Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

    STARRY PLOUGH

About 20 years ago in London, less than six months into a new job, they fired me.

I had brought in too much new business, their terms to buyers were more relaxed than those from their suppliers and the bank wouldn’t increase the working overdraft.

So he should think himself lucky!!!

  2. themightyquinn on

I’ve always wished for more from Georgios.

If he leaves and isn’t replaced with another (better?) target man then hell mend us.

Life as a Tim is becoming all too predictable. New blood is a must. Players who will get the fans on their feet. We all know that. We’ve been needing it for a while.

Now let us all say the transfer window prayer.

Our Peter, Who art in Boardroom, hollowed out be Thy name; Thy chequebook come, Thy supporters will come back in droves to Paradise. Give us this day our transfer rumours; and forgive us our smokebombs as we forgive those who will buy players for us; and lead us not into stagnation, and deliver us from “Ra Peepul”. Amen.

  3. Sammi to me had simalarities to Agathe …… although not everyones favourite…..on Euro nights most people would ask is”agathe playing” was always a relief if he was on the team sheet……sometimes. guys like this are irreplaceable…..might take years….but Sammi and Didier were the guys who got people out there seats….they were winners

Starry Plough f o. I agree but we dont know what he has been offered we only have the MSM saying his new contract offer was a wage cut to him I am not sure I trust that source of information. However, if it is correct it is a disgrace. H.H.

It’s my opinion, you think it’s over the top fine by me, I think as I said it’s all smoke and mirrors, and why do we have to wait for the SFA, as you all know I am all for the board, NL and the team, and PL, as far as I am concerned there has been no movement in the last 6 months Celtic have been asking questions on this, to me that is as redicules as DOUGIE DOUGIE getting back in a cushy wee number at Hampden, the ball WAS dropped and until something constructive comes from Celtic on this matter, then as far as I am concerned it is dead in the water, not pandering to the guys who dropped the ball doesent make me OTT, it’s my opinion and I am leaving myself open here and standing by what I say, but at least I am making a stand, more than I can say for the ball carriers on resolution 12, sorry to many secretes for me, all this wait, wait wait, how long? Why? I will move on from it now, while the resolution states in idol, this will all end in tears, trust me, any lurking Huns in here GIRUY.

Aye Joe I try not to live in “what if land” and true the DR is no source of info that any of us should be trusting and if the Big Man wants to go so be it I respect his decision but I am wary of too many of us shouting take the money every time one of our players is linked with someone, 2 mil is nothing these days and as we have seen two mil has bought us lot of players who sit on the bench!!

I won’t see many folks who are sitting at our tables until after the final day for payment so I shall send a cheque as payment and collect from everyone without the rushing about at the end.

Hibs V Hearts game …..to die for.

Fierce rivalry and a dash of the unsavoury.

Largest crowd in 20 years gives the lie to assertions that the huns are “sine qua non”.

Terry Butcher might well prove to be a formidable opponent as manager at Easter Road.

    Sounds good to me.

    ………………………………………

Have to agree with the effort, the excitement and the atmosphere but the standard of football was embarrassing. Players constantly failed to find team mates with passes and often passed the ball straight out of play. There was very little skill on show although there were some good players on the pitch – mainly in maroon sadly. Ryan Stevenson is a good professional and there are some talented young players in the Hearts team. I was glad that Hibs got such a big crowd and , like you, I’m sure that Butcher will turn Hibs into a very difficult team to beat over the next few seasons. He is a very good manager and, Hibs made a very wise choice in appointing him.

Thanks for posting that Naka clip. He is awesome at free kicks. I remember seeing the one he did putting the ball through the open window of the passing bus.

Listen, and please do not take this wrong, I have no interest in meeting you or any one else involved with resolution 12, if I say I know what is going on then that’s what I mean, I honestly do not get it, what can you say to me away from here that you can not say in here, that I have a problem with, people gave you there proxy you have them to answer to not me, and those people are still waiting for an answer, or are they not?

  16. Great to be back.Thought we were great on Sunday.Snappier, more forward passes.Commons,Broony,Charlie, all excellent.Broony gets better every game.Controls everything we do.Still underrated by some.

Well it looks like I am off to Antalya tomorrow.A few tims down there been on the phone saying to come, they will get the tickets.£40 odd for the two days.Wont be many locals going at those prices.Weather should be very nice, forecasts saying 18 degrees,so a wee change for the players.

