking good for the OPEN.

  8. Majority of sports on the island of Ireland represented by teams drawn from north and south as in golf great pity it’s not the same in football.

I doubt any Scottish course would look any better on this particular day. Not even Gods Golden Acre – Hayston in Kirkintilloch.

Remember Carnoustie 20 years ago? Tiger said the competition got the winner it deserved. Ooft!!

Anyway, I need to go. I’ve got something in my eye!

Just put same thing on WhatsApp there, thats the thing about golf at the highest level, they all know how hard it is to get there, so much mutual respect.

    Doubtful.

Scotland is a beautiful country, but it doesn’t have scenery as spectacular as that Antrim coastal drive, sorry to say.

I’m not really into golf, so you maybe are correct.

    St. Andrews?

    Is Troon a links course?

Flat that. It’s nice on a summer day, nothing out of the ordinary.

40 shades of green in Ireland, it’s true.

That’s because it rains all the time unfortunately, if you want some of the green then you are welcome to take some of the rain.

  12. Certainly was not Tiger that said those nasty words about Carnoustie.

And Love III never did win the open did he?…..crappy thing to say and sums him up.

And as I said in my previous post Lowry was easily the deserving champion.

    He played amazing.

I just don’t think it was such a great Open and definately a really boring final day.

But perhaps most of my negativity comes from the crappy host broadcasters [SKY] who are enough to make me lose my love for TV golf as they do with their dreadful coverage of Scottish football.

Never mind council telly has been showing the ‘netball world’ cup and the ‘anniversary games’ this weekend to make up for losing interest in golf majors.

Sorry my friend but Scotland’s links golf courses really are the envy of the world.

    Nowhere comes close.

    Not even Ireland.

    This fitba’ is magic eh!

What a start to a season of intrigue, shenanigans and subterfuge.

Taking a sneaky drone’s view of progress to date across the top division’s clubs, leaves one with the sense of what might have been, what could be to come and the unanswerable conundrum of “Just what is in a name?”

Anyway, excluding friendlies, European qualifiers and the league cup to date, I think it is worth looking at the table as it stands (thanks to Paul67 for keeping us all up to date with the unpredictable movements that have characterised its already fluctuating ebb and flow – see table to left on desktop….and somewhere else if your on pills or tablets etc.)

Jim Goodwin’s side, rooted to the bottom, will feel that his warnings about recruitment have fallen on deaf ears. Surely only once these matters have at least begun to be addressed, can a fair judgment be made on the Paisley practitioners’ progress.

St Johnstone!! Well, although I am trying to avoid the implications of the League cup, it is fair to say that the Manager’s treatment of Kane left a big question over his man management skills. Then his airshot at the bottle bag was no recommendation for his advice to his strikers and now as they languish in the play off place, it is reasonable to ask the question “is Tommy Wright a modern day Pete Tong?” We may have seen Peak TW!

Ross County of course, as with most new entrants will be delighted with their understated performances to date as they not only keep their head above water, but are right on the tail of a “Rangers” side that may have found its happy milieu, after its stunning performance of winning absolutely nothing last season.

Two things spring to mind here. First, just how happy can ‘Rangers’ be finding themselves being chased all the way by the RCs, and is there a change of name in the offing?

If the latter is correct, then the Ibrox club may see themselves soar to the top of the heap by rechristening themselves as AARangers….do not put it past them….they are really clever you know….according to Traynor!

The mid table imbroglio while it is not unusual, does have a few interesting characteristics that we should not discount lightly.

With Motherwell and Hearts bookending the scrapping of Hibs, Killie and Livi, it is fair to say that Livi have once again proved the early season doubters well off the mark with their dismissal. However as for Killie…..a change of manager and what do we get?

A club who in one moment of utter talentless travesty succeed (that could be last time you hear succeed and Killie in the same sentence) in losing to an itinerant welsh male voice choir with the average age of 68 and piles sticking out so far that they had given them all names, AND included them on the substitute’s bench.

I’m not sure how they can recover their dignity. Perhaps by voting for independence….for Kilmarnock ….and competing with the Isle of Man to gain wild card entry into the Eurovision song contest.

Anyway, it’s at the top where the battle is really hotting up…Celtic lie in a surprisingly lowly second place, sandwiched between the superb starts from both Hamilton and Aberdeen.

Neil Lennon has by all accounts been called in by Peter Lawwell to be firmly told that this attempt for nine in a row is descending into a farce. It has been made clear that should an improvement not be seen before the league actually commences on 3rd August then heads will roll.

Over at New Douglas Park, Brian Rice and the board are lobbying for the end of season split to be brought forward to now.

But it is in Aberdeen that modesty knows no beginning and smugness no ends. With a budget dwarfed by Stewart Milne’s hair transplant treasure chest, Derek McInnes was quoted as saying….”If the league campaign ends as it has started then the difference will be the same in the end as it was in the beginning and let’s be honest, if that’s the way God planned it then that’s the way God wants it to be…who could ask for anything more?”

Chick Young nodded solemnly…but it was then discovered that he had an attack of narcolepsy. However Killie have asked him if he could write the lyrics for their entry next year in Holland, and let’s be honest with a record that is strewn with ‘Nil Points’, they will be right at home.

This league has life in it yet.

    Hail Hail

I’ve only seen a few, so you could be correct.

Ballyliffen in the wilds of Donegal is the most beautiful links course I’ve ever seen.

Bundoran in the same county was mediocre in my humble opinion.

It isn’t a topic that I know much about, so my word isn’t gospel.

Good sport for a wee bet though.

Cricket and baseball isn’t too bad.

    Tennis and rugby can’t stand.

I was in Cyprus in 1999 and missed the Open. I’d been told it was Tiger and have pretty much despised him ever since – cheering every missed putt.

I’ve googled it and eventually found out that you’re right.

I may be personally responsible for the demise of what could have been the greatest golfer ever. Mind you, as Jack Nicklaus is my golfing hero I’ll happily live with it.

  18. Today I’ve watched a bit of

    Women’s cricket

    Women’s netball

    Open Golf

    Scottish football

    Darts

    And now

Widnes v Toronto Wolfpack in championship rugby league

Without really watching any of them in there entirety

If nothing I’m eclectic in my taste

    Roll on the footie season

  19. CQN can appear to be a negative place but that may just be an impression I take because the often strident nature of those posts make them stand out a bit more. Regardless, how can we justify calling the Sevco fans `gullible` when we have so many on here who feel an eight titles in a row , treble treble winning Celtic are not doing very well just because a biased MSSM tell them so?

HS- I think we all agree the team needs a revamp,we have lost our back 4 from last year, give or take, our forward planning is a joke, trying to save a couple of hundred grand by getting a guy on deadline day is unacceptable, we might get a couple in this week to take the heat off Lawwell before the Festival thingy next week, but when you sign a guy at this time of the season, they are usually not match fit,and end up playing the most valuable games of the season not knowing their team mates names,it is a total farce. We do this pantomime every season…..hope you’re well J HH

It’s always the “unhappy” that voice (post) about their unhappiness ..

If content, or even, waiting on the domestic season beginning not many people would post if they held that opinion … CL qualifiers are always a worry especially after Athens … but maybe some potential signings might want to see if CL proper is on the menu … does Neil just take up any signing or does he hedge his bets (& budget) on the right (back) signing ? It’s easy for us to say spend spend spend …. I suppose that’s why Neil & the CEO earn the big bucks :-)
