Old Tarts bring Celtic into disrepute on radio and newspapers

241

I heard a Daily Record reporter on commercial radio earlier this week suggest Celtic should “Do the right thing” and pay Rangers, in advance, for tickets for the game at Ibrox on 25 March.  I understand that last night another reporter from the same paper told Radio Scotland listeners that, despite today’s Record publishing a robust contradiction from Celtic, that he had evidence Peter Lawwell reneged on a verbal agreement to pay Rangers in advance.

Evidence of a verbal agreement?  Perhaps Lord Leveson would be interested in that one.

To be fair to everyone, any old tart can insist Celtic “do the right thing”, even if it’s the wrong thing, the comments section of Celtic Quick News regularly features such crazy notions, but it is alarming that the influence of a pernicious few spreads across such a huge profile of the Scottish media.

Peter Lawwell’s letter published on the club site was unequivocal.  Celtic did not renege on an agreement with Rangers, they are not responsible in any way for Rangers staff losing their jobs, indeed, they enjoy a functional working relationship with the Administrators of Rangers.

The fact that Celtic were able to inform fans in advance that today’s Daily Record would publish Lawwell’s letter “In a prominent position” in today’s newspaper suggests the Record acknowledged the legal consequences of failing to do so.  Despite this, no correction has been issued and the assertion that Celtic have reneged on a deal continues to be made.

The BBC, who have editorial standards well beyond those found in the red top press, are now embroiled in this mess.

While many Scottish reporters are busy uncovering genuine evidence of the biggest stories in the history of Scottish football, others cannot break the habits of recent decades.

If Celtic have legal recourse they must act but you have a role too.  You empower the media, if it was not for your (plural) custom they would be unable to lie about Celtic.

Decades of malpractice in Scottish football is coming to an end, this is our chance to redraw the map and ensure Celtic have, at last, a level playing field.

Do your part.

I think that 1995 title should go to Hibs.

They lost 2 more points than Motherwell to Rangers, so that would move them from one point behind to one point ahead.

  4. Call me paraanoid if you like…… Twice in the last 15 minutes Radio Scotland has reported on this morning’s SFA announcement. Neither report incluuded any reference to this bit:

“We (the SFA) are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

It just shows the power that rangers and sir minty in particular, had over Scottish football over the the years

if Celtic complained about anything minty would have his lackies attack

paranoid , chips on shoulder, are you trying to say that the ref was biased towards rangers , all the crap that we have had to put up with

then the lackies see that the ship is sinking and sir minty will not be in any position to help them, they start to stick the slipper in

the whole lot of them follow mintys lead , when he was happy with CW , they were happy with him, when he decided the time had come to turn on him he let the dogs out

I really find it difficult to listen to these peepil on phone in shows, they have the cheek to sit and congratulate one and other about breaking stories regarding the hun when the real story is their erses must be sore sitting on all the stories that they should have told

noticed a trend among them and that is they never want to revisit anything that they have got completely wrong in the past and are quite aggressive when anybody else brings it up

I hope that at the end of this mess we will have transparency in the game but also transparancy in the press, will they realise that not reporting the facts over the years they have done more damage to the cloven hoofs

  8. Whatever happens today Re: Rangers redundancies – i hope everyone remembers the manner in which Ally McCoist and Walter Smith conducted themselves on and around 20 May 2008.

The seige mentality will kick in again tomorrow at Ibrox, well for 90 minutes anyway. We’ll get the full repertoire, with the ‘we dont do walking away’ brigade displaying a defiant love for their club. Its all fine and well to ‘love’ your club and stand by it to the hilt, especially in its darkest hour.

The three main things I love my club for are its ethos, its worldwide reputation (brilliantly promoted by its fans) and Celtic being the first non-Latin team to win the European cup.

I would suggest that the three biggest headlines connected to RFC in their entire history are all negative.

    1. Being forced to end a 100 year open sectarian policy in 1989.

    2. The Manchester riots 2008.

    3. Worst of all, the latest debacle, call it what you will, cheating, fraud etc.

….and there’s plenty more, like barca 72 etc.

These three stories have made headlines worldwide from Beijing to Buenes Aries,

How can you ‘love’ and be proud of a club with that reputation?

    Afternoon fholks…

    I remember the Centenary season,

Paul McStay, has any footballer played at such a high consistent level for a whole season.

If anybody doubted Paul’s talent then that season surely proved just how good a footballer Paul was.

I remember celebrating the double as a 19yr old not knowing i would be nearly 30yrs old before we would win the league again.

When we are rightfully crowned with the titles they stole during the 90’s, will it make up for all the parties i missed in my twenties??…Probably not.

Does that mean i wont enjoy them??

Not in the slightest, i’ll enjoy them even more knowing how much ser huns are hurting.

    Regarding ogilvie/sfa…

Now is the time for a live press conference with Regan and ogilvie.

ogilvie has to be asked live on camera if he knows about 2nd contracts at ibrokes.

I f he admits the truth….then he resigns.

If he says no…then we wait till the evidence is released and ogilvie has then to face the music….and it wont be flute music.

    LET THE PEOPLE SING

Surely E.S.P.N. will not be so stupid as to have Hateley on to-morrow, game!

P.S. When we are on the trail of assistants to their folly – Who was the friendly Chartred Accountant who inflated the value of Ibrox by £10m. in their Annual Accounts at the start of this century (and beyond) thus keeping them out of Administration all those years ago?

  16. This just gets better and better.

  17. Since he moved to RealRadio, I have not heard DJ.

Does he still have his ‘Certainometer’?

Remember way back in the day when a deal was imminent, soon, certain and when it would all be settled by Christmas, New Year, end of January?

It shows just how much things have changed that Ragers fans must long for those days to live over again.

Since it became effective on 1 March will be very interesting to see the Strathclyde Police Match Commander’s tactics. Surely they cannot adopt the old I did not hear approach again.

But Eddie Smith had an anti Celtic agenda because we humiliated him and his fellow referees over their ‘strike’.

He has no similar grievance against the huns.

  23. Is it possible for Wim Jansen’s team and a certain Henrik Larsson to appear in an even better light than they already did? We know now that their achievement was even greater than we thought, that they managed to end the dominance of a systematically financially doped, i.e. cheating, team; that they managed to out-box an opponent pumped up on financial steroids to several weights above his true strength and brandishing a horseshoe in his glove that the referee had willfully ignored. Celtic did it against all odds. They did it by playing the game honestly, skillfully, beautifully.

Yes no matter how ridiculous they looked or sounded they would circle the wagons to defend minty.

The best for me was their defence of the dodgy vicar mc curry.

Seemingly he would’nt cheat as he was a man of god.

Meanwhile the dodgy vicar is giving his blessing to a teenager from his parish behind his wifes back.

If, as has been suggested many times, the actions of Der Hun run all the way to the top, and everything will be done to protect them, the only way now for them to even attempt to save their scrawny necks and tainted baubles is to liquidate now and hope that process hampers the investigation enough for it to be forgotten.

I think the final Glasgow Derby has already been played.
