Of course the game goes on

245

I should have been home yesterday, will be lucky to get home tomorrow.  Two cancelled flights and one cancelled train.  Been on the road for 12 hours, seen two airports, lots of railway stations and still can’t get to Scotland.

I now have to accept I will not make the Scottish Cup tie tomorrow, but if the roads through Glasgow are as clear as I hear, I never had a thought the game would be cancelled. If stadiums, access areas and trunk roads are clear, football will go ahead at all Scottish Cup games this weekend.  No matter how inconvenient it is for me.

Morton chairman Warren Hawke wants the game postponed to protect supporters’ “life and limb”.  It is nothing to do with the fact his players have not run the length of themselves all week.  Meanwhile Kilmarnock fans will travel to Aberdeen, confident in returning with approximately the same limb count.

You can be 100% sure Brendan Rodgers wants the game to go ahead.  He wants Morton now and doesn’t want a second game cancelled before Ibrox.  That being the case, it will happen.

This is a tough one to sit out.  The Scottish Cup means lots, this season’s more than most, but thems the breaks.

Boiled down and stripped of legalese the shameful guarantee states: ‘The SPL hereby undertakes solely and exclusively to Sevco and to no other Person . . . that the SPL shall not . . . take or commence disciplinary proceedings against Sevco . . . in respect of any EBT Payments and Arrangements’.

Sevco are old Rangers according to Doncaster so yes they can be punished if this is the route he wants to go down

    =========/===

Legally Sevco are not old Rangers, otherwise they would be liable for RFC liabilities which were shed with liquidation. Doncaster is applying a football rule indulging in sophistry.

That side letter saves Sevco being financially penalised for sins of Rangers.

However my reading of the 5 Way Craig Whyte acts is that sanctions can be applied to old Rangers.

    I’m having that checked.

    Tuesday 3rd

I’m feeling exceptionally well today. (It’s only the third day, I know, but all the same I’m feeling great.) I had a visit this morning with two reporters, David Beresford of The Guardian and Brendan O Cathaoir of The Irish Times. Couldn’t quite get my flow of thoughts together. I could have said more in a better fashion.

    63 kgs today, so what?

A priest was in. Feel he’s weighing me up psychologically for a later date. If I’m wrong I’m sorry — but I think he is. So I tried to defuse any notion of that tonight. I think he may have taken the point. But whether he accepts it, will be seen. He could not defend my onslaught on Bishop Daly — or at least he did not try.

I wrote some notes to my mother and to Mary Doyle in Armagh; and will write more tomorrow. The boys are now all washed. But I didn’t get washed today. They were still trying to get men their first wash.

I smoked some ‘bog-rolled blows’ today, the luxury of the Block!

They put a table in my cell and are now placing my food on it in front of my eyes. I honestly couldn’t give a damn if they placed it on my knee. They still keep asking me silly questions like, ‘Are you still not eating?’

I never got started on my poem today, but I’ll maybe do it tomorrow. The trouble is I now have more ideas.

Got papers and a book today. The book was Kipling’s Short Stories with an introduction of some length by W. Somerset Maugham. I took an instant dislike to the latter on reading his comment on the Irish people during Kipling’s prime as a writer: ‘It is true that the Irish were making a nuisance of themselves.’ Damned too bad, I thought, and bigger the pity it wasn’t a bigger nuisance! Kipling I know of, and his Ulster connection. I’ll read his stories tomorrow.

Ag rá an phaidrín faoi dhó achan lá atá na buachaillí anois. Níl aon rud eile agam anocht. Sin sin. (Translated this reads as follows: The boys are now saying the rosary twice every day. I have nothing else tonight. That’s all.)

Philvis-style Thumbs-up to you-and I hope you need those tyre socks at roughly the date you mentioned!!!

  8. I will not be in the ground today as I am boycotting the 2 domestic cup competitions until things are sorted governance wise.

I also boycott Sky and cancelled my package with them about 2 years ago, mainly on the principle that the ridiculous sums of money ploughed into English football is the real reason that Scottish teams find it nigh on impossible to attract or keep players whenever money is the deciding factor.

However, my sister does not boycott Sky and as she is but a 35 minute walk away and would be watching the match alone, I feel it’s only right, as her wee brother, to keep her company and also provide the half time pies.

My bhoy and his wife will be in the crowd. Going to these games increases their chances of tickets for the later rounds (Celtic winning today will further increase those chances!). But I don’t think there’ll be more than 15,000 in attendance, mostly due to the weather but partly due to their current views on attending cup games.

Glad the team and returning players are getting game time as 2 weeks without a match before Glasgow derby not ideal. We need players sharp and Brendan with options.

Be good if the Daily Record could get the well deserved ban from every club in Scotland.

They’ll blame ‘ free lance ‘on the story like they normally do, but won’t take editorial responsibility.

Scotland needs a strong Rainjurz and woe betide any other club that has a sniff of financial trouble, cos look what happened to our Rainjurz.

The levels of everyday Sevco desperation because they think they may have marginally closed some kind of points gap is presently off the radar, somewhere high above China?
