Nothing to lose but their loser labels

901

I’ve been to a few non-Celtic games over the years and always found is striking the different reaction mid-table teams have to a defeat compared to how we react.  There is simply not the expectation that every game has to be won.  For most of the last 40-odd years Celtic have been nip-and-tuck with a direct opponent at the top of the league, so a single defeat can have a significant bearing on league title prospects.

Even when we were not involved in a close league race, the desire to win by an astonishing number of points provided an edge, whereas, back in the 90s, the chasm between Celtic and the top was made increasingly unbearable by each passing defeat.

This season is different.  We’ve dropped 10 points in 10 games but substantial evidence exists that the team is making solid progress, a fact not disputed by the support, even as they left Celtic Park on Saturday.  For most, the distress of defeat has tempered.

We’re two points ahead of three teams at the top of the league, with a game in hand, which makes this the most competitive SPL ever.  The gap between second and second last is just six points, St Mirren who sit second bottom, would be level on points with joint-second St Johnstone had they won the game between these two earlier this month.

All this honest competition has resulted in a rise in average attendances for most clubs during “Armageddon”.  It’s too easy to poke fun at the miscalculations of the SPL and SFA chief executives who believed the game needed a fatally flawed giant in the top flight.  Instead, what it needed was genuine competition, which we have, to a degree.

Hibs, Aberdeen and St Johnstone are all two points from the top of the table while Inverness and Killie are only one win below them.  Can you imagine how good a league this would be without the last remaining over-sized behemoth?

The SPL didn’t need Rangers, in fact, it is a better, more competitive league without them.  The same goes for Celtic.  We are not good for the league and do nothing for Aberdeen, United, Hibs or clubs who want nothing but a sporting chance in the game.  Many of these clubs seem to have Stockholm Syndrome; locked into the belief that they need to be with their tormentors.

If I was writing a blog about any of these clubs I’d tell Celtic to go find themselves some fantasy football league and let the rest of the country get back to a proper sporting endeavour.  They have nothing to lose but their loser labels.

A guy at the work showed me Cawley’s facebook thingy and he states he is a memeber of the Blue Order. Leeds and the Huns are his teams.

Is that Blue Order thing provable? Be interesting if it is the case.

  3. Reid : war criminal; how much justice for him after initiating a war, illegally, with his chum, the snake oil salesman, Blair, and he retires to turn his evil gun eyes on The Green Brigade?

He should be hiding out somewhere, thankful that he’s not in a cell in The Hague awaiting trial for war crimes.

Hypocrite and jumped up scumbag. Just my opinion, which is of no consequence whatsoever. I am just a citizen, therefore merely cannon fodder and to be torn to shreds if I argue with the status quo, or rock the boat in any way whatsoever, or object to thousands being maimed and slaughtered in my name, or slag the twats who have nothing better to do than harass The Green Brigade. Are they a threat to state security? Hardly. So, what’s the problem?

People like Reid are the problem. Embittered and bigoted plods are the problem.

A hypocritical and hysterical Scottish parliament is the problem. Anti-football laws, a la Thatcherism, are the problem. And there’s so much more, but that would just be boring.

Don’t expect any hard-hitting questions of Green from Sky Sports News – a Mickey Mouse channel with many Huns/Sevconians in positions of power.

And Jim Whyte is not one of them – he only reads what he is presented with.

The attention being paid to them by Strathclyde Police has no equal anywhere in the country – and if, as they appear to be, the Celtic board are complicit in all this it is both alarming and despicable.

The criminalisation of our fans and the GB in particular seems to have went to the back burner since the collapse of der hun.

In one hand you have the PLC board who seem intent on “helping the authorities” and our very on manager praising them for their support.

The SNP aided and abetted by strathclydes finest seem to focus on us and no one else……or am I being paranoid?

Independence and a Scottish police force? God help us

  13. Leeds fans, really no time for them.

Went to a pre season friendly at CP in MONs years and they brought a couple of thousand up. Totally shocked at abuse they dished out to the tic fans and their array of songs could be compared to the song choice heard down Govan way.

Good luck Charlie, keep up the good work.

Now I was lunching in the Merchant City today with the good lady on her birthday. Delighted to see the imposing figure of VW striding down the street, not so pleased to see a two camera OB crew following him about whilst a smartly dressed guy accompanied him. No obvious insigna on cameras , so looked like a docu piece on life in Glasgow.

Jim White can put a spin on any interview he does regarding his boyhood heroes, and against us IMO.

I was taking part in the discussion earlier regarding ‘no shows’.

In no way do I criticise those who do not attend ( despite having already paid for seats)

My concern is that the empty seats are a symptom that the club needs to address.

Economic hardship is a huge factor.

The prospect of seeing the Hoops is not the draw it once was for many who are ‘Celtic minded’.

As with your own experience, I never ask for money but am content that someone else has an opportunity to make use of the tickets… However when I offer up my 3 season tickets for games that I, or my sons, can not attend I have also seen a gradual decline in the uptake .

The ‘experience’ of a visit to Celtic Park is not what it once was – and I know that the recipients ( or decliners ) of my tickets are fortunate enough not to be constrained financially ….. but chose not to attend because the prospect of an SPL game is not a better option than what they had already planned , although they would not admit it …. the lure of painting the bathroom , or grocery shopping with the Mrs are all a mystery to me…

  24. Its not just Strathclydes finest either its polis everywhere, I remember a few years back in the departure lounge of an Airport after a game against Celta Vigo when the local constabulary waded into us with batons, not sure what kicked it off but they were walloping a Celtic Supporter who was in a wheel-chair, one or two other lads tried to intervene and plead with them to stop and they just charged and hit anybody who got in their way.

“Jim White can put a spin on any interview he does regarding his boyhood heroes, and against us IMO.”

Aye. He can and he does. But White (not Whyte, as I typed before!)has no power when it comes to TV deals or topics covered on SSN. Recent examples being the ‘oldest Glasgow derby’ (not true for several reasons), the ‘the last time the teams met’ – again not true as Sevco were only formed in the summer, and the constant references to attendances at Ibrox.

The people who run the television operation at SS are all Huns, and so are many of the producers – hence the autocue output.

By the way, Jim White only started supporting the Huns when his old pal Souness became manager. He’s a rugby man.

  26. Believe it or not the huns had a good system ,if you had a ST and couldnt make game, you told the Ticket Office, they re-sold your seat and you got a £10 credit for next years ST.
