Oft-triangulated Georgios

763

It’s good to be back.  A power outage at our datacentre on Saturday caused servers to crash and subsequent database problems.  Our thanks to Andrew in Belfast for his invaluable help, again…

Trying hard to ignore speculation of various players coming our way, plenty of time for that later in the month, although I will add a note of caution.  The fact that a journalist gets confirmation from Neil Lennon that he is able to sign a £6m player does not constitute a promise to do so.  It’s little more than bait, for those who still read such sources.

I’ve heard nothing but good things over the years about Georgios Samaras.  He is a player who flourishes on confidence, and support, and does so most often at the highest level.  In Europe he is Celtic’s out-ball, a player capable of bringing others into the game, turning defence into attack.  It is at this rarefied atmosphere that his goal-scoring has also been most effective.  Ironically his style is less effective in the SPFL, where Celtic spend far less time 80 yards from goal.

A considerable reason for the low return in the Champions League this season was that everyone knew how reliant we’d become on Georgios.  He was heavily marked; by the time the ball got to his feet, three opponents triangulated around him.

It’s no surprise he has offers from Spain, and no doubt elsewhere, to consider. If he leaves I hope his lasting memories will be cheers of support, not his harsher experiences.

Definition of poor IT planning: datacentres who host their Status page at their own datacentre. “We’re down, but you can’t read this, because we’re down.”

Great post!!! Thers criminality afoot there thats for sure!!!

  2. My only comment re Sammi – when even his manager uses the phrase “when he’s in the mood …..” as if that is ok then both player and manager are dimished. I genuinely wish Sammi well in his new club.

Again, unsurprisingly you’ve fudged the issue.

I didn’t say it was disgaceful what JF earns, I said it was disgraceful that you posted it on a public forum and you were using it as a means to attack her as a result of her standing up for the Living Wage proposal.

If you want a debate please stick to the points raised.

That is a good summing up of events so far and even if the SFA can escape challenge on technicalities or take refuge behind confidentiality, the very fact that supporters of all clubs, not just Celtic, who have shareholders, can use the AGM route to seek accountability of the SFA will surely make them more aware of their responsibilities to all clubs?

There is so much that needs to be done in terms of making that organisation more accountable and professional and anything that moves them out of their comfort zone into culture change is worth the effort for the good of our game.

You keep harping on about res 12 being clouded in secrecy, you don’t like that, you have made that perfectly clear.

Your undying support for the board is there for all to see.

It was the board who you don’t ever question, who asked for the secrecy surrounding Res 12.

How do you square that ?

As you have already stated that you know what is happening, why not enlighten those of us who don’t know what is happening.

  6. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS:

Please don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with what the huns did, I don’t condone it but I understand what they did and why they did it and why they to this day deny it ever happened.

Only by the grace of God were you not one of them, nor I.

    But I understand them.

What I don’t understand is when right is on our side we don’t, as a club, as a sporting affiliation, as a nation, go after those who have disgraced our nation, and by that I mean those who have facilitated corruption; and I mean corruption.

And yet it appears to me, rightly or wrongly, the blame for everything that is wrong in our game is RFC. I don’t see it that way.

    For evil to prosper….

What is it with me, well it’s my opinion, if you find me the most annoying person on the site then I would suggest you scroll on by my posts as I so with others on here, you say they may or may not be successful with what they have done, this is the diff. Between you and I, I said they wouldent be, lonnngggg before they met with Celtic, I made my stand and called it as I saw it, the wrong guys where at the helm, and until some one comes out and proves me wrong, all of your ( not just you) snide jibes as for me being IGNORANT, BLIND, ANNOYING, this resolution has gone no where and the more I high lite it, then maybe and only then will some thing be done, I’m not hiding here, there are some in here who are ignoring it hoping it goes away, today’s update was an embarrassment as far as I am concerned, if you think it was a move forward then fine, that’s your opinion, I didn’t .

Eh! Excuse me I wasn’t the ball carrier, ask them, they know what’s going on, go ahead ask, as you posted I back the board all the time and PL, scroll back on one of my posts and I explained why I was not happy with this and the board, .

  9. And if good men do look the other way rather than face evil down….

are those good men really good men, or are they just profiteers?

