Benjamin Nygren was an unused substitute two weeks ago as Celtic fell to St Mirren at Hampden. He opened Celtic’s scoring account in the two subsequent games, against Aberdeen then yesterday at Livingston. That moves him onto 8 league goals for the season, second in the Premiership scorer’s table behind Lawrence Shankland. No one in the league comes anywhere near Nygren in terms of goals per 90 minutes.
For a player who is not a striker, that is a heady position, made all the more impressive considering it is his first season in Scotland and he has been in and out of favour with three managers. Benjamin has become Celtic’s most valuable player.
No matter how many Nygren and his team-mates score, Celtic will struggle in every game if they remain as open to counter-attacks as they currently are. The calamitous defending during the opening minutes at Livingston would prove more costly against better teams. Defending corner kicks also remains a case for concern.
The most hopeful I can be is that Wilfried Nancy is still learning what this squad can give him. If the League Cup Final was played again, Nygren would be first name on the team-sheet. Wilfried is hampered by injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcelo Saracchi and Alistair Johnston, but I expect he will make changes before we visit Motherwell on Tuesday.

caught up on yesterdays games today.
motherwell ability to counter attack is impressive, they play really good accurate forward passes.
they were the better team than 2nd rangers,
we are in for a tough night if we play that high line 3 defending.
tony will be picked out.

i asked yesterday, is anyone not renewing ? for definate ?
is anyone on the waiting list , and not taking up a ticket is offered ?
so hugh keevins said that peter lawell phoned him after he left celtic to thank him?
a guy who hates celtic fans phoned another guy who hates celtic fans?
sycophantic shite would have been getting spoken in large amounts.
I don’t see any clean sheets under Nancy. Fine if we out score the opposition. We certainly are much more potent going forward. However we don’t have a reliable striker and we run out of steam in second halves. Motherwell will take 3 minimum off us if we play like we did yesterday. The huns will score at least two even though they’re hopeless up front. Tony Ralston must be dropped. He can’t play this system. Our right flank is negligently weak under this system. AJ would likely transform that but he’s not going to be fit for weeks.
A change is gonna come. Sam Cooke 1964/Otis Redding 1965.
You are an absolute shower.
AJ months away yet
AJ original injury was reported as not anyway as as bad as thought so comes back plays and pulls up after 15 mins now he is out for months , who’s made the original medical advice

About time
Agree re DM imo, he only plays when in the mood looks totally fed up these days, wether playing left wing or centre forward
2-2 after 10 minutes made yesterday’s the stand out episode of the new reality series, WTAF FC.
The longer we continue to be naked on the right hand side, the more exposed our shortcomings are.
As a minimum, I reckon we need a loanee to play right of defence with AJ out long term. Would some serious height and pace in a technical footballer be asking too much?
And given our current Bonkersball philosophy, we can’t outscore the opposition if we don’t have any scorers. That Nygren is top bhoy far this season simply underlines our very obvious problems up front.
So we need two strikers, both performers, one likely a loanee given the availability issue in January.
And we need a right winger/wing back, preferably one who can use a dead ball to good effect – Griff was the last guy who could deliver goals from a dead ball. That’s shocking.
And we need back up at left back given Saracchi’s injury and KT’s vulnerability.
Our recruitment people have had a looooong time to get their targets lined up at striker and right wing after the summer’s fiasco. Bro Wilf surely knows what he likes when he sees it, so show him what we’ve got and let’s get busy doing deals.
Us customers won’t respond positively to yet another window with more lessons to learn than players to support.
Saint Stivs @ 4:24pm – not the intended audience but, if you have no objections, I’ll respond.
Everyone in the various groups of Celtic fans I know intend to renew.
On the waiting list?
(I’ll refer CQN to my previous skepticism)
Among those various groups … I know of just one guy on the waiting list.
For a good few years he’s worked in England and abroad
… and still does .. so can’t see him picking up one next season.
Anyone whose system concedes two goals in 7 minutes to the worst team in a league we financially over-power should be sacked on the spot.
Callum as player manager would win us this league. This clown won’t.
The MIBs smell blood. We need a street fighter.
p.s. that is not an argument for Callum as player-manager. The point is that ANY competent coach would win us the league this year.
We had three centre-backs on the bench. JSP, Liam Scales, and Dane Murray, who while very good in the air has not looked convincing thus far, but you never know how players develop over time.
The 3 centre backs on the bench are worse than the 3 on the pitch, that’s how poor a squad we have
Gene- had to happen, need to give a chance to staying up
I thought JSP looked decent after he settled down, good in the air ,looks physical, can’t be worse than who’s playing just now
Away to Motherwell there is no chance of the following team but something like it would be a lot more likely to win than the primary school tactics from yesterday.
Keeper
Donovan, Trusty, Scales. KT
Luke, Calmac, Bernardo, Nygren
Yang, Maeda
Nygren with the freedom to play across the park.
Scales can’t play left in the back 3, he’s a liability with the ball at his feet.
According to the tv, KT had the most touches of any player, and caused the first goal with an awful attempted pass across midfield.
That position is going to be important in this formation.
Both Livi goals came from losing the ball in midfield, and to be fair they were cracking strikes.
The defence is getting it in the neck but the midfield, including Cal were posted missing.
I’ve been a shade critical of Tony and Liam in the past but some of the comments on here are comedy classics.
Our record at Fir Park is pretty good so not particularly anxious about this game , Well will keep it on the deck which will suit us.
Pin them back and we will win comfortably 3-1 or perhaps 4-1.

