When appointing a manager I always want a student of the game. Someone who has got there on merit, not because of who he is, or that he will bring some temporary boost to the troops.
Contrast John Barnes with some Aussie-Greek who had been re-writing record books across the Pacific region. You don’t want the candidate qualified by fame alone.
Occasionally, Scottish clubs looked to Scandinavia for their students. Celtic had Ronny, Aberdeen went back for Jimmy Thelin decades after their first venture north. German coaches are strutting their stuff across the Continent and Motherwell found their current boss there. He’s done very well, albeit with a small sample size.
In the name of all that is sacred, let Newco appoint Steven Gerrard. His previous term there was judged successful having won one trophy in nine. That came in a season which saw Celtic capitulate on all fronts.
St Johnstone won both cups, leaving Newco the only team with enough of a squad to fill the gap at the top of the table.
History will show that Celtic followed COVID test, trace and isolation rules. Others were less observant. Gerrard won by default and would have been sacked were it not for the pandemic intervention.
He would be a short-term sugar rush to take the pressure off decision makers who cannot handle the heat off the Glasgow kitchen. Go for it.

Anyone tell me what the desired end result is re the Celtic collective is?
I still haven’t a clue….
Is it to get DD to sell his shares to the highest bidder?
Is it to get DD to bring in better board members?
Is it to get DD to rip up the current business plan and strategy?
Do any of the Collective think we could end up like Man Utd if its option 1?
Will they be happy to tell their grandkids that they chased away Desmond, Lawwell, Keane and Traynor to bring in the Glazers?
A hedge fund company could take hundreds of millions out of Celtic if they had a chance.
Not saying Im right but it worries me…..and I honestly believe there are 10s of thousands like me.

What was it, specifically , that Celtic managed poorly?
What did the Huns do so well that they turned a team that was a derby away from Gerard getting the sack if you believe what you see on the internet today, to a team that went unbeaten in the league?
And we do so badly that we went from a team that had won all their games bar 2 at this stage of the season to losing the league by a mile
If it was their COVID protocols vs ours I’m not sure winning the league would have been worth it
And Im pretty sure anyone working in the care sector at the time would have agreed

……….
What were Huns fans supposed to do?
Form a fans collective so that the board could lie thur ersies aff to them and rip the piss oot thum?
Or get a manager with a chinese whispering violin so that the daft Huns will fall for his wider than than the clyde guff.
Like the daft Tims have fallen for the Rodgers Jekyll & Hyde circus on and off since 2016 when he was recruited to make daft Tims run oot and buy £49 Sevco ARE Rangers tickets to confirm Celtic fans agreement with the biggest bluff ever pulled on them?
The board are supposed to be scared of the fans, not the other way round.
Maybe the daft, glaikit, gullible, Huns will throw their board full of “Patricks” and “Micks” and “Kevins” oot the windae?
And show the docile dithering dim Tims how it should be done?
Imho.

I say that without any true knowledge or understanding of our protocols and management of the situation and theirs. It was the perceived wisdom at the time – that they broke COVID quarantine, got away with it, had far laxer rules, and that gave them an advantage, and that was part of the reason for them doing so well while we started well but collapsed. Not so much an excuse as a valid reason
But it was guess work at the time and guess work now.
Don’t want to revisit the covid season but to say that not one of the favourites won their leagues in the top 15 in Europe as far as I can recall.
However, the decision to keep Christie, Ajer, Ntcham and Odsonne when they felt they had done their bit and wanted (and easily could have a got) their life changing move was wrong.
Big Fraser not coming back was also massive.
NFLs isolation and his maybe ‘too much time to think’ never helped.
But Celtic teams need the fans and that year with all of the above and no fans and bulked up Sevco players and the newhuns not being tested properly alongside the most outrageous refereeing (other than the Tony Mowbray season) i have ever seen, then that’s why we lost the league.
There is only one manager I hope the newhuns don’t get and it’s not SlippyG.
Anyway….I can exclusively tell you…..it definitely won’t be SG…..and that’s 100pc.
Seen someone earlier saying we paid £15m for Ajeti, Barkas and Turnbell…
No we didn’t.
David Turnbell was a good player for Celtic and worth the money we spent on him.
Please, don’t make things up…..it’s an embarrassment to the site and the larger support.