  10. Ian Black, in games in which he took the field, betted against his own team to be beaten….

  11. “wWhen Sammi’s in the mood…” you could have said the same for Jinky or even George Best (although of course we are talking different levels of attainment). When Jinky was in the mood he was untouchable, often he wasn’t, but no team could afford to leave him unmarked. In fact I think that Sammi tries hard (mostly).

There is a difference about Sammi this year. When he gets the ball at his feet he tries to turn and run at the opposition (usually with no result). Either he is playing to instructions (which is what I believe), or he is not listening to instructions, because what he does isn’t productive. If the latter, he would have been hauled over the coals, in the same way WGS did with Graveson. I suspect that NL is trying to ensure that Sammi always has 2 players on him, making space elsewhere.

Celtic’s problem in the SPL is that there is absolutely no space, as everyone defends in depth. Look how successful you can be in keeping out better teams if you don’t allow them any space (Rangers in 2006, Celtic against Barcelona). I think for his own sake he should move, but although it seems paradoxical to say this about Sammi, he is playing a team game for us in the SPL; I just don’t think that it’s the best use of our resource.

The living wage hardly got a mention when she went to the podium, in my opinion she lost the plot, and did nothing for the people she was there to represent, she got way to personal with some on the board, and it fell on deaf ears, as a speaker she is ok at times, but she blew that one.

  13. As per the five way agreement – how many titles have been stripped from the old Rangers history?

  14. If it were not for the five way agreement Spartans would have been playing in the seniors and Rangers would have been playing in the juniors with a wage bill of – let me pluck a circa figure from my head – 5 million pounds….

Ok that is your opinion and that’s fine.

Do you think that entitled you to post what you believe her salary to be on a public forum?

How do you know what she earns?

  16. TonyDonnelly67

Ignorance does not mean stupidity or lack of intelligence. It means not knowing. I am ignorant of much more that I do not know than I do know.

Given all that there is to know everyone is ignorant of something.

Your stance from the beginning has been based on what you think you know and you have been offered the opportunity to find out a bit more to either support your view or make you rethink it.

Being ignorant is not being stupid. Passing up the opportunity to be more informed might not be stupid either, but since offer has been made to avoid that conclusion it is mystifying why you pass up the chance.

  17. How many registered ‘Green Brigaders’ have now been arrested and charged post the Motherwell game of shame?

  18. In my opinion, i think Samaras will leave us in this transfer window.

He will probably want his future sorted out before the summer as he will be away to Brasil, Even though he can sign a pre-contract, that contract probably wouldnt start until after the World Cup and would be subject to a medical, which he would fail IF he picked up a bad injury over there.

There wont be much time for talks with clubs at that time either which kinda makes me believe he will get it done asap and hes quite right if he does.

I think it would be good for both the club and the player if he left at this time and certainly if we can get the kind of fee thats been mentioned.

Have we ever had a more frustrating player?!

Think i lost count of the times i felt he should never get to wear the jersey again yet he always somehow managed to make me love him again???!!!

I just feel now might be the right time.

    Please answer the question.

How do you know how much she earns?

  20. Celtic FC as bad as Millwall FC? What did Millwall ever do that was so bad? I can think of another quintessential club that shamed football ever so much more, way back then, not so way back then, and to this very day.

It’s still quoted to this day as the difference between a guaranteed instant success and a balde.

  22. Hamiltontim:

After the Motherwell game and all the abuse levelled against the Green Brigade on here… how many retractions and extended apologies have you read?

  23. The Honest Mistake:

That may be so, but what I stated is that I never once saw a single poster on here demand Celtic pay a categorical price for a striker.

All those who understood football wanted was a replacement for Hooper. Price was not in the equation.

Hey! She wants in the public domain, goes with the territory, oh and by the way, everyone knew, unless except you, so now you know, but I think you knew, your just doing a wee Ally McCoist stint for attention, oh and p.s. It’s not disgraceful, it’s a fact she earns big money.

Tony, with the greatest of respect, what she earns is incidental to the argument.

You might say that as what she earns is in the public domain,no harm was done. Fair point. But why was it in the public domain, and why was it deemed important to her argument at the time?

    It wasn’t.

But on the subject, unless I am very much mistaken, you posted a comment in a national paper, with a photo attached. I wouldn’t dream of posting it on here as it would serve no purpose,it is irrelevant to your entitlement to have and to state your opinion.