Posters continue to blame our defenders. They are not supermen. KT totally stranded against Roma – expected to tackle the winger and cover the man he passed to, who scored. Totally ridiculous primary school stuff.
Our individual defenders are not Saliba. That is why they play in the SPFL. KT was good enough for Arsenal but can’t work miracles.
But even Saliba would ship goals in this system with no plan.
Support WN if you must, but stop blaming our players for not doing the impossible.
JSP very weak defensively playing in the B team
Bhoys Town
The whole team also needs to adapt to the formation.
KT was good enough but not good enough now
Gene
Re The Vale
Do you think they will be subject of a few years of yo-yo-ing? as they are to good for div3,not good enough for div2,kind of in between stop.
HH
I’ve been on the waiting list for years and haven’t had a sniff, but looking forward to getting one next season.
The team is trying to adapt but I don’t think they understand the formation – if there is one. Remember he was a failure in MLS last season. The players look totally lost. This is not a personnel problem.
As for KT not good enough: he transforms the Scotland team whenever he plays. Another example of blaming a good player for a crap lack of managerial organisation.
Don’t want to sound like Cassandra. If we win against Motherwell and hammer the Huns (they are truly awful) I will be the first to admit that he deserves time. But I can’t see us not shipping goals against both.
Not happy with Tony and Kenny starting.all our problems there.Tony hopeless,Kenny useless. The rest playing good attractive football.
Nervous but the Board got us into this, so only fair to give them the chance to supply their chosen one with the players to make his ideas a success.
Not long to wait.
🙄
An T
I think we’ll spend a couple of seasons in league 2 – we’ve almost been relegated to the National league a couple of times in the not too distant past.
This guy doesn’t have the players available to play this system, so why does he insist on playing it, this is total madness. MON along with Maloney and Fotheringham would have won this league in a canter, I take no pleasure in saying this, but Nancy has to go.
All these so called supporters taking pot shots at the players are out of order, MON was getting more out of these players with his clear cut pragmatic tactics.
Nancy coached at a very low level in French Football and was a pretty average manager in the calm waters of the MLS. He should never have been invited to takeover Celtic, he’s out of his depth, and we are all going to realise that over the next 5 weeks.
I watched the highlights of Motherwell v Them
Motherwell played through the Huns with 4 at the back
They will carve us open at will
There is a fine line between having an ideology of how you want to play
And having the players to play it
Wilf has decided to carry on regardless
At our expense I fear
67ECW
The Huns will run riot down our RS if Tony is there. Gassama too quick for him.Tony. does not stoop crosses coming in.
MMC
Yes you can blame players.Poor. passing, bad,no matter what system you play.Missing. golden chances, one after another, is shocking and cannot be blamed on tacctics..
When we lose the ball from midfield forward the back 3 is totally exposed