Seriously…..can anyone answer this, and I’m honestly not being argumentative but …
What is the Collectives end game here with the protests?
Is it to see us under new ownership?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54489133
The beginning of the end of the COVID Season
25 from 27 points up to that game, 4 first teamers isolating after being away in international duty.
6 from 15 points after
Rangers inflicted the first Old Firm derby blow in a historic Scottish Premiership campaign – and moved four points clear at the top – with a dominant 2-0 win at Celtic Park.
In the first Glasgow derby without fans, Steven Gerrard’s side took an early lead when Connor Goldson headed in James Tavernier’s free-kick.
And the Rangers centre-back then also tapped in after the break to finish off a lacklustre and unfamiliar Celtic side shorn of four players due to Covid-19 protocols.
The win laid down a marker in a significant season, as the Ibrox side attempt to prevent their city rivals from winning an unprecedented 10th consecutive title.
Neil Lennon’s team do still have a game in hand and were without star striker Odsonne Edouard and key midfielder Ryan Christie, but were nonetheless outclassed again in the unique fan-less derby.
Seriously…..can anyone answer this, and I’m honestly not being argumentative but …
What is the Collectives end game here with the protests?
Is it to see us under new ownership?

at a very minimum there should be some sort of correlation between the money the plc takes in from tickets, merchandise etc and the money we spend on the quality of the squad in terms of what our footballing ambitions are.
if the plc decide that their only footballing ambition is to just about win the league, but anything in europe is a bonus, then come out and say that.
but then they need to stop charging 600-odd quid for season tickets, 46.50 for EL tickets and the best part of 40 quid for home league games against teams with a fraction of our income.
but we know they wont do that.
we are the worst example of rampant PLCism – a board raking in fortunes to show DD a huge cash reserve at the end of the year, so the CEO gets another 100 grand pay rise while the footballing side (which should be the purpose of our existence) gets ravaged.
its like Red Bull – a company that rakes in countless millions even though its apparent core product tastes like shit.
but at least they fund a good F1 team.
we have become a merchandising PLC that has an average football club as its public face.
LADTH….thanks for the answer

I seem to remember Peter Lawwell took the Rap for the Dubai debacle and resigned as Chief Executive, Even though he wasn’t there himself. In terms of the players and coaches it is unlikely he had any role in briefing them on Covid precautions. It would not be acceptable for the Chief Executive to speak to Boli and the other players.
He took the blame and protected others below him. It might have suited him to resign at that time after his House had been the victim of Arson and his family placed in harms way by unknown assailants.

The Covid was a scam.
Rangers and their fans saw through the scam.
Celtic said zero about C19.
Celtic fans on blogs demanded the banning of other Celtic Fans, who tried to tip off their fellow Celts about the deception being carried out on them, by the Snp Witches Coven, who’d been paid up front to assist with the Global depopulation program through the distribution of fake mRNA Vaccines, Example krankie has been “granted” a £500.000 yearly pension bet she did for her services.

