Now or never for colt team

119

Celtic and Oldco were talking about putting colt teams into the bottom tier of Scottish football 50 years ago, it is an idea that has persisted since.  The proposition was always financially backed but never convincing enough to gain support from either the lower league clubs, or those closer to the top of the pyramid, who did not want to pass a developmental advantage to a rival.

Newco’s current colt team proposal has the backing of those who want to avoid relegation, and Celtic, and comes at a time of greatest need for money.  It surely has to be now or never for this idea.

The attraction of a colt team for Celtic is clear: have youths compete against experienced adults on a regular basis.  It would also mean fewer players out on loan, where their progress is more difficult to nurture and monitor.

While it makes sense to Celtic, I’m not convinced the economic situation is sufficiently dire at the bottom of the pyramid to see this one voted through.  It would also provide Hearts with an unmerited promotion straight back to the Premiership, and I suspect there’s little goodwill heading in that direction.

  1. Hotel de Paris on

In advance of the Season Ticket (virtual) pricing issued yesterday, we learnt that Celtic had entered into contract talks with Eddie combined with Lenny’s plea that “we need the fans more than ever as we go for the 10. Of course Lenny’s plea should have more accurately read “we need the fan’s money more than ever”. Downing Street would have been proud of such propaganda.

I have previously warned that, in addition to the Board plundering the Profit and Loss account for their own financial benefit, they had allowed the operational cost base to rise to unsustainable levels. The fans are now being asked to pay for the Board’s larceny and failings. I feel sorry for any family group of STH who, in order to “retain” their seats, are being asked to pay over £70 to watch a game on TV – for an unknown period.

Given that it was money already spent I had no intention of applying for a season 19/20 refund. However having witnessed the underhand manner in which Lawwell notified the support of the availability of refunds, both forms now completed and posted. Prior to reaching a decision on renewal I want to know if the Board are sharing some of the pain and to what extent.

  2. Celtic should be ashamed about this whole ticket renewal fiasco . They have made the whole 10 IAR an excuse to act like cold hearted wide boys , lets not beat about the bush here they are cold hearted b@@@@ards . This is on top of deliberately making it difficult to claim a refund on last season and on the back of saying/doing diddly squat about the whole Res 12 charade with the SFA. A lot of fans are genuinely worried about their future , many have earned little or nothing the past few months and some probably dont know when the next pay cheque is coming from . UTTERLY SHAMELESS BAST@@@S
