Old Tarts bring Celtic into disrepute on radio and newspapers

241

I heard a Daily Record reporter on commercial radio earlier this week suggest Celtic should “Do the right thing” and pay Rangers, in advance, for tickets for the game at Ibrox on 25 March.  I understand that last night another reporter from the same paper told Radio Scotland listeners that, despite today’s Record publishing a robust contradiction from Celtic, that he had evidence Peter Lawwell reneged on a verbal agreement to pay Rangers in advance.

Evidence of a verbal agreement?  Perhaps Lord Leveson would be interested in that one.

To be fair to everyone, any old tart can insist Celtic “do the right thing”, even if it’s the wrong thing, the comments section of Celtic Quick News regularly features such crazy notions, but it is alarming that the influence of a pernicious few spreads across such a huge profile of the Scottish media.

Peter Lawwell’s letter published on the club site was unequivocal.  Celtic did not renege on an agreement with Rangers, they are not responsible in any way for Rangers staff losing their jobs, indeed, they enjoy a functional working relationship with the Administrators of Rangers.

The fact that Celtic were able to inform fans in advance that today’s Daily Record would publish Lawwell’s letter “In a prominent position” in today’s newspaper suggests the Record acknowledged the legal consequences of failing to do so.  Despite this, no correction has been issued and the assertion that Celtic have reneged on a deal continues to be made.

The BBC, who have editorial standards well beyond those found in the red top press, are now embroiled in this mess.

While many Scottish reporters are busy uncovering genuine evidence of the biggest stories in the history of Scottish football, others cannot break the habits of recent decades.

If Celtic have legal recourse they must act but you have a role too.  You empower the media, if it was not for your (plural) custom they would be unable to lie about Celtic.

Decades of malpractice in Scottish football is coming to an end, this is our chance to redraw the map and ensure Celtic have, at last, a level playing field.

Do your part.

  4. An administrator is appointed to rescue a company and they have to work in the best interests of all creditors. This is usually achieved by way of a CVA being agreed by 75% of creditors. To my knowledge this hasn’t been done yet, nor has there been anything reported that this is likely to happen soon.

If they can’t get this agreed, the only way forward is liquidation and this has to happen as soon as possible so that any assets left in the company are not further depleted. Working capital will class as an asset and if there is no other option other than liquidation, an administrator cannot simply allow the money to run out before liquidation.

If the administrator knows or should know that liquidation is the only option, it has to happen very quickly. A delay which causes available funds to be depleted will constitute an offence, either fraudulent trading or wrongful trading. If proved, the administrator can be asked to contribute to the realised assets for creditors.

This is the important point. HMRC don’t really care where their money comes from, they just want paid what is due. Could they be playing a long game here? It’s taken so long for them to get their money, another year or so won’t make much difference so could they have acquiesced to Duff and Phelps being appointed administrators hoping that if they give them enough rope, they could hang themselves?

Might be a bit far fetched, but Duff and Phelps are quite a large organisation and could make quite a substantial contribution to assets is any wrong doing was proved. HMRC could just sit it out and wait until liquidation and then send in investigators to see if Duff and Phelps did everything in their power to get as much for all creditors. If not, they could sue them for some contribution.

Like I say, it might not be likely but just one scenario I have thought off.

Just read the RTC about the rangers players having two contracts. The hole just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

What about that Stewart Regan Chappie? seriously the Scottish fitba authorities are sounding a bit like Craig Whyte in the early days, when he was just being rumbled by the huns, still brazaen enough to live in denial.

It might seem to a thick ol paddy like myself, that an EBT might be tax avoidance, but hiding a second contract under a desk might be tax evasion. Didn’t Ken Dodd go to Jail for that?

Maybe it’s time the Diddymen went as well.

This was Jabba indulging yet again in the same tired old OSABATO garbage.

rankers are exposed as cheats and liars, so the laptop loyal have to try to even things up in any way they can no matter how trivial, by promoting a non story aimed at portraying a Celtic director as being dishonest.

I don’t buy the Record and never will. However what concerns me is I do pay my TV licence and this clown Traynor is never off the BBC peddling his agenda which usually involves shameless promotion of his newspaper and insidiously snide anti Celtic propaganda.

I have some sympathy with the camp who advocate boycotting of such radio programmes but what sticks in my craw is the fact that I am helping to pay for them and I feel therefore that myself and fellow Tims should be able to do something more than just not listening.

I have made complaints in the past but the BBC’s complaints procedure is so labyrinthine and opaque that individual protests are bogged down quickly and end up going nowhere.

    Concerted action is required.

    Any suggestions?

  8. Would love Mr Lawwell to issue a writ on Traynor for slander on last night’s Sportsound broadcast. I am 100% sure Lawwell would never have issued that letter on the CFC website if there was even a hint that any documentary evidence existed. Traynor most definitely seemed to suggest there was.

He is such a hurting Airdrie fan; an obnoxious specimen. The time is surely now to ban the DR – and Traynor – from Celtic Park until a full apology is made.

I don’t call football phone-ins routinely but on the odd occassion I do -I nearly always get on – I suspect they have quotas for folk from far flung areas like Aberdeen – or it helps give the illusion that the stations are reaching the whole of Scotland.

I’m on tomorrow night to Traynor. I’m asking his opinion of media coverage of Hun activities & Celtic ‘paranoia’ over the years… Hately and Jackson are in for special traetment…

Campbell Ogilvie is the first vice-president of the Scottish Football Association and the managing director of Scottish Premier League football club Heart of Midlothian.

In 1978, Ogilvie was hired as general secretary at the Rangers F.C. and later became a director of that club, but relinquished his executive duties at Ibrox Stadium in September 2005, following a boardroom re-shuffle.[1]

Ogilvie joined Heart of Midlothian in November 2005 to undertake similar duties under the title “Operations Director”. Roman Romanov, the club’s chairman and son of majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov, stated: “I am very happy that Campbell has agreed to join us as it is clear he shares our ambition and belief.” he added “We can learn much from his professional experience.” Ogilvie was later promoted to managing director on 14 March 2008. He is widely regarded by fans groups and local media as the man who could save Hearts from further demise due to the reputation he has earned and the respect he commands within Scottish Football.[citation needed] He is also the only Scot on the Hearts Board.

In June 2003, Ogilvie became the treasurer, now second vice-president, of the Scottish Football Association (SFA).[2] On 1 June 2007, Ogilvie became first vice-president of the SFA, with Alan McRae taking his place as second

  26. It doesn’t matter whether Ogilvie was aware of EBTs or not, For the time he was a director of Rangers (then not in administration) he had responsibility for the company.

In fact it’s that old chestnut: either he knew and therefore agreed or he didn’t know and so was negligent.

It is inconceivable that a man so tied up in the affairs of a sinking club can continue as President of the SFA. He must resign now.

  27. I would expect Ogilvie to say that he knew about the EBTs but that he was of the opinion that they were above board. I don’t expect it to be a resigning issue just yet.
