Nonsense about the uncompetitive league

103

With one game to play before the split, Hearts are safe in the top half of the table, but only due to a vastly better goal difference than Livingston.   The real fight for the top six is between St Mirren (44 points), Hibs (43) and Livi (42).

The relegation fight is just as tight between Dundee United (28), Kilmarnock (28) and Ross County (27).  St Johnstone are also feeling the pressure (32).  There was a bit of chat earlier this week about the SPFL being uncompetitive.  Granted, it spans teams from the Champions League and those from towns with a population of 6,000, but Celtic are fully motived, while Aberdeen are packing them in, having only recently moved into third place.

Hearts occupy the final European slot, one point ahead of St Mirren and two ahead of Hibs.  If you were to design a perfectly competitive league in a small country that can span from the Champions down, you would be pushed to do a better job than this Premiership.  Maybe those complaining would feel different if someone else was 12 points clear at the top.

Today, we meet Paddy McLaughlin, one of the Road to Seville cyclists, who set off from Celtic Park next month, aiming to arrive in Seville for the 20th anniversary of our Uefa Cup Final there.  As you’ll see, Paddy is already familiar with the Spanish sunshine.  I hope you enjoy his interview.  You can support the incredible work they do in our name here.  Thank you.

  1. More great news for Sevco that the course case over their previous strip is continuing. Another bill due to hit?

After the need for their recent share issue, the good times continue to roll.

The major problem with our league is that it is essentially an ‘Old Firm’ construct. It is essentially four Old Firm matches plus add ons. Now, if that means we also have to play Kilmarnock, Livingstone and, previously, Hamilton Accies four times, some on cheap plastic pitches, then that is the price we have to pay. That and Sunday lunchtime kick-offs up in Dingwall. Will be like this until at least 2029, the result of a shameful deal, which mortgaged Scottish football’s future. This is what is known as dancing to the Big Pete Beat. Our host a supporting act. Next season will be more of the same, Celtic dominant but nobody else progressing on or off the field. And that includes Aberdeen, oil capital of Europe for over forty years, who have had more planning applications for a new stadium than Celtic have put in for Almore’s Cafe. No no no. We need to bring more teams, and more importantly more young players into the league, (see the early benefits of and to the Celtic B Team playing at a better level) and a total ban on Sunday football.

Then again as Paul67 stated in reaction to the latest and longest TV deal, it’s the only show in town.

Hoping it has access to Celtic TV or is otherwise an … ahem …. imaginative enterprise.

  7. League competitivness.

The league is less competitive because the big city clubs I.e. heart, hibs and dundee united have all underachiever for the past 40 years. Hibs and hearts built 20k stadiums when 15k attended, Aberdeen looking at building a stadium for 17k when attendance is about that right now. Celtic built a stadium for 60k when 30k attended, spot the difference!!!

The spfl clubs would prefer 4 home games against celtic and sevco than play them less with greater opportunity to challenge, why? Those clubs want the money from t.v rather than actually trying to grow their own and basing it on being better. It is simply awful.

Scotland has one of the poorest young players breaking into first team football compared to most of Europe, why? Because clubs would rather sign proven shite than give kids a chance and actually spend their budget on some quality player.

We allow astrograss pitches in our top flight.

We praise team that spent the whole game defending and low blocking attacking teams.

If clubs wanna see change they should focus on what they can do rather than moan about what celtic do.

The Rangers are a very good team is what we continually read & here from media commentators. Just how good are Celtic if they are rated this highly?

The media wouldn’t say it though.

Can anyone add context to the below article, taken from Glasgow Live. Nobody seems to he reporting what offence he is wanted for. No surprise there anyway:

Glasgow police release CCTV of man after ‘culpable and reckless conduct’ at Rangers v Celtic match

Officers are looking to speak with the man pictured in connection with culpable and reckless conduct that took place at the Rangers v Celtic match at Ibrox in January.

Police Constable Daniel Brady, Greater Glasgow Division, said: “We would urge this male or anyone who knows him to please make contact with us. Why would they ask witnesses to call a confidential hotline without suppling information on what people are suppose to have witnessed.

They’re not asking for witnesses to a specific crime. They’re asking for people who recognise the man to give them a name and address.
