Ntcham, Sinclair, resting muscles

134

Lots to be pleased about last night.  We rested eight players from the weekend, allowing carbs to accumulate in key muscles ahead of Easter Road on Saturday.  Hibs themselves went the other way in taking 120 minutes + penalties to reach the semi-finals.

I liked the look of Olivier Ntcham in the deep playmaker roll.  Will we see more of Scott Brown resting for Olivier?  Maybe.  They are not the same type of player, Scott gives us something Olivier does not and vice versa, but it would be interesting to discover how this one would play out.

Scott Sinclair loves a goal and he loved last night’s more than most.  Whatever the reason he has not been in the manager’s plans this season, it was great to see him back and making those well-timed runs into the box.

Ideally, Callum McGregor would have been in the North Stand beside me, not playing from the start, but at least he was rested after the hour mark.

Job done as our 29th consecutive domestic cup games was won in some style.  Hibs and Celtic will both have greater priorities than the League Cup when they meet at Hampden in the next round but for different reasons.  Happy with the draw.

  1. Of course the artists formely known as Rangers will have their usual memory muscle sunday afternoon slot.

Whilst we take the highly unusual saturday evening slot.

You could not make this shit up.

For once could perhaps the champions and reigning holder perhaps get the flagship time slot?

What is the excuse this time?

  2. I don’t think the discussion about team selection is “should we rest players again”

It’s more, what do we do about Ntcham? The guy’s performances off the bench at Ibrox & Rennes and against Thistle were of the highest quality.

It’s the same conundrum that lead NL to play Calmac at LB against Cluj. The midfield of Christie, McGregor, Forrest & Brown have been so consistent. We then have to try and pick between Ntcham, Rogic & Elyounoussi for the 5th spot. So far Mo has been good and the team looks nice and balanced so he’d be my pick.

Shame for Ntcham though. Obviously he’d get time off the bench but he’s been playing well enough to start.

  3. Also: might be helpful to get Leigh Griffiths some minutes off the bench tomorrow. We may have to call upon him vs Cluj due to the Bayo suspension.

Yep. Thats the debate… what actually IS our strongest team right now?

It may take a lot of deliberation but Lenny will decide what it is, and he will go with it.

It’s really hard to say. I have a feeling he will go with the same side that played against Rennes for Hibs and Cluj.

After that, we have Livingston & Ross County. I’d expect some rotation in those games. Not the likes of Frimpong or Morgan but you might see starts for the likes of Rogic, Ntcham, Taylor & Bauer

I suppose my suggestion is open to interpretation. To be completely pedantic, our lead at the top at the following time tomorrow could be as follows:-

    12.29 – 3 points clear

12.30 – as soon as we kick off ‘as it stands’ 4 points clear

Once we take take the lead and go on to win – 6 points clear

3.00 – game kicks off at Ibrox, ‘as it stands’ 5 points clear….

The only definite possibilities are that by 5pm yomorrow, in relation to Sevco, we will be clear by either 6, 5, 3, 1, or on goal difference!

    Back to working…..

Both Celtic and Sevco have EL games the Thursday after the LC semi finals, I hope we are fighting to play on the Saturday and not the Sunday

Certainly possible. May be that certain players considered first team contenders are working up to match fitness(Rogic, Griffiths) and starting them may be too risky, not sure.

Morgan unfortunately through his performances so far has reduced his likelihood of involvement in bigger matches and going by Lennys quotes Frimpong could be challenging for the RB slot very soon.

Will be interesting to see how Taylor is introduced also.

    Bada,

    Unwritten definitions ….!

Ahead = ahead ….no caveats. Current. As it stands.

Clear = no caveats required, – e.g., “with so-and-so a game in hand”.

That’s the way I like it to be. :)
