Odsonne and breaking the €10m barrier

320

Odsonne Edouard, who turned 20 in January, is at the pivotal season of his career.  He scored lots of goals at youth level but was heading nowhere at PSG before Brendan Rodgers made the trip to Paris to encourage him to come to Glasgow.

His stats until that point were meagre: one goal in 16 appearances on loan at Toulouse, but Celtic scouted him thoroughly and all were convinced of his potential.  After settling into life in Glasgow, he is beginning to fulfil some of that potential, Sunday’s winning goal being the clearest example.

In only two months Brendan will decide whether to spend €10m on him or let him return to PSG.  For Celtic, this is a serious gamble, but I expect them to take it.

The club have money to spend right now, but being able to spend it as effectively as you would like is another story.  €10m on a striker guarantees you nothing, not even a resale value.  Then consider the contract a €10m striker would want.  The club know well how difficult it is to sign anyone who has clearly demonstrated they are ready to take on the Champions League.  To improve players at this level, we need to graduate them through the final phase of their development here.

If we are to break the €10m barrier, and I think we should, we need to be sure we can improve him and that he has the right attitude to the game.  If Brendan is convinced on these questions, Celtic will exercise their option and sign him on a permanent deal. But even after a year’s trial, it is a huge gamble.

  10. I notice some strange happenings in SFA world and I wonder what they add up to.

Regan and his assistant are gone.

Some weeks ago Peter Lawwell gave an in depth interview to Tom English. He never does this. I5 years at Celtic and he never does these Interviews. Then the content of the Interview had a large section on the SFA and the “good” people who are there. No Mention of Macrae or Petrie. Maxwell was one of the “good” guys.

Doncaster, who has PL backing in the same interview, has now moved into SFA Board. Remember, SPFL had asked the SFA to conduct an enquiry on Rangers. Which Regan turned down flat. Maxwell leaves and is later tipped to become the CEO of the SFA by a separate blog.

Now there is a story that Alastair Johnson has not been given “fit and proper” clearance by the SFA. it seems as Chairman of Oldco he is guilty of “deception”

If I was writing a story, I would think that there has been a bloodless coup and that there is a new power pulling the strings.

Now we know that Celtic Fans were critical of the Celtic Board for doing nothing and co-operating in the Survival myth. Res 12 people were taken into confidence by the club and given evidence that the club were active behind the scenes. We are told that when the Board were constrained by court cases and lack of support and were involved in due process.

Are we seeing a Celtic led changing of the guard as we await the Compliance officers Report. Now we had thought this was going to be a whitewash but maybe we are wrong, maybe the first drafts were explosive and the SFA was clearing house to prepare for condemnation by Oldco Rangers. Censuring of the Old co Directors and basically proving Resolution 12 was correct.

Blame on Craig Whyte, Regan, Ogilvie and all the ones who have departed, also the other Oldco Directors but as Sevco is a different Vehicle then no sanctions applied to them.

Is this wishful thinking? I maybe misreading the signs but the “game is afoot”

    I feel yer laughter :-))))

  13. The news on Alisdair Johnson and connection to UEFA licence tells us SFA are investigating.

Where they are being less than honest in presentation is that Res12 Lawyers in 2015 drew their attention to the date the wtc liability was accepted in March 2011.

Between 2015 and 2016 they got external advice in the “nothing to see here Timmy” variety. I hope Andrew McKinlay is now asking his advisers questions (if of course they exist) before he too abandons ship.

SFA are saying it was statements at CW trial that triggered investigation, which is true, but why wait?

That aside there is a danger of another damage limitation exercise (LNS) taking place, but a deterrent factor is that the statement in RFC Interim Accounts of 1st April 2011 signed by AJ meets a legal definition of fraud and the Comp Off cannot risk being perceived as covering it up.

The containment exercise will be to stop connection between non disclosures in 2011 spilling into 2012 when LNS was being set up.

Set up as in being deceived.

The other interesting aspect is STV going public on the UEFA Licence after 9 months of silence. The last time they and SFA got together on an issue, the Traverso letter was misreported by STV, although the two guys involved have since left both companies.

