Of course the game goes on

245

I should have been home yesterday, will be lucky to get home tomorrow.  Two cancelled flights and one cancelled train.  Been on the road for 12 hours, seen two airports, lots of railway stations and still can’t get to Scotland.

I now have to accept I will not make the Scottish Cup tie tomorrow, but if the roads through Glasgow are as clear as I hear, I never had a thought the game would be cancelled. If stadiums, access areas and trunk roads are clear, football will go ahead at all Scottish Cup games this weekend.  No matter how inconvenient it is for me.

Morton chairman Warren Hawke wants the game postponed to protect supporters’ “life and limb”.  It is nothing to do with the fact his players have not run the length of themselves all week.  Meanwhile Kilmarnock fans will travel to Aberdeen, confident in returning with approximately the same limb count.

You can be 100% sure Brendan Rodgers wants the game to go ahead.  He wants Morton now and doesn’t want a second game cancelled before Ibrox.  That being the case, it will happen.

This is a tough one to sit out.  The Scottish Cup means lots, this season’s more than most, but thems the breaks.

Part of the sentence is understood,as my old English teacher used to say. Naw,I didn’t understand that either.

    You on the bus today?

Upon seeing this morning’s Daily Record front page the club were shocked to see an incredibly damaging and misleading headline regarding the Financial Statements for the year ending May 2017 which were released yesterday.

To claim the club are “on the brink” is completely untrue and a bizarre spin on the statement released along with the accounts.

The Board of Directors would like to reaffirm their commitment to the club which was highlighted in yesterday’s statement.

We would also like to put on record that due to this ridiculous front page claim we will no longer welcome any reporters from the Daily Record or their sister publications to Dens Park for press conferences or to report on matches.

  5. I am beginning to think Paddy might start today. Strangely, although I have always been a fan of Forrest, I am more confident when Roberts is playing.

No, not going today ( not because of the weather).

Re your old English teacher, he was probably trying to be positive. We were encouraged to make a positive remark before a negative comment. eg You have spelled your name correctly and that`s it. Ya useless bassa.

As a bit of a wordsmith now, though, that old teacher would be proud of you.

Edinburgh to Bellgrove trains running every half hour and stopping at extra stations along the way so wrapping up well and hoping the car will make the first 50 yards of the mile and a half to Edinburgh Park Station.

Well done,Dundee. But I wonder how much worse their position would be without the Celtic European windfall in the last two seasons.

Seems we could have been keeping some clubs off life-support.

I’ll be interested to hear where everybody parks!

If that distant pub is 400 miles north of Swindon, I could maybe meet you there to watch the game.

Rarely will a Moderator comment on deleted posts but in the instance I feel I have too. Your initial post was disrespectful to say the least. That post and subsequent posts of yours deleted as have those of those that responded.

I am all for posting your opinion but you crossed the line.

Take this as a yellow, I have informed P67, any repeat I will ask him to suspend your account.

“Jean, haven’t seen you for ages. You’re looking great! I wouldn’t have recognised you….if it wasn’t for the coat.”

  21. Nothing but admiration for those doing whatever it takes to get to Celtic Park today, and understanding for those who want to go but can’t, whatever the reason is.

Nothing but scorn for ‘people’ who criticise and hurl insults at those who make the choice to go to Celtic Park.

    Hot Smoked,

Is the Arbroath Emerald bus a different one to the Aberdeen Emerald bus ?

I miss the days travelling on a bus full of Celtic fans to games.

Does anyone else think that the Daily Rangers story about Dundee, and the inevitable denial that a £350k loss spells doom, gloom and the end of the road, is no more than a softener for an inevitable future story about another club being in a far more perilous financial position and continuing to trade from a loss making position?

  23. I’m snowed in since 4pm Thursday and it looks almost certain that I won’t get out today. A much younger fitter neighbour tried an hour ago and his abandoned car is a testimony to his misplaced optimism.

The only thing that is keeping me sane at the moment is the thought that I will be watching Celtic play in a few hours time.

If given the chance would I brave the cold to sit & watch the Celtic play today, you could bet your life I would.

  24. When most of the pre match discussion is about travel and weather conditions then we have a quandary. Has the influence of Sky TV superseded every other criteria especially when one of the teams has expressed safety concerns on behalf of the travelling supporters.

From a football perspective we want Celtic to hopefully put this game to bed . We all want that on this blog ( I think )

The final judge on whether the game should have been played will be the attendance at the game. It will also be interesting to gauge tickets sold to actual attendance.

Anyway COYBIG and a mega HH to all who will make the Herculean effort today. Football without fans is nothing.

  25. Good morning from an almost balmy -1degC – absolute respect for the fans who go to the game today – especially those from the Emerald Isle

Women eh? and their put downs.

This is a true one….which could be used in a sketch show. Related to me by my mother in law.

The scene: an antiques / trinkets shop in Ross-shire. What I usually describe as tat for tourists.

Anyway, a customer, a local woman home from the middle east where her husband had an oil job, covered in gold jewelry, says to the shopkeeper….another woman about the same age.

” I see you’ve only got silver jewelry. I couldn’t wear anything other than 18carat gold.”

Her compatriot, the shopkeeper, says in her reassuring smiley Ross-shire accent:

“Yes, Anne,………but it looks nice on the young ones.”

  28. Be safe everyone going to and from the game.

I’m glad the game is on from a selfish point of view I get to see the Hoops but God I wish I was walking up the Gallowgate with the double thermals on.

    TV is no substitute.

Mon The Hoops let’s hope we see Marvin today..
