Ntcham, Sinclair, resting muscles

134

Lots to be pleased about last night.  We rested eight players from the weekend, allowing carbs to accumulate in key muscles ahead of Easter Road on Saturday.  Hibs themselves went the other way in taking 120 minutes + penalties to reach the semi-finals.

I liked the look of Olivier Ntcham in the deep playmaker roll.  Will we see more of Scott Brown resting for Olivier?  Maybe.  They are not the same type of player, Scott gives us something Olivier does not and vice versa, but it would be interesting to discover how this one would play out.

Scott Sinclair loves a goal and he loved last night’s more than most.  Whatever the reason he has not been in the manager’s plans this season, it was great to see him back and making those well-timed runs into the box.

Ideally, Callum McGregor would have been in the North Stand beside me, not playing from the start, but at least he was rested after the hour mark.

Job done as our 29th consecutive domestic cup games was won in some style.  Hibs and Celtic will both have greater priorities than the League Cup when they meet at Hampden in the next round but for different reasons.  Happy with the draw.

Don’t make this party political – could say the same about our travelling support who keep getting the club fined for the same offense – because their Celts are they just naughty Bhoys

  7. Like Gene, I do not think that we should pointing fingers at that other lot because of the use of pyros. As one who suffers from breathless episodes, I am aware of what these things do to others like me who suffer when these things are let off. Sadly there are those among our fans who will not condemn those who cause financial penalties being imposed on our club by UEFA. Strange also that the perpetrators are often seen to have their faces masked. Enough is enough. These people should grow up and realise how much they destroy the good name of our club.

JoBo congrats on the birth of young Aiden Joseph.

    “From etims

A couple of weeks one of the hands at the ranch sent me this, and I can now say I know what he means…

“Imagine a world where a manager has actually embraced modern football techniques.

A world of scientific based backroom staff who tell the manager when players, especially newly brought in players, are not yet ready to throw into the 1st team.

Imagine a manager who goes against his instincts and takes onboard this advice to his personal cost where he is blamed for not playing them in an important UCL qualification game.

A manager who despite this is still willing to embrace this advice and shows patience to gradually introduce these new players using all the information at his disposal.

A manager who is determined to show the doubters that his new approach will bring a new era of dominant football where players can be swapped to maximise results without any noticeable drop in performance.

A manager who is thinking not only going unbeaten domestically but winning every game. ”

I think he may be on about Neil Lennon.’

Unfortunately, for that defence, the facts show a somewhat different picture.

I am assuming the 2 players in question, who were dropped for the 3:4 game with Cluj are Julien and Bolingoli.

Bolingoli debuted in the first round qualifying tie away vs Sarajevo, which we won, on the 9th July, lasting an hour.

He played the full game in the return home leg where we kept a clean sheet. He also started both winning matches vs Nomme Kalju, lasting 90 minutes in the away tie. So he played in all four July ties

At the start of August, he played 90 minutes when we beat St. Johnstone 7:0, 90 minutes in the away tie vs Cluj where we got a creditable draw and 90 minutes away to Well in a 5:2 win on the 10th August.

He had started 7 matches in a row before he was removed to the bench for the Cluj home match on the 13th August (he was not brought on). He was back in the team, playing 90 minutes vs Dunfermline on the 17th August.

My Verdict: The dropping of Bolingoli remains inexplicable and the defence lead by e Tims does not fit the facts.

As for Julien, he was an unused sub in that opening match vs Sarajevo on the 9th July and for the return tie. He remained an unused sub vs Kalju at CP but debuted and played 90 minutes away to the Finns, keeping clean sheet, on the 30th July. He was dropped completely for the St. Johnstone tie but played 16 minutes as a sub for Simunovic in the draw vs Cluj away before completing 90 minutes away to Motherwell, 3 days before the Cluj home tie where, like Bolingoli, he was an unused sub. As with Bolingoli, he played 90 minutes versus Dunfermline, just 4 days after this Cluj match where he was supposedly unready. Both have gone on to play regularly for Celtic.

My Verdict: It is a bit less clear cut with Julien but he had featured in match day squads for over a month before the Cluj home tie but had managed 2 full run outs and a 15 minute sub appearance, all in games we won comfortably. It is a stretch to say he was clearly unready.

I love what Neil Lennon has done so far but Cluj remains an error of judgement for which he is responsible, regardless of who advised him.

    Thanks for the reply …

ETims and facts ,they admit a lot of it is made up waste body water , so yes it most likely was a mistake that Neil should carry the can for . Let’s hope it’s lesson learned .

    ……………………………..

If you check back, I think you’ll find that we did not keep a clean sheet at home to Sarajevo. They equalised at 1-0 with Boli being widely blamed for the goal. I’m not certain but I seem to remember Boli getting injured in Romania against Cluj. Was he not subbed as a result. My memory maybe playing tricks with me over the latter point.

  11. Now, I realise that the audience on here is dwindling with every passing week (only 28 different posters have posted anything on here today) but if an posters or lurkers want to swell the numbers that have chosen their best 3 performers from last night then remember that voting closes at 10. What’s interesting (to sad old me, anyway) is that none of the current Top 5 players featured last night and only 2 from the top 10 did. So a chance for others to get some scores on the doors.

  12. Jobo,

    First of us all congratulations.

Your rules : we have to watch the game before we can vote.

It’s becoming harder to watch Celtic games if there not on tv. Subsequently I have not voted on last two games.

Woohoo I’m home soon and voting will recommence

    Hola,

    its 5 minutes from house.

Great views, loads of green, plenty of sand things, I go up and down it on my bike all the time.

Apologies, the clean sheet claims were supposed to be attached to the 2 Estonian ties.

He was subbed in his debut against Sarajevo away but lasted until near the hour mark.

He was subbed after 37 minutes in the home tie against Kalju but the reason given was sickness not injury.

The main point remains. He was well established in the team before he was suddenly dropped to the bench for the home Cluj tie. Julien had also been with the match day squad since the beginning of July and had got 2 separate 90 minutes under his belt before he too was dropped. And both were fit to play 4 days after missing out on Cluj.

I would guess the dwindling numbers on CQN are attributed to the laborious effort you have to go through to view the pages. Current belter is to login in to refresh the last page. Would guess folk are just pished off and fed up

I played at Mar Hall a couple of years ago. I’m a 25 handicapper so I found it pretty brutal. Not sure anything I can tell you would be of any help. I played it the day after a wedding there and drink had been taken and indeed continued to be taken.

In fact, St Stivs post confirming it has grass and bunkers is probably as helpful as anything I could offer. Except to say it had quite a lot of trees that led to more snookers than one would expect to see at the Crucible!

I just remember it was quite big and not at all suitable for a 25 handicapper.

If it’s any help I would compare it to the Kings Course at Gleneagles as opposed to the Queens.

I hope you fare better than I did!
