Celtic’s objective for today is to add a striker, who is happy to take his chances at Celtic behind Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele. The target (as you will know) is 19-year-old France youth international Odsonne Edouard.
We have agreed a loan with Celtic having the option to buy for an eight-figure sum. There remains a complication between player and current club, Paris Saint-Germain, which all parties are hoping will resolve, but this one has the potential to go to the wire.
Odsonne is regarded by manager, scouts and coaches at Celtic as an absolute star. He made four starts for Toulouse in Ligue 1 last season before off-field matters got in the way (which I’ll not trivialise, but we’ll deal with at a later date). He is a player who needs to leave Paris for new influences in a fresh environment. The move to Celtic could be the break he needs.
The initial loan period gives the player a chance to resolve any legacy issues before Celtic commit to breaking transfer records.
The manager has been impressed by Odsonne’s attitude thus far. He knows he would be the junior party in a three-man attacking roster, and that his objectives for the season is to press those above him.
In the coming weeks, our fit 19-year-old central defender will be joined by three more-senior team-mates. Competing with Kristoffer Ajer for fourth spot is only likely to be attractive to another teenage prodigy. I don’t expect movement on this front.
At this stage of the window, the chances of anyone near the first team being allowed to leave are reducing, but there are a lot of worried teams with >£100m of TV money out there. Enough to fund transfer fees and provide wages to unsettle the most faithful of stalwarts.
There will be calls made, you can be sure of that. I know some people at Celtic Park who will be happy people after 23:00 tonight, when the window in England closes, without any of our players being unsettled.
Enjoy your day, let’s hope Odsonne’s details are sorted and no one waves £50k per week-type money before our players.

Why the strange carriage returns in your post, if you don’t mind me asking?
For example –
“…had to bring in a
central defender to
play beside Jozo…”
Did you type that post in another software package and paste it into the blog?

The sad reality is that we are now witnessing just how financially capped Celtic are due to plying their trade in Scotland. I know it’s not popular to say this, but the Board have done incredibly well to have the Club where it’s at. It is getting tougher each year and the scary thought is, there will come a time where we simply cannot compete – then what – Scottish football goes part-time?
The truth’s usually to be found somewhere in the middle.Just saying.

That sweet spot between hysteria and pandering ye mean:))

For us, I think we will continue to do well by growing our own – mostly we have around half Scottish boys in our team.
Problem is, as you suggest, if everyone else goes part-time – who do we play against?

As much as I like James Forrest, I don’t think we will hear a song about him unless he develops/incorporates a bit of gallousness or bravery into his play.
I’ve stuck up for him in conversations before and will continue to do so as I think he is unfairly criticised at times and underrated.
I think McGeady,Maloney were given similar treatment and my old man told me Jinky got a but of stick sometimes when things weren’t going well.

For a manager that wants a small squad, ideally of 16 – 18 supplemented by the youth team, that is a lot of players. The plus side of a small squad is you concentrate resources on quality. As Corkcelt said this morning the downside is it leaves you vulnerable to injuries.
I thought the priority for the summer window was replacing Roberts, and getting a centre back better than what we have. We signed one, and he failed a medical. I would be disappointed if we don’t sign one today, but we should only do so if he is a first team player(or a loan). A squad filler who we’ll be looking to put out on loan or pay off next summer is no use, I’d rather go with what he have.
Is it a scary thought to go into the PSG game with Bitton at centre back? Of course. But if we do he’ll get my full support. In the meantime I’ll hope that Boyata and / or Sviatchenko are back in contention for the Hamilton game.
Keeping the invincible’s together and adding to the squad is a good window. We’ve been unlucky with injuries at one position. It happens. We’ll deal with it.
STARRY…
Spot on mhate.
It is true that Jinky got stick. But nothing nearly as much as Big Yogi or Stevie Chalmers, if memory serves.
For some odd reason, Celtic supporters always seem to have to have a scapegoat. Tommy Callaghan was another.

One thing that you can rely on in CQN is expectations management.
Its a very old management technique to portray the very worst thing that can happen (knowing that it never will) and making a position which isn’t great appear to be great as a result of the relief.
So it is with Celtic and CQN. As per usual you are “scared” with the prospect of losing our “stars” and it will therefore be declared as a triumph of unimaginable proportions when we don’t actually sell anyone (and we don’t have to).
The fact that we have, once again, underperformed and not delivered in the transfer market, will, they hope, be met more with relief than anger.
Celtic are just doing what celtic do – failing to strengthen from a position of strength. We never kick on. Why? because its just not about football. Its only about money.
This latest nonsense about a young French striker is, dare I say, a squirrel. It wont happen. But look its all too hard and difficult (please ignore the fact that other clubs seem to manage it).
So by my reckoning we really haven’t spent anything like the money from now two champions league campaigns to compete at that level.
I wonder what Brendan will think tonight?

I come on CQN, to call you a cabbage. You Cabbage:)
The boo hoo squad arrive with 11 hours to go. Sadly predictable.
If we finalise Eduardo deal then we are stronger than we were this time last year, and stronger than when Scott Brown lifted the Scottish Cup and ended an invincible treble season.
And hey presto you’re back in the darkened room…
Anybody heard the new The Mythical Pansterics single,Transfer Windae Flapperamas?
If you can’t buy it try for a loan.

The other thing that can be relied upon is for Neganon to find some dark clouds in what is an otherwise bright and clear sky.
I’ve no doubt your a Celtic fan, Neg, but you’re the miserableist, grumpiest, unhappy Celtic fan I’ve never met.
Who do you think we should have signed ?
PCS
Strange thing is other than put the ball in the pokey, playing as a winger is the next most difficult position to play IMO especially for Celtic playing against packed defenses every week.
Folk seem to understand how difficult the striker role is but don’t appreciate/make allowances for how difficult it is playing wide .
Touchline on one side and a fullback with yellow card immunity steaming in to challenge at any moments notice.
They could try a trick or come inside but run the risk of upsetting the moaners n groaners who have probably never kicked a ball in their life, eejits!
Appols, rant over.

I can’t think of a worse combination, to be on this blog, signing deadline day and a forthcoming International break. We’re doomed ah tell ya, doomed.
Chris Davies has revealed that Celtic are still working on bringing in new faces before the transfer window closes.
The hoops have until midnight tonight to add to their squad with French striker Odsonne Edouard expected to complete a loan deal later today.
On Monday the return of Patrick Roberts from Manchester City gave the fans a boost with supporters hoping for further business during the course of today.
Speaking to the club website Davies said: “It’s quite late on the window but we are still working away on one or two possibilities but there is nothing definitive in terms of the number of players.
“The club are still working hard to see if there is anything more we can do and if there is something right for us, it will be done.”

HH fella.
Ye see, I don’t think Brendan will be too bothered tonight.
Know why ?
Cause its a game of – “Shaft” – and, Brendan is a major player.
Brendan has been brought in by the slippery PLC, to keep the stadium full and, crush any notion of fan rebellion within Celtic Park, when it becomes apparent that, hee haw will happen to the huns, after 25 years of Murray Mibbery and,Celtic PLC, through the presence of Brendan at the club, will expect to get away with – “Well, we did all we could so, now we all move on, etc….blah, blah!!!”
…..even the dugs in the street have sussed it !!!
But, then again, the dugs in the streets don’t wear, Scooby Doo! pyjamas ;-)
