Olivier is only explaining the facts

348

There’s a good half dozen players I would expect to be agitating for a move than Olivier Ntcham.  His interview in L’Equipe, where he regrets he did not move to Porto last summer and explains how he would blossom at Marseille, and generally, how he is too good for the other teams in Scotland.

The latter assertion may solicit some sympathy, although his timing is off.  We are days away from Champions League qualification and need those who are fit and experience to have their head on the job.

But this is the modern footballer.  They are not here because their Irish grannie told them tales about Charlie Tully.  Celtic provides lots of glory and money, but there are bigger paydays and all but the very few will chase the money, or, if we are being generous, test themselves in a tougher environment.

That’s football, Olivier is only explaining the facts.

  2. Jeez I really hope the links to Smith and (especially) Sawyers are not true.

Sawyers is an attacking midfielder but only has 6 goals in 127 games for Brentford. Surely there are younger better players available on the continent for similar money. Hopefully the Equadorian kid (Cifuentes) picks us over Man City and possibly Turnbull at Christmas. Those 2 on top of Connell would be good enough for me to make up for Ntcham leaving.

Really happy with the signings so far……and some of the unsuccessful attempts (Turnbull & Harper)……would give this one a skip though!!

    Any weekend updates from Catman/Lennybhoy?

Don’t know much about the rumoured new Bhoys, have read good things about Sawyers and his passing ability. Time will tell – fee seems low but I gather he is down to the last year on his contract.

Howiva a canny find anywhere were he brought up the educational system in Scotland in his interview. Seems to be the chat of the last 24 hours. Can someone point me towards Ollie’s comments of faith based education?

  14. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Sawyers is a very decent player plying his trade in a far better league than the SPL.

He is not a box-to-box midfielder nor a crunching tackler – he directs the flow and tempo of play from midfield largely through his passing ability. A bit more like Tom Rogic/Calum McGregor – certainly not a Christie, Armstrong or Brown.

Would he be a guaranteed success at Celtic? Do Celtic need such a ‘playmaker’? – not got a clue tbh – but he isn’t crap.

Incidentally, Barry Bannon is a very decent player also – but maybe just a wee bit too old for us?

  15. FFS! The Holy Cross bhoys must have enjoyed schooling (when not dogging it)…check the date.

  16. OK. I’d like to start off the bidding for Morelos.

Far from starting the bids at 20 I think it should start at 50, no make that 80…. och, let’s throw caution to the wind and make it a round quid.

Och, what am I saying, you could buy the whole club for that.

Hi. Holy cross always had strong football teams.

In 1973, the year after I left, holy cross won both the senior shield and the intermediate shield in the same season.

I believe this is a unique achievement in schools football in this country.

  18. Westcraigs

Holy Cross had great teams back then. We must been there around the same time, as I left in 72. Memory like a sieve though, can only remember one guy by name as I was an outlier from Busby.

  19. I too don’t get CQN updating unless I log in. What would cause such a random change to the site? Is it to encourage more folk to log in rather than lurk? HH from ootside Glasgow Dental Hospital (As a lurker, it’s Mrs Baldie that’s the one logged in there today).

  20. A few thoughts from the late Paul McConville which places Scottish Catholic schools in historical context.

It does not answer the question of promoted posts unfairness but it does address all the more usual reasons for people opposing the existence of such schools.

From experience, most people that I meet who want “separate” schooling to end, have only one form of separation -ending in mind, that is, an end to RC schools.

Thanks for that.IMO, EVERYONE on here should read it and, if shareholders, act upon it. If not ( shareholders) , then inform as many as possible. This Resolution is exceptionally important.

  22. Jobo- what’s the weather like at the Dental Hospital?

I remember being on a student march, protesting against something or other, when we passed the Dental Hospital.

The chant as we approached had been “Heath Out!” as he was the PM at the time but some wag with a microphone changed it to “Teeth Out” as we passed by.

  23. Just for clarification, Mrs B is logged in for her appointment, Im the one logged into CQN…

Auldhead must try and convince the three largest shareholders to vote for Celtics interest not their own interests, If aulheid can convince those three to vote for the resolution then it will be past.
