Odsonne, Calvin, Cristian and Eboue

Some players always report fit, whether they are or not, but no matter which way Leigh Griffiths views his calf strain from last night, it is likely that Brendan Rodgers will rest the player for Friday’s Premiership game at Hamilton.

With six Celts playing both recent Scotland games, and others performing elsewhere across the Continent, Brendan will surely take advantage of one of the benefits of having a strong squad in a weaker league and rest some limbs.

Patrick Roberts must be itching to get back into competitive action, while Calvin Miller could comfortably deputise for Kieran Tierney, who has already played a lot of football this season. I’d have Cristian Gamboa at right back.

One player who is likely to be rested for Friday is Tom Rogic, who played in Japan last week and is currently halfway through Australia’s home World Cup qualifier against Thailand.

19-year-old Odsonne Edouard will not have met many of this team-mates yet, so you could understand if Brendan Rodgers was cautious about starting him on Friday, but it could also be the perfect opportunity for the player to make a memorable impact.

Who knows, maybe we’ll see Eboue Kouassi pick up the reins in central mid?

  1. Loved reading the CQN tribute to John Thomson by Mark Cameron – well done Mark.

The quote at the beginning could apply to a lot of us around my age where it referenced being told all about it by a Grandad who was at the game. Mine was too and never tired of speaking about the game and the fantastic Johnny Thomson. (he spoke more about Celtic in the 30’s than any other decade and he lived though the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s).

No family party of ours was ever complete until Johnny’s song was belted out.

God rest ye, Johnny Thomson, Prince of Keepers and God rest ye too Papa!

  2. The General Assembly of ECA also nominated the new Executive Board, which will be composed by Josep Maria Bartomeu (Barcelona), Nasser Al-Khelaifi (PSG), Ed Woodward (Manchester United), Peter Lawwell (Celtic Glasgow), Pedro López Jiménez (Real Madrid), Michael Gerlinger (Bayern Munich), Ivan Gazidis (Arsenal), Jean-Michel Aulas (Olympique Lyon), Domingos Oliveira (Benfica), Edwin van der Sar (Ajax), Michael Verschueren (Anderlecht), Dariusz Mioduski (Legia Warsaw) Hørsholt (Copenhagen) & Aki Riihilahti (HJK Helsinki).

One of the reasons we bend over and take it from UEFA…

  3. What Brendan said was ” We COULD have offered 30 million but Man City still would not have sold him” This usual mischief from the media.

  4. Negative park the bus coaching,…..manager of the month.

An average player, if that? Player of the month

Manager of St Johnstone & O’Hallaran

    Never saw that coming.

Please don’t tell me he is a good manager, and the other is a good player, ffs?

Aberdeen manager no have a good month?

    !!BADA BING!!

    Why do you think that?

The ECA is completely independent of Uefa

All these committees, will feed into UEFA,and vice versa IMO HH

  6. One of the reasons we bend over and take it from UEFA…

Awe ffs no another conspiracy? Bet they awe got heated driveways too :))

A day without PL getting in the neck in here will NEVER happen :))

  7. The ECA is a completely different organization. Uefa wasn’t listening to the clubs so they formed an alternative organization.

The board isn’t a committtee and doesn’t feed into Uefa, although they do now have a couple of members on the board of Uefa, who are there to ensure that the clubs are represented and listened to

  8. Season Ticket Holders can now purchase one additional 3 match package, subject to availability. Full details celticfc.net/tickets (I)

  9. ‘But he has been handed another role. Lawwell has now been elected as one of the ECA’s four representatives on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC).’…….

Not having a go at you as I’m sure that you pasted the list from the ECA website or whatever but what is this European obsession with Celtic Glasgow or Glasgow Celtic? I’ve nothing against Glasgow my wee mammy was from there and I went to college there but we are The Celtic Football Club, there’s no GLASGOW Celtic, aaahhh, rant over!

  11. These committees of club directors are in place solely to keep the gravy train on the rails. PL and a couple of others from diddy league teams are there to give the impression of fairness or democracy. Meanwhile FFP will never properly be enforced. Other decisions favouring clubs from the big leagues will be taken.

PL sits tight, not rocking the boat, and hoping for the emergence of a pan European league. Banging on about corruption by the very men you hope will make such decisions is not very politic.

Does any CQNer know of a more ethical, Celtic way, to achieve this goal?

‘But he has been handed another role. Lawwell has now been elected as one of the ECA’s four representatives on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC).’…….

Uefa have a healthy respect for the ECA and as a club from a small association, we are lucky to have such a continuing influential role. PL has been on the ECA executive since 2014 and most of europe’s big hitters are in there too,

Surely better being inside the tent peeing out, and having a say on the way forward for european football ?

  13. Congratulations to Peter Lawwell of Glasgow Celtic Football Club.

He will work alongside some of the most influential figures in the sports as they make decisions on the burning issues within football. The ECA replaced the G-14 Group and the European Football Club Forum. The ECA’s aim is to promote the interests of clubs within the European game.

Yes exactly. He’s there as a representative of the ECA. Uefa realize they have to include the clubs in the decisions they make now, the (big) clubs have so much power now Uefa knows if they don’t then they could go it alone.

  18. Proud of my City.

    Proud of my Country

    Proud of my club

No shame on any of the above the way I see it.

Scotlands Celtic of Glasgow will do me just fine thank you , the rest of you? Fill your boots, all those born in a 30 mile radius of Glasgow, all the players from one country won the European Cup didn’t happen then eh?

These committees of club directors are in place solely to keep the gravy train on the rails.

Actually, the big clubs would like to derail the gravy train and have all the cash for themselves. They don’t want the status quo.

PL and a couple of others from diddy league teams are there to give the impression of fairness or democracy. Meanwhile FFP will never properly be enforced. Other decisions favouring clubs from the big leagues will be taken.

That’s football today for you, if the big clubs really wanted to they could smash European football.

FFP has been a qualified success up until now, there are only a handful of clubs who seem to want to cheat it, almost everyone who has been in breach has been punished, football clubs are no longer running at losses:

“European football clubs have increased profits by €1.5bn over the past two seasons, after sustaining years of heavy losses, as so-called financial fair play rules kicked in.”

Even the big clubs bought into it, unfortunately the usual handful want to cheat it and it’s going to be put under severe pressure now

  24. Re: ‘Glasgow Celtic’.

Never bothered me as an identifier – e.g Boston Celtics

Always brings a smile to the face abroad – climbing the steep roads to the castle in Lisbon, wearing the Hoops, fella walking to shop from delivery van with crate balanced on his shoulder lights up at the green and white – ‘Celtic De Glasgow!’ he shouts, thumb up.

We return the courtesy and he’s yelling back as he enters the shop, ‘Hoolgans de Rangers!’

Laughs all round. And there you have it, the European perception: Glagow Celtic. Hooligan Rangers.