What we want on the whole affair, including the LNS Commission which is an affront to football and our intelligence , is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth because only the truth will set Scottish football free.

  14. As per the ‘Hun Dookit’ – (Board Room for the SMSM) and AJ (Sick)….

Just caught a bit of the STV report and, WTF, are they looking to get barred as well?

    Or, White Noise Nonsense?

    Good luck

  15. AULDHEID on 14TH MARCH 2018 10:58 PM

I did say someone at Celtic told me the CW trial was a ‘game changer’. The STV article seems to support that view.

Who briefed the guy at STV and why? Are the SFA preparing a narrative that they were ‘duped’ (where they?) or is it a warning shot across the bows of those lobbying against the CO either from within the SFA or out of Ibrox or both?

    Interesting.

  16. Bigbhoy

Sometimes I say the universe is unfolding as it should and you are on the right track.

Celtic kept some cards close to their chest for reasons I can understand, but the court case constraint wasn’t one that Celtic put to Res 12 guys. Quite the reverse in fact. We advised Celtic in Dec 2016 after UEFA made it clear they would no longer deal with us to wait for CW trial and Supreme Court decision. They did and they weren’t the only ones listening.

Going back to the reasons I can understand for keeping cards close to chest, I’ve run the theory by a couple of thoughtful guys who think it has merit.

I’ll expand in due course although if you get your hands on a copy of the last Not The View the essence is captured there.

I’m not on commission from NTV.

Many moons ago you emailed me evidence of the fraud by the SFA/Oldco re DOS and I just wanted to say thank you so much for your knowledge, inquisitive mind and determination to see this thing through. It matters so much to us all but you are at the sharp end and walking the walk so to speak, fair play!

There might be a case SFA were duped in March but in the checkpoints of June and September 2011 that is harder to sustain.

Move on to 2012 and it gets even harder and it is in 2012 the SFA are more vulnerable.

It is here we need to beware attempts at containment but if SPFL get the bit between their teeth the power to act lies with them and FTSFA.

    €11,244k > €5,000k…

  26. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning.

On this day in 1991 the English Court system finally declared that the convictions of the so called “Birmingham Six” were “unsafe” and ordered their release from prison.

The pictures of the six men, who at no time were declared innocent and who were released with the greatest reluctance in one of the most corrupt and tortuous pieces of legal reasoning and establishment chicanery it hs been anyone’s misfortune to witness, were beamed around the world by virtually every news agency on the planet, including the BBC.

Later the same night, Mr Christy Moore, a sometime bank clerk turned folk singer from the Republic of Ireland, was due to appear on Later with Jools Holland which was being shown on BBC 2.

Mr Moore intended to sing a song called Scapegoats which was all about the plight of the Birmingham Six who had been released by the courts that day as mentioned above.

However, with half an hour to go before the broadcast, orders came from “on high” within the BBC saying that any rendition of the song would not be broadcast and that Christy Moore was effectively banned from singing the song on the airwaves.

The song had been recorded by Moore some considerable time before and was widely available to purchase on CD. It had never been banned by the BBC before and at no time had Christy Moore ever been told that there was an issue with the song before this date.

When Chrity Moore performed he explained that he had intended to sing the song but it had been banned by the BBC at the last minute and so he was forced to perform another number.

The original song can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5aLDjaLfLI

This was another example, although a further example was hardly needed, of the state and the establishment doing their utmost to censor all and any suggestion that the British legal system had knowingly stitched up innocent men (innocent Irishmen) for somethimg that they knew they did not do.

The article below, which I wrote a few years ago now, attempts to highlight the lengths to which Government and the English Judiciary, at least, will go protect the establishment and lie to the ordinary people whom they claim to serve.

The piece also highlights the existence of one of the greatest unsung and unspoken of heroes of this or any other age. His name is Alastair Logan and he is someone of such huge courage, moral fibre, and unheralded integrity that his story is worth telling again and again — though his story is nothing in comparison to that of the six, the four and the seven and the very VERY brave witness who endured the worst of treatment for daring to tell the truth and support Carol Richardson’s alibi.

    Scapegoats all!
