Ntcham will be wondering, what more for a regular start?

331

After an ominous start, Celtic coped well with PSG’s superstars before they retired at halftime.  The midfield, in particular, looked effective.  Mohamed Elyounoussi, Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham were always comfortable.  The latter must be wondering, what more for a regular starting place?  I would not know how to answer that question.

The first half goals were irritating as inattentiveness contributed to them, taking the shine off what I thought was a really good demonstration of why we should play three at the back.  I know the club are busy with recruitment targets, but the shape of the team Neil Lennon wants to play will feed into details, like how many central defenders we need.  At least two, I suggest.  Nir Bitton does well, especially in possession, but his instincts are not those of a central defender.

It was great to see Tom Rogic back and looking the part.  We missed his presence in midfield for much of 2019, to the extent that my expectations of him have lowered.  It will be interesting to see how his fitness builds from this point onwards.

Hamilton Accies a week on Sunday will be a different challenge, alas.

    Timaloy29 – I hear you.

Most of those released are Halliday types – previous punts or badge kissers earning peanuts.

Defoe probably highest paid player in Scotland (he’ll be 38 in October).

Hagi will command both a seven figure transfer fee and annual salary.

Just a punt (I have no Intel) but I’d be surprised if ANY transfer taking place during Covid-19 does not have a specific assurance written into the player’s contract about deferred wages.

Why are you so sure that Defoe is a top earner? I doubt he had many other suitors. I’d expect his wage to be lower than his previous contract at Bournemouth.

I genuinely think they are going to try and cut the budget. The Hagi fee is the only significant investment.

    Cheers.

BTW – am easily pursauded that silent cost cutting going on at Sevco.

Re: Defoe – obviously am not sighted on full picture – merely joining dots.

Various sources (not usual cut and paste click baiters) previously opined Defoe’s weekly at Bournemouth at £90k.

Similar sources placed his loan wage arrangement as 50/50 viz £45k p/w for Sevco.

(This kind of split not atypical)

Sevco announced his permanent signing in January (when they were a point behind us with a game in hand)

It was a typical headline grabber intended to keep the good news flowing.

I speculate Sevco’s desire to get that done at that time would have made them “easier to deal with”

Conclusion? I reckon he is on between £35-45k per week

Remember – He had option to go back to Bournemouth and sit on his hands for another year at either £90k p/w if they stayed in the Premiership or £45k p/w if relegated.

I have said before most gullible fans in the world, £10 for a your picture printed on cardboard, good of the Herald to offer a link, see below:

The mosaic will remain in place until restrictions are lifted in full and we supporters can return to supporting the team in person.

Uploads cost £10 and the Ibrox club say spaces are limited.
