INTER MILAN new boy Xherdan Shaqiri scored his first goal for Celtic’s Europa League rivals in their 2-0 Coppa Italia win over nine-man Sampdoria.
The Swiss superstar, who joined from Bayern Munich this month, got off the mark after team-mate Mauro Icardi had missed a first-half penalty at the San Siro Stadium.
Sampdoria had Nenad Krsticic sent off after 11 minutes for tripping Shaqiri, but held out for over an hour.
Icardi’s 37th-minute spot-kick was saved by fellow-Argentine Sergio Romero.
Shaqiri broke through in the 71st minute with a powerful finish from Lukas Podolski’s pass.
The visitors had Pawel Wszolek dismissed for a second bookable offence and Icardi atoned for his penalty-kick blunder by sealing the victory two minutes from time.
