Odsonne, Calvin, Cristian and Eboue

Some players always report fit, whether they are or not, but no matter which way Leigh Griffiths views his calf strain from last night, it is likely that Brendan Rodgers will rest the player for Friday’s Premiership game at Hamilton.

With six Celts playing both recent Scotland games, and others performing elsewhere across the Continent, Brendan will surely take advantage of one of the benefits of having a strong squad in a weaker league and rest some limbs.

Patrick Roberts must be itching to get back into competitive action, while Calvin Miller could comfortably deputise for Kieran Tierney, who has already played a lot of football this season. I’d have Cristian Gamboa at right back.

One player who is likely to be rested for Friday is Tom Rogic, who played in Japan last week and is currently halfway through Australia’s home World Cup qualifier against Thailand.

19-year-old Odsonne Edouard will not have met many of this team-mates yet, so you could understand if Brendan Rodgers was cautious about starting him on Friday, but it could also be the perfect opportunity for the player to make a memorable impact.

Who knows, maybe we’ll see Eboue Kouassi pick up the reins in central mid?

Moussa Dembele is on target to make his return from injury against Sevco at Ibrox on September 23.

According to a report in The Sun the striker has stepped up his recovery from a hamstring injury and is expected to resume full training this week.

Dembele had a brief run out against Linfield on July 14 but aggravated the hamstring that brought last season to a halt on April 23 at Hampden.

Dembele spent last week working on his rehab at the French FA training centre in Clairefontaine.

£850 (if fully fitted) isn’t too wide of the mark. I’d expect £550 to £600 for a 2nd hand tank unfitted.

  8. Eamon Dunphy reckons Ireland have blown their World Cup chances and he points the finger of blame firmly at the management team.

Ireland face a massive task to make it to Russia following tonight’s 1-0 defeat against Serbia at the Aviva Stadium.

Aleksandar Kolarov smashed home the only goal in the second half to gun down a vastly improved Irish side.

Two late Wales goal in Moldova catapulted them into second spot and now Martin O’Neill’s men must win their final two group games – home to Moldova and away to Wales – and then pray that will be enough to make us one of the top eight runners up from the nine groups.

“We proved for an hour tonight that we have a good team. We have a lot of players who can play and we played the best side in the group and we troubled them,” said Dunphy on RTE after the match.

“Then they got their goal but when you look at the inconsistencies in the management team’s choices between last Saturday when we were outplayed by Georgia and you look at the difference there is tonight.

“The changes in selection, the changes in style, changes in the role of James McClean for example. He played in midfield tonight which I think is crazy.

“Robbie Brady, we can conclusively say, is a much better left full for Ireland and Burnley, he didn’t play well again in midfield.

“Shane Duffy comes out with great credit from the games, he has grown up and marshaled the defence. We missed Seamus Coleman so much.

“Wes Hoolahan should always play when he is available. If he had played against Georgia for one hour on Saturday, we would have got three points.

“It’s a sad night because I don’t think we will get to the World Cup. I think the management have questions to answer.

“David Meyler was rightly man-of-the-match. David Meyler has been sitting on the bench for a long time waiting for a chance to go into that slot where Glenn Whelan is.

“There are many questions you could ask our management team and I don’t know the answers.

“It’s not the players who will cost us our place at the World Cup, it’s the management.”

Right across from your new house, was a pub called the “ENTERPRISE BAR” in the 1970’s I drank in there very often with my soon to be Hun in laws.

I married into that lot in 1977, and I actually held my stag night in that pub.

( NOTE…..That proved to be my FIRST Stag night, as I later remarried in 1999 to another Burd)

    Thats well over also.

Small world, aye, but I wouldn’t like to paint it, as the saying goes!

As I said, I was well treated by the workers there, but, being a youth from Lanarkshire, and with the reputation Easterhouse had, I was well-pleased I didn’t have to hang about at the bus stop too often after work, thanks to the lifts I was offered.

I had to make a very quick escape from a bus stop at Tollcross late one night, when some friendly locals requested that I display the contents of the carrier bag I had with me. Given that I had just been given the souvenir of a letter-opener from Spain, following the holiday the girl I was visiting had just had there, I politely declined, as I didn’t envisage an explanation succeeding.

I was fit back then, and could shift, but I surprised myself just how quickly I made it back to her house, unscathed.