Good Morning Celts – Grand Day To Be A Tim
BigBhoy @ 12:26 am, BTB, Celtic40me et al…
It is not a subject I’m comfortable discussing.
However Celtic PLC while demanding ST money from supporters, and were hoarding money – telling us they had a fund for just such occurrences – consistently telling us they were the best run organisation in the business, so don’t get to play the victim here.
I get that Peter Lawwell had no specialist knowledge to impart on COVID, however Lenny who was obviously on the front line said he spoke to the CEO about operations “most days”.
We don’t have a COO who could have stepped up and put special plans and protocols in place after taking advice from specialists or even employing specialists directly.
With no COO it was on the Board and Executive to ensure some sort of Executive function or Committee was formed to ensure not only compliance but protocols above and beyond that were in place and properly adhered to.
A couple of things from Lenny that suggest that Celtic weren’t the golden boys of compliance some suggest and that Lenny did not have the necessary acumen to lead Celtic’s COVID response.
Lenny on the Dubai trip…
”Lennon said the club was led to believe they only had to be 2m apart on their chartered flight, but after consultation with the health authorities following the first positive test, were informed anyone sitting within two rows of seats of the positive case must isolate.”
Who “led them to believe”?, why not do the consultation before the positive test and get the protocols right.
Or better still, don’t take the risk of travelling to Dubai.
”Celtic manager Neil Lennon says the Scottish government’s decision to tell 13 of their players to self-isolate after their trip to Dubai was motivated by politics and not public health.
Lennon and 13 players missed two games after a positive Covid-19 test and now a further player has tested positive…
…”We’ve come back and been absolutely decimated by these rules,” Lennon said.
“I’m not convinced they’re a public health issue. [It] seems political in my opinion.
“There seems to be some sort of agenda being driven here. I am not getting into a fight with the government but I will just leave it out there.”
…”Protocols at different clubs are inconsistent. As soon as Celtic are deemed to do something wrong, bang, you’re all wanting blood, it’s absolutely scandalous. The fallout from this has been way too much…
…Upon Celtic’s return, Scotland’s first minister Nicola Sturgeon urged the club to reflect seriously on their Dubai trip and questioned whether protocols had been followed as photos emerged of players and staff appearing to breach social distancing rules.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell last week apologised to supporters and said the trip was a “mistake”, but Lennon says the apology should have come from him.
“My apology is to the fans because 13 players and three staff had to isolate for 10 days, which is ludicrous,”
“I’m not apologising for anything else. I’m not apologising for going out there and training for a week. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing. We did everything we possibly could to avoid the damage.
“We did not abuse any privilege, we did the right things. We were absolutely totally professional. We had a little drink in the afternoon on a day off, completely allowed, no law breaking – yet we come back to this barrage of absolute hypocrisy.”
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55708298
Lenny later admitted at the time of the Bolingoli-Mbombo affair, when the player was being suspended, at least two other players flouted the lockdown…
”Looking back, it was really difficult for them. They missed their families. There were no restaurants and no social interaction with people and they broke the rules. I get it.”
To me Lenny should not have been put in the position of leading the Club’s COVID response, he had neither the right skillset nor the right attitude.
26 April 2023
“Two further Celtic players in addition to Boli Bolingoli broke Covid-19 travel rules in the failed 10-in-a-row season, says former manager Neil Lennon.
Bolingoli did not quarantine following an unsanctioned trip to Spain in August 2020 and then played against Kilmarnock, with Celtic punished by having their following two league games postponed.
Lennon, Celtic’s manager at the time, has now claimed two unnamed players also flouted the lockdown restrictions.
“We had the Bolingoli incident at the start of that season,” Lennon told PLZ Soccer. “We’re saying don’t leave Glasgow and he gets on a flight to Spain for a day…
…”Then the story develops, develops, develops and we said, ‘You weren’t supposed to leave Glasgow, what did you do?’…
…”I then had a meeting with the players [and asked] ‘Did anyone else leave Glasgow?’ No.
“Later on I get two phone calls from players – I’m not going to say who – saying, ‘Gaffer, I was in Amsterdam’ and ‘I was in Manchester.’ You’re like, ‘Guys, come on…’
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/ckrk9m3rv04o
Celtic playing the hard done by victim in this regard won’t wash.
They were by far the best resourced footballing organisation in Scotland, they claim to have the best Executives, we know that they were well compensated.
They had facilities at Celtic Park, Lennoxtown and Barrowfield that could have been adapted for playing staff and coaches to be in a safe and supported environment with specialist staff on hand to advise and assist.
In actuality the response was woefully poor and no amount of whataboutery and R2ngers didn’t win that league nonsense will change it.
Hail Hail
Laxalt
I’m not sure if someone has already tried to answer your questions but I will try and give my view.
BTW I have no dog in the fight and am not part of the collective or any group that is but using my eyes and applying a little common sense here you go.
The collective sent an open letter to club with seven questions they felt were important and required and answer or clarification – have you read the content of that letter? I think if you do you will understand their concerns and what, broadly, the objectives are.
Your other points about alternatives to current regime is a little disingenuous. It’s like saying who would you ask to dinner Angela Rippon or Myra Hindley?
I think it is highly unlikely there are any Celtic people that would like a hedge fund or Saudi prince or some loons like the Glazers running our club however there is a massive area of grey between that and the current owners/exec.
Specifically we have non execs that have on the face of it seem to have little input and who have stay in situ for far longer than is normal for people holding that position. For good governance purposes have we looked to refresh those positions to bring in new faces to add new and fresh ideas to the club and to seek to maintain the independence that is a vital in a non exec role. This in my view is a must.
DD holds a very significant share of our club and appears to wield that power extensively from a non exec position. DD appears to be ultra cautious and demands that our ambitions be at best modest and at worst non existent. Do I want him replaced by a sir minty type? Clearly NO however is there something in between? DD has such a large shareholding that it’s unlikely someone will come along and buy him out assuming he would sell however is there a world where a significant part of that shareholding could be sold, loosening his grip on control and allowing room for new ideas and energy?
Our employed executives seem at best limited in terms of skills and stature. The CEO in particular may be very competent legally but seriously is this the best that we can do? We are paying absolutely top level salary to a bang average CEO who struggles to communicate with his own supporters never mind the outside world. Not looking for Alan Sugar but surely there is people out there better suited to being CEO of Celtic – people of skill, ambition and vision that carry the room, the business and the staff forward. We can do better but can’t seem to be bothered…….
For years we have been told we want to be world class in everything we do and we are miles away from that and in the past six months or so have gotten further away from it in a football sense. In fact is it possible to find an area of the football club that could be considered world class? I doubt very much unless you add merchandising us to death. We have failed in that objective and failed badly. “We will reinvest every penny back into the team” – we have failed in that objective so spectacularly that we have money sitting that now cannot be spent on footballers? We have failed on that objective too or was that just a wee white lie?
People regularly put up the “careful what you wish for” or “look what happened to them” argument to support the current board etc. as if they are the only two options – like its status quo or death and it’s such a lazy argument as if there is nothing in between. There is miles of in between if we can be bothered looking. If not we are likely to be stuck where we are now – not fulfilling our potential, winning regularly at home but failing in Europe. If that’s your level of ambition fair enough but there lots of people that believe we are capable of more.