No idea who we will buy, like most, but as long as it makes us stronger,I will have no complaints.Oh,just a word on the transport to Antalya, beautiful place.A 4 hour journey on a 5 star coach(real 5 star),hostess, free refreshments etc, costs £15 one way.National Express it aint.

I was happy to support Res.12.

I am happy with the progress it is making.

I don’t expect any quick solution, or for the Hampden mandarins to admit their wrongdoings & promise to make restitution.

    It takes TIME.

The first step has been taken.

Your contempt for those who supported Resolution 12 is clear to all.

Yet,had it not been on the AGM agenda,no question on SFA actions over the Euro licence, etc, would ever have been likely.

So,here goes. I’m not a lurking hun,I want answers as do those behind the resolution.

Any Celtic supporter who doesn’t want those questions answered ought to get a grip.

If the huns were granted a licence wrongly, our club were robbed. Simple as that.

Why would you want to ridicule people, fellow fans, who are trying to prove that?

  21. Auldheid

Oh and on the calling me ignorant, if it’s name calling you are dragging your self down to, then go right ahead, I know when people go that low, I have hit a nerve and they don’t have answers, would you honestly have a conversation with someone face to face and call them ignorant? Because that’s more or less what you did there in 21cent. Terms, that’s the second ball you have dropped my friend, to differ in opinions that I agree goes on all the time here, but to think that you are above some one and call them ignorant only makes my case solid, that the wrong guys got the ball, and I don’t care how many back you up in here, that’s my opinion, ignorant as you think I am, I do have one, to all the lurking Huns , GIRUY.

  22. DeniaBhoy in awe of wee Oscar's Courage on

A player who now contributes only periodically in domestic games and who is easy to mark out of CL games serves little purpose in the team. Not Sammi’s fault that our 2012 tactics were painfully exposed in 2013 by CL opposition – the blame lies elsewhere for having no alternative, no class around him to provide us the chance to mix it up a bit.

He looked an uninterested spectator in the final two games against Milan and Barcelona, time for a fresh challenge for the big man and I hope he succeeds wherever that may be.

  23. Four GreenFields.

No rush and know problems, I’ll see you somewhere before March 14th.

I only have you down for one ticket, is that correct?.

  24. Having gifted my shareholding to my son I couldn’t support Canalamar’s resolution but I did persuade him, and his cousin to do so. Neither has ever taken an active interest in AGM matters and give me carte blanche in my advice and when I told them to trust Canalamar’s & Morrisey’s judgement they agreed.

I have placed my trust in those dealing with the resolution and see no reason to change my opinion until the movers tell me otherwise.

  25. I personally like the MSM bumming up the kids at Dundee Unt.Or Aberdeen, even Motherwell.Great for these clubs. The spectre of Armageddon we were told was coming, fading now to memory. The competition for second place now fierce.Lets hope these teams, and I include Hibs in this, great for them to have Butcher as manager, continue in this vein. The huns,if they do get into the SPL will find it a very different place to the one their old, dead team left.More power to them.

  26. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Bobby Murdoch c u w. What concerns me is this all happened nearly two years ago are you saying if Celtic were not happy and wanted to question the SFA in order to see everything was above board they could not have appointed a legal team who would have an answer one way or the other by now?Or where Celtic complicit and quite happy for financial reason to accept the SFAs decision on the Rangers and resolution 12 is a niggling thorn which they have pushed into a back water and over time will become less important to the resolution makers ? I dont think there is any clarity in the matter and the fact Celtic have never issued a statement on the matter makes me wonder. H.H.

  27. Bmcw

If your not a lurking Hun, then it shouldn’t bother you if I post that or not, resolution 12 didn’t get past go, your not reading my post right, I wanted answers before resolution 12 came out and knew Celtic where on it, as they had more or less said the where, this is where it gets cloudy, what did Celtic say to them at the meeting? Why the secrets? They where all over the board, and PL before they had there meeting, and then BOOM! That was it, someone stands up at the AGM has a Craig Whyte moment reads out a 30 second slip of paper, nothing going on here, it’s all looked after? what was al the rally round the flag Bhoys we are going the whole way here, you and others might be happy with it, naaaaaa, not me, time will tell and prove me wrong, that would be a possibility as in the thoughts of the ball carriers I am ignorant, hmmmm? To all lurking Huns GIRUY.
