Oh Charlie (swept aside) Green, you’ve got Celtic wrong!

Sevco owner, Charles Green, got himself a bit confused last night when talking about Celtic, saying, “Our main rivals, or our former main rivals, across the city, they have had three different companies in their lifespan.  In fact if you look at their corporate structure now it’s more complicated than Rangers”.

For the record……..

Celtic were formed in 1888.  The officeholders of the club accepted personal liability for all debts until the club became a limited company on 12 April 1897.  On that day registration number SC003487 was given to The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limited – a private limited company.

In 1994 Fergus McCann opened the club up to 10,000 supporters by making the club a public limited company, which then became known as Celtic PLC.  It is the same company, with the same registration number, SC003487.  On the same day the company became a PLC, Fergus, in his wisdom, registered a new company, with exactly the same name as the old company (The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limited), in order to prevent another party registering the name, which retains an historical association with Celtic.  The new company is wholly owned by Celtic PLC.

Celtic now have in the region of 29,000 shareholders.  They, alongside every shareholder in our 125 year history, have made sure that every debt was settled.  Go to Companies House web site, click ‘Find Company Information’, search ‘CelticPLC’, for 115 unbroken years of limited liability history.

Swept aside

Green’s problems, of course, are not that people don’t understand Celtic’s corporate structure, they are that last month he told a BBC TV camera that if Rangers were liquidated “the history, the tradition, everything that’s great about this club is swept aside”.  Even he must suspect that he is not the best guy to lead his new club forward.

On the alleged illegal registration of players issue, Green was more contrite: “HMRC has still to reach a decision or announce their decision. I understand the SPL has put a panel together to look at this issue and we will contest it every inch of the way.  The view of the club, the fans and indeed newcomers like myself is that those titles and those games were won fairly and belong to this (sic) club.  We will fight it to the finish.”

At last we can agree.  If Rangers won trophies fairly they must (and will) retain them.  Speaking to Sky News in March Sir David Murray could not have been clearer that no Rangers players had dual contracts while his board was in charge.  If this is the case, Rangers have no case to answer.

However, if the old Lumley-troubler’s memory of this issue has failed him, then matters will take a different course.  If Sevco inherit Rangers SFA membership, they will be looking at many years of penalties to compensate for their decade or more of illegal player registration.

Prima Facie Evidence CSC.

  6. Much, much better today, thought Vic was immense, but a glorious opportunity missed to collect a much needed clean sheet and register a morale boosting victory over one of Europe’s class teams. Playing with just 10 men for last 15 didn’t help. Even Zaluska on as an outfield player might have kept someone occupied?

Apart for the injuries, the only downside was again the poor showing from Bangura. Sorry, but he just isn’t CFC class. He has no pace, nothing in the air, no positional sense and no goal threat. Tony Watt has promise and raw enthusiasm which might well serve us better until a quality striker is signed. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough!

Upside for me was people noticing my new CQN badge. Thanks in particular to midfield maestro, and good luck volunteering at the Olympics.

Roll on Wednesday – a ‘Vic’tory and clean sheet order of the day!

  7. ….PFayr

didn’t even know that it won

    thanks for lettin me know

    great news !

    watched the first hour

    headed off to the game

got back in the car at 345 to catch last few words of radio commentary on the race…….funny affair altogether it seems….1mill out on the street watchin it but no comms clearly updating TV on the position of riders as it all unfolded…..and in the end, great tactics by winner Alexandr Vinokourov and his Khasakhstani team, fair play to them

    250km or something – unbelievable !

  9. Met Andy Cameron a few times back in the early 80’s, he was a friend of my dad(who was an old MC/Comedian back in the day), who told me he had a wee hand in Andys success but thats another story. Anyway every year my dad would take us to Blackpool where he would go to the singing competitions etc and always go to meet Andy on the pier. I found him to be a nice guy, and I would always make sure I wore the hoops when we went to see him, he used try and crack a few gags.

I think I remember him going against the bigots when judas signed for that now defunct team from govan.

When they start slaughtering diddy teams they will be back be rest assured. Their lunacy knows no bounds.

  11. The Obese Paul LeGuen lets slip the complete disconnect that they all suffer from – namely this quote from the BBC – ‘No one is denying that Rangers were badly mismanaged for 10 months.’

Does Murray actually hold these people’s souls?

Is there not one single journalist will take this man to task on his continual lies? His lying by omission is bad enough. But his bare-faced reconstruction of their ‘plight’ is lies.

    Conditional Membership…

The thing is a farce. With no humour. It is a unmitigated disaster. Another week tagged on to how many weeks tagged on in the constant hope that this team sorts its mess out. And they can’t. Can’t possibly. So the powers that be work on facilitation of that mess for ‘the greater good’.

    You cannot polish a turd.

    Yet still they try.

  13. Couple of questions…..

Does anyone know how many season books we have sold to date?

What happened to the Green Brigade today? One out all out?

Does any one really think Bangura can play? Seriously.

I’m sure he’s a lovely fella. He’s just not very funny. And I haven’t ready any comments about him being a bigot. Not in the conversation I’ve been having with voguepunter anyway.

  16. HenryClarson on

I like the confidence in Paul’s lead article which suggests that everything will work out fine in the end. But I still find it hard to square the desperation of the SFA and SPL to keep the PseudoHuns going at almost any cost with the idea that the SPL inquiry into the “sneaky pay” will finish them off while Campbell Ogilvie looks on benignly.

There should already no SFA member club operating out of Ibrox; yet, right now, there are TWO clubs with SFA membership – Old Huns and Sevco.

Perhaps in a month or so there will be enough Huns clubs to form their own breakaway league with a special SKy TV channel all to themselves?

  17. Evening gents just back in from Mass where I prayed for yer sorry souls :-)

My da worked with Andy Cameron many years ago on the buses. They remained pals and I vaguely remember him being in the house as a youngster.

Lovely guy but no’ very funny :-)

They are trying to polish a turd that is swirling around the lavvy. The big BDO final suck isny far away.

Vogue, I was not suggesting that you did.

I was simply giving one man’s judgement on a man who loves Rangers.

They are not ALL bigots, ..though, God help them, most of them are.

  21. We have played two games so far in scotland this pre season, and the cheats with the whistles haven’t changed one iota.

Murray and Colum showed us what we are in for this seaso, we will be kicked off the park with total impunity..

Nothing changes, sort them out PL, it’s within your powers……..

    re HJK

    to be honest

not seen that much of them (maybe half a game at most)

but from what i’ve seen, probably not far wrong in

sayin they are mibbe as good as rfcia prior to their recent walk-aways

Demba Savage is their fast left winger, we’ll need 2 on him

goalie is their captain, he got sent off today

CB also got sent off, bit of a hammer-thrower

basically, a big team, hardworking but probably not as good as Inter (who were possibly only at 75-80%) today

we have a chance against them but we’ll need to come out of the traps flyin and ensure we don’t give away silly possession

a 2-0 lead will probably be good enough for us

a 2-1 and it will be touch and go on

    their plastic pitch

they have a few big guys but nothin we can’t handle

  23. Re: Andy Cameron

Didn’t Robbie Coltrane go up to him once, quite a few years ago now, at a function and say (and I’m paraphrasing here): “Ah you must be the wee establishment comedian!” Apparently Cameron went mental, but have you seen the size of Coltrane?!

And didn’t Cameron do the MC duties at the last Celtic Charity Fund bash?! I do believe he’s done a few!
